I think this book was quite good. Probably one of the better Aurora Teagarden mysteries. I‘m glad I listened.

This is the best most mysterious so far. I‘m sad there is only one left in the series.

I do like the new Teagarden books, mostly because Roe is slightly less judgmental. The mystery this time evolves her younger brother, Phillip, who's now a teen, and the fact that he and several other teens are missing.

This proved to be an absolutely gripping thriller, well-paced with each ratcheting up of the tension perfectly timed, and I found it quite unputdownable.

And now a little audio before I turn in. I was happy to see this book released, as I like Harris‘s Aurora Teagarden and Lily Bard series more than Sookie Stackhouse. At 5 hr 30 min for #24in48. Hope to do better tomorrow. Goodnight, all. 😴🌙💤

Harris recently renewed her pre-Sookie fame series with a new installment & I‘m glad there was a long break.I was pretty annoyed with the direction in which she took the romance (just like Sookie‘s) and now that those previous details have blurred,I was able to not resent Roe‘s new partner. The mystery is done with Harris‘s trademark mix of the mundane and the vicious. She just has a unique sense of non flashy crime delivered with down homey tones.

Charlaine Harris is one of my favorite authors. I can always count on her for a good mystery and laughs. I was so excited that she released another Aurora Teagarden mystery, it‘s been years. I borrowed this one from our libraries kindle selection. The selection gets better all the time. I love it!

My pick for today's #maybookflowers theme #lies - I'm desperate to read this. I can't justify buying it at the moment, but I want to see what Roe is up to now, even though I had a bit of a mixed reaction to the last few books, because it's been such a long time since Harris wrote about her!

My most recent read fits the #smalltown prompt, for #rockinmay. A cozy mystery, set in a small town outside Atlanta. Not the best cozy mystery, but I like Roe so I keep reading them anyway :) I've never been there, but according to AtlantaTrails this waterfall is near Lawrenceton.

Cinfhen Love the visual 💕 7y
Soubhiville I believe this is the waterfall at the start of the Appalachian Trail. My Dad hiked the Southern most chunk of it last year, and sent photos in front of (I think) this falls. 😊 7y

@britt_brooke Here is my monthly tracker. I have the days of the month numbered down the left side. I only mark a line when I start the book and will draw and fill in the bar when I finish. The cross hatched book (Feversong) was an audiobook, the rest were ebooks.

Next month I think I am going to not skip columns between books so that the bars are touching and I can fit everything on a single page.

carys14 Also Of Fire and Star was started in January and then the book expired and I had to wait a few weeks to check it out again, hence the arrow. Also if I skip a day reading I still color on the bar. I am more interested in how long it too to finish the book rather than the exact days I read which book. 7y

It's difficult to solve a mystery when everyone is lying about everything. It's a nice follow-up to what the characters are doing now.

Finally finished & a pick if you like the Aurora Teagarden mysteries. It was good to catch up w/the characters. It's a cozy so not the most complex of mysteries but entertaining & makes me look forward to another. Paired w/Heidi Swanson's Immunity Soup w/green soba noodles & veggies for lunch. Luckily made before the power went out due to winds-although it's still out & therefore no Gaga & the half-time show-the only part of Super Bowl I watch!😢

DebinHawaii Here's a link to the Immunity Soup recipe. You must like pepper for this one-it's strong on the white pepper! http://kahakaikitchen.blogspot.com/2017/02/heidi-swansons-immunity-soup-broth-wi... 7y

Pick, with caveats. Great, light read. A beach book. Some suspension of disbelief required. Prepare to roll your eyes at some light sexism and some somewhat, uh, old-fashioned values. Still, I enjoyed this and it was just what I needed after heavy nonfiction. 💁🏻

This. This is why Charlaine Harris's books will never be perfect for me. Latent (blatant?) sexism. 'She's good at the job plus she's beautiful, so you know she'll do fine.' In other places, we are expected to admire the main character's husband for doing the dishes. In one scene he dotes on her because she is pregnant and ill, then leaves her to make dinner for him moments later. HOKAY. Do better, Harris.

