Took me about a month and a half to read cause of work and grad school but it was worth it! Margaret Atwood is such an exquisite writer! She combines diverse emotions throughout. The ending was unpredictable and well-done. So many memorable quotes about womanhood, aging, mental health, wealth, and society. The characters and storylines are complex and intriguing. The book is takes place in the early 1900s; however its points are still pertinent!
#OnThisDay in 2000 Margaret Atwood's The Blind Assassin was published by McClelland and Stewart. Atwood's 13th novel was her first to win the Booker Prize, and also took home the Hammett Prize, among other nominations. Despite mixed reaction from critics, the award buzz spurred it to become second only to Handmaid's Tale for international book sales. #HistoryGetsLIT
5 ⭐️s! I know this isn‘t news to anyone… but Margaret Atwood‘s writing is exquisite. I loved the story within a story, the witty and reflective passages about aging, the incisive examination of traditional gender roles, and the way she captured humans‘ yearning to be remembered. Even though it‘s long, I still felt sad to turn the final page in Iris Chase‘s story - like saying a wistful goodbye to a great friend. #BOTM #botmbacklist #botmbacklog
"The only way you can write the truth is to assume that what you set down will never be read. Not by any other person, and not even by yourself at some later date. Otherwise you begin excusing yourself. You must see the writing as emerging like a long scroll of ink from the index finger of your right hand; you must see your left hand erasing it. Impossible, of course."

Atwood is one of my favorite authors and this, for me, is one of her best.

Once again the book swap delivers.
I‘ve never been disappointed with one of Margaret Atwood‘s novels. Her character development is always excellent. I loved how this book told you the end, then jump backed to the beginning and worked you towards the answers, slowly. There are undertones that are suggested, but not fully revealed until later. Which I loved because that is how life works you can see all the clues in hindsight. It was a complicated story but revealed nicely.
My first novel by Margaret Atwood and definitely not the last. The general theme and family drama is quite common, nevertheless it is brilliantly illustrated with truly outstanding writing.
Although I have figured out two of the three mysteries or plot twists before the end of the book, it was still a pleasure to let myself absorbed by the fabulously depicted timelines and watch the characters' destinies unfold.
My second Atwood, and a very good read! I spent a lot of the book putting clues and foreshadowing together to figure out the end—and I was right, too! I really liked reading this one! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was also my #doublespin for this month
I'm about a third of the way through....
Ok, I have to ask... is it worth carrying on? I enjoy the sections with the story of the blind assassin - the book within the book - but I dont care much for Laura or Iris, or anyone else in the flash backs, and old Iris isn't any more interesting than her younger self....
It is a strange kind of book I do not really know what it is where it s going... Pleasant to read but an ovni for now. #bookandtea
This, I-
It's long alright, and it can be boring at the start but, you know what, it's really good. The language, the one liners, the depth of the characters, the wah she fluidly sets the backdrop, wow.
I'd recommend it any day.

1. Tagged. A twisty bit of brilliance.
2. I‘ll have to go with my lifelong fave, L.M. Montgomery.
3. Fish and chips with dressing and gravy (It‘s a Newfoundland thing and it‘s exactly what it sounds like: battered fish and fries covered with turkey stuffing and gravy. Don‘t knock it until you‘ve woke up in St. John‘s with a crashing hangover and tried it 😆).
I‘ll tag 🇨🇦 lover, @Cathythoughts !
I had trouble following at times as certain scenes felt like they were covered in fog. It was also very long, but it's beautifully written. I wanted to highlight the entire book for my quote collection.
This is a remarkable twisty novel. The different plot threads are brilliantly woven together and the characters are intriguing. It's quite a page turner (it's not clearly who's doing or has done what until the end), and really dark.
📚I know several others have selected it, but I have to pick Blind Assassin.

Wow, after 7 months of reading & rereading The Blind Assassin I finally finished it whilst tidying & cataloguing my bookshelves.
Wow, because the ending was unexpected. I have been thinking about these characters all day since I finished it. I miss them, as I usually do when I complete a book, but I'm replaying lines & conversations trying to put all of the pieces together. I think I'm going to have to read the last juicy quarter again!

Twinning!
My number's coming up on the copy of this book from one Library Municipality, so luckily I am new member of a neighboring Municipality (after moving house recently I joined my new local library). So I can return the due one & keep reading!!
I must say, that after reading the first copy (clearly in very new condition) the second copy I've borrowed looks & feels quite well read.
I think I might have changed my views on old vs new books...
Ok, I've only got 2 weeks before this book is due back.
I've had it for 14 weeks and have only made it a 1/3 of the way through, although I must say, I'm really enjoying it and feel quite invested in the family story so far.
Now that I've come this far, I hope I can get through a decent chunk before Return Day!! But with Halloween looming I'm afraid my work will take my focus over the next 2 weeks.
I might consider a personal Atwood collection 😊
"Do I mean to say he didn't love her? Not at all. He loved her; in some ways he was devoted to her. But he couldn't reach her, and it was the same on her side. It was as if they'd drunk some fatal potion that would keep them forever apart, even though they lived in the same house, ate at the same table, slept in the same bed.
What would that be like-to long, to yearn for one who is right there before your eyes, day in and day out? I'll never know"
"Beginnings are sudden, but also insidious. They creep up on you sideways, they keep to the shadows, they lurk unrecognized. Then, later, they spring."
Ok, so I'm still reading this book, after 3 months
I feel like this might be my 4th time round. I got halfway through on audio but as it was getting good, I had many questions & I thought perhaps Id missed important details. So I began it again, on audio. It was suggested I read a physical copy to gain a better understanding so I'm doing that. I'm only 100 pages in & I'm taking notes this time. Yes, I'm getting it now, backed up 3rd time w/audio!
Lazy Sunday readin. And, yes, I am wearing Penguin PJ pants in September 🐧🐧🐧
