A few minutes reading in the sun outside the British Library.
I'm obsessed with these new SF masterworks covers. I may have bought 2 and coveted several more.

My list is going to be comprised solely of those elusive specimens: adaptations that exceed the source material.
*1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers featuring Donald Sutherland. I liked, didn't love, the original novel but the performances in this elevate it into something truly special.
*Jaws. This was above & beyond the source material in just about every way imaginable.
*Killing Eve. The source material Codename Villanelle is so generic (CONT)
It‘s difficult to predict the future & this book which was written in the 1950s takes place in Mill Valley, CA in the 1970s.
That said, the hysterical & helpless female protagonist does not reflect the Women‘s Lib movement of the 1970s. She‘s written as a product of her time.
Everything was moving along great until the last 3rd of the book where the exposition was endless.
Otherwise, this book is a classic for a reason & definitely worth the read.

I recommend the 1978 film
I really enjoyed the creepiness of this movie :) So great! Also, it really sucked me in!
Picture of my babies because they are actually being good in this picture, so they might be pod people!

I had decided to spend some time cleaning out my TBR (it's super unmanageable and overwhelming) Anyway, I was able to find this one on Libby (I had forgotten about it!). So I am starting to listen to this one while I do some cleaning :) #AudioCleaning
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ For my birthday, my boyfriend got me this amazing classic sci-fi book that I have had difficulty finding over the years ❤️ It was so amazing! I loved how we go from picturing this small town as perfect to the characters finally starting to see how much the town is dying making it easy for an invader to take over. I also learned about the Mattoon Maniac from this book. Really great sci-fi read! Recommend!
The color theme for the majority of SF Masterworks is #blueandyellow Pictured are a couple from my collection, I have a few more somewhere. Both are basis for great films (I love the '78 Invasion of the Body Snatchers & the Strugatsky was adapted into Tarkovsky's Stalker). I haven't really heard if Finney's book is good, I'm thinking about reading it soon. #curiouscovers @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
1. I‘ve given a brief description of this before, but here‘s the full, long-winded lowdown: I started as Bookwyrm42 because it‘s my favorite number and I love dragons and how wyrm is pronounced “verm”. There were dozens of other people using “bookworm” or some variation of it with a number as their username and I felt like I wasn‘t unique enough. I wanted to still use it in my name so I got out my Thesaurus and looked up synonyms for ⬇️

I LOVE the 1950‘s film. Even knowing the story, I felt the tension and unease that permeates throughout. I was surprised how modern it seemed. It touches on the “us vs. them” mentality but it also approached racism, sexism, equality, man vs. nature, and the wedge technology is driving between human interactions. I was also pleasantly surprised by how different the ending in the novel is to any of the films I‘ve seen. Absolutely a new fav!
1. Spoiler for Wheel of Time in comment. ⬇️
2. Wheel of Time 😅 (Obsessed much? 😜) Closely followed by Arc of a Scythe.
3. I LOVE the original black & white film (not so much the remake, though I adore Leonard Nimoy) and have never read the book. Thoroughly enjoying it!
I tag anyone who wants to play and hasn‘t been tagged yet! (I play along to these all the time without being tagged, don‘t feel like you have to wait! ❤️)

They get you when you sleep...
I've seen all of the adaptations of this book, so basically knew the plot, I guess why that's why I put off reading it for so long but I really enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to watching the 1978 version again - god that movie is terrifying.

Beware of the pod people! Always loved this movie, now it's time to read the book.
I think I enjoy the movie more, but this was a pretty solid story. +16 #TeamHarkness #Scarathlon2020
I also put some reading time in on the other books above. +330 #Screamathon #TrickorTreadathon #Thrilloween #Supernaturalathon #spooksandtea #Spookitupanotch
One of the most eerie and uncanny books I've ever read.
“From the inside of the great pods, a greyish substance, a heavy fluff in appearance, had partly spilled out onto the floor.“
“It's like a blank face, waiting for the final finished face to be stamped onto it!“
“It really wasn't a face; not yet. There was no life in it, it wasn't marked by experience; that's the only way I can explain it.“
Enjoying this as well! I'm in a horror novel kind of mood!
Absolutely loved this even if it is problematic. It‘s immediately creepy and you don‘t have to wait long for the shit to start going down!
Hubby‘s home, which means I have to watch more “adult” Halloween movies 😂
He thought this was going to scare me. I wasn‘t scared watching it, but we‘ll see when I go to sleep tonight.

I just reviewed this on my YouTube channel. Let's fanboy and fangirl out over one of my favorite books.

1. Invasion of the Body Snatchers by Jack Finney; Scarlet by Marissa Meyer; King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo; The Rose Society by Marie Lu
2. “I warn you that what you‘re starting to read is full of loose ends and unanswered questions.”
3. “She read books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live.” -Annie Dillard

Yes, I know I don‘t need more books. It‘s just that it would have been rude to say no.

#TBRtemptation post 4! (The original film adaptation is one of my favorite movies!) On a quiet evening in Mill Valley, California, Dr. Miles Bennell uncovers an insidious, horrifying plot. Silently, aliens are taking over his family's, friends', neighbors', and lover's bodies and minds. It's the ultimate alien invasion versus the human spirit to endure and fight. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
Well my aunt and @Craftylikefox were right! They are Poppies! Huge orange ones! @Gezemice @Bookzombie @emilyhaldi @Gezemice
I don‘t remember what I planted here, but either it will be beautiful when it blooms or I should dig it up quick before those pods start dropping spores. 😂
Loved it! I have never read this classic before and with my first experience, I have dubbed this as one of my top favorite horror books of all time. Although the movies are similar to the book, this literature outshines its many adaptations with content, development, and unsettling scares. I highly recommend to all sci-fi and horror fans.
Okay, this is a million times better than the movie(s). The action and creepy aspects move this out of the sci-fi genre and make it full fledge horror for me.
Day 4 #MayBookFlowers #inagalaxyfarfaraway Looking for my books w/aliens & other planets-I got caught by all the cool covers for this classic. I remember the movie tie-in one in the center & my e-book has the top left one but some of the older ones are awesome & I can't resist taglines like: "Was this his woman-or an alien life form?" & "They were alien, they were seed pods, they wanted human bodies-and day-by-day, one-by-one, they took them..."?
#Readathon Snack & shower break after finishing Book 2. I snuck this one in on my Kindle, wanting short & suspenseful. Loved the 1978 movie version w/Donald Sutherland & the 1957 original-but the book is a classic & a fun, quick #spookyread even though I was surprised it ends so differently-no spoilers! Who doesn't fear alien pod people that look just like our loved ones taking over?!👽Do my dukkah eggs & grapes look like seed pods?!😱6-Hours in!