Day24 #readjanuary #page24ofcurrentread Here's page 24 of one of my current reads. I have 3 print books, 2 e-books & 2 audiobooks going right now (moody reader😆) This library book is #9 in Harris's Aurora Teagarden mystery series. I wondered if I should've gone back & reread #8 as it's been 13 years in between them, but the first part recaps things & I've caught the Lifetime movies & remember the characters enough that I'm enjoying catching up.👍

I just finished this book. I definitely should have re-read the previous books first. I didn't remember much from them. Including important info like who Robin Crusoe even is. Which I know is bad since he clearly was important. I enjoyed the Aurora books. It has just been a while and I only ever read them all once.

That said, I enjoyed this book. I just definitely want to re-read it again after I re-read the others. #aurorateagarden

On my recent two trips to the library (I went two days in a row to two different branches) I acquired this book. It's a 7 day rental. So, I have to read it asap.

I love the libraries here. I'm so happy to be back. The library in the town I was living in the last year and a half charged money for checking out new releases. :/ #library #libraries #aurorateagarden #charlaineharris

Suet624 What?? Charged money? That's crazy. And what I fear will become the norm. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Suet624, not really. If the book budget is small, it has to be supplemented in other ways. I'm not a fan of this practice (it would severely cramped my reading style). Not sure how US libraries are funded, in Australia they are attached to local government (which is how they are funded with a little help from State government.) 7y
Suet624 @thegirlwiththelibrarybag it is the same in the US. But I believe that libraries and all of its services should be available to anyone regardless of income. My local libraries raise extra funds through fundraisers and Friends organizations, not by charging for the newer books. With our new President, though, I'm concerned about Federal funding support being cut. 7y
See All 6 Comments
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Suet624, I haven't heard of them charging for new books here (sometimes for reserves, depends on the area). Free is definitely better and hopefully will be preserved! Hopefully it won't go the way of the UK libraries 🙁 7y
Vexingcircumstance It's very odd as the county I was living in wasn't really an underfunded one (not by SC standards anyway - it was considered a nicer county in the area with good schools). They also had a library book sale store that I would assume helped with funding. I'd lived in much smaller, poorer counties in the past who didn't charge for checking out books (or reserves or even special orders). 7y
Vexingcircumstance Charging at the library was something I had never seen before. 7y

Ok review time. I really really enjoyed this book!!! I saw this was just released, so I decided to read the series first. As a whole, I enjoyed them. A little silly. This is the first time I've read a mystery series like this. This one, however, I enjoyed way more than the others! Still a bit silly, but not over the top like I thought some of the others. Glad I read them, especially this one.

erzascarletbookgasm I've read the first two of Aurora T, decent reads. Enjoyed the tv series better, fun to watch. 7y

ok. I love the Aurora Teagarden books. like adore. and I was super excited for this one. it's ok. maybe I need a reread to refresh myself, but I don't think so. it was...ok. I liked it fine, but maybe it's just been too long, and like an ex, you can never quite get the magic back. I dunno. I'm still giving it a pick. it's not bad, it's just not the same.

^^^ I was one of those, but deeply regret it now. Memories fade over the years but: Has Roe always been so awful?? She's pregnant, her brother's missing. When everything's going on, she's annoyed that people aren't more excited about her pregnancy. When her friend needs support, she's like, what about me? And the mystery...meh. At least it was short. I wanted Ms. Harris to revisit the Harper/Grave series but after this???? No, please don't.

I loved this book and I can't wait for the next to come out! The pic on top is me and my mother-in-law at a book signing with Charlaine Harris almost four years ago! Even though I finished this series within the last year, I so enjoyed this new trip back to Georgia with Aurora Teagarden & Co. Roe's half-brother Phillip goes missing along with several other kids, Roe and Robin are on the case (on the sly, of course). Only took two sitting to finish this puppy up. And while I'm glad that Ms Harris is writing more in this series, I want the next one to be out already! #booknerdproblems
