I‘m not sure why I didn‘t finish this the first time I had it out from the library. Probably my usual too many books and not paying attention to due dates! Anyway, I‘m glad I finally did. Sad story, written well.

Texas in the blue (read) column. Green means TBR. Red means I‘m still looking for a book. Gold means I have my own copy of the book and will try to read those first. #50states #mysteries

This year I read seven books for my slow roll of progress on #50states of mystery, and I have more of them as potential reads next year. This atmospheric and bittersweet coming-of-age story/mystery is told in dual timelines and set in a small town in Mississippi.

Day 4 of #12booksof2020 and my favorite book from April.

Andrew65 Thanks for this one, I need to continue my journey of the states. 2y

This was an enjoyable read. The mystery is not too involved but not super simple, and there are some discussion of more serious issues such as shady dealings over land rights and families wrestling with addiction. But also a headstrong MC pursuing an amateur murder investigation, hints of romance, and lots of food.

Blue = read
Green = TBR
Gold = in progress
Red = to be identified

Susanita One of the characters is a bit OTT but the rest are okay. 2y

A mashup of Bourne Identity and Raiders of the Lost Ark with a sprinkling of Da Vinci Code, layered over a murder mystery. In a quiet little town in Connecticut. Interesting story. #50states #mystery

Blue means read
Green means TBR
Gold means in progress
Red means still looking

This was a fun cozy mystery that includes just about everything that annoys me about cozies, but it‘s a clever story with a likable main character. Also, the rest of the series has delightful punny titles. Don‘t read while hungry!

I found an app with a savable map, so I can have a more accurate picture, since I always managed to make mistakes on the website-based maps.

Blue = read
Green = TBR
Gold = reading
Red = still looking

Because I don‘t have enough books to read in June, I put this on hold at a neighboring county‘s library that‘s starting curbside service next week. This is a #blameitonlitsy but I don‘t remember who suggested it. Thanks also to @umbrellagirl for the Connecticut recommendation! #50states #mystery #paradise #boundtogetherjune

Susanita @umbrellagirl I haven‘t found a mystery to read from the pink states. 3y
Susanita @umbrellagirl That looks interesting! Which pink state is the setting? 3y
umbrellagirl @Susanita it‘s Connecticut. It‘s set in Washington CT but they changed the name to Lincoln. 3y

I‘ve finished a couple more #50states #mysteries lately. Tagged book is an interesting story of two men, one black and one white, who were briefly friends as children but whose lives took different turns as they got older when one was accused of murder but never convicted. It‘s a very small town in Mississippi, and you can feel the bugs in the woods and the tension in the air thanks to the author‘s lyrical but not flowery writing. More ⬇️

Susanita I also accomplished Wyoming with 3y
Andrew65 Well done. What are the different colours for? 3y
Susanita @Andrew65 Green means read. Blue means TBR. Red means I‘m still looking for a book. 3y

Susanita Texas is a boo boo. I‘m still reading it, but I‘m not changing the picture! 3y
Andrew65 Thanks, that‘s great progress 👏👏👏 3y
marleed Ohh, here‘s a NF mystery for Oklahoma. 3y
Susanita @marleed That sounds very interesting! I‘ve already got a Grisham for Arkansas, but I‘ll put this on my TBR. Thanks! 3y

A fun romp through the state of Delaware as Biden and Obama bicker like an old married couple and solve the mystery of a dead Amtrak conductor. #50states

Green means book has been read. Blue means book has been identified but not yet read. Red means I‘m still looking for a book from that state. So suggestions welcome...

Cortg For South Carolina, I loved The Secret Life of Bees, The Invention of Wings, and The Prince of Tides. 3y
squirrelbrain For Nebraska (loved this one!) 3y

squirrelbrain For South Caroline (very difficult read but wonderful) 3y
squirrelbrain For West Virginia (one of my favourites) 3y
squirrelbrain For Ohio (can you tell I did this challenge last year?!) 3y
Susanita @Cortg @squirrelbrain Thank you so much! Some of these are already on my TBR. My bad for not specifying that I‘m doing this challenge with mysteries. Anything‘s fair game as long as it won‘t give me nightmares. 3y
squirrelbrain Oh dear, sorry, I didn‘t realise! 😳 I don‘t think any of mine were mysteries.... 3y
Susanita @squirrelbrain It‘s my fault. I knew that was what I meant but expected y‘all to be mind readers. 3y
hes7 Here‘s a mystery in Nebraska, but it‘s the second in a series 3y
Susanita @hes7 That looks interesting. Thanks! 3y
Susanita @JaclynW @squirrelbrain That could work as true crime. But will it give me nightmares? 3y
JaclynW @Susanita I would say no. For me. It is disturbing. But it's the kind of disturbing that is almost unbelievable. Not totally stuff of nightmares. More bizarre like. If that makes sense. But. It is all real...so...? 3y
squirrelbrain No, I agree with @JaclynW - there‘s not that much about the crime itself, it‘s more focused on the history of the Mormons and how that led to the crime. 3y
JaclynW @squirrelbrain Yes. The focus is on the history. It's more journalistic-like too, not storytelling exactly. 3y
Cortg I‘m not a big mystery reader 🧐 3y

The old map was driving me nuts! As soon as I added one state, another one would drop! I like this site much better, because you can use different colors for different categories. (Spent a lot of time there, just passing through, etc.) In this case...green for book read, blue for book identified but not read, and red for book to be identified. #50states #mystery

ljuliel Very nice idea ! 3y
