pickI‘ve been a fan of John Grisham since the beginning of his writing career. I remember being in a college classroom and the professor casually talking about Grisham‘s first book, The Firm. In The Whistler, Lacy is a lawyer/investigator of Florida judges. Lacy and her partner, Hugo, are assigned a case involving a judge accused of corruption regarding the development of a casino on Native American land.

pickGot completely sucked into this crime thriller. Usually these types of books move slowly for me and I lose track of characters etc. That wasn‘t the case with this book. I was all in and loved it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
pickI don‘t ever read fiction so I have nothing to really compare this to, but I liked it. The perfect sized book to bring out and kill 30 minutes. I kept wanting to know how things would play out. I didn‘t realize there was an epilogue and the first chapter of another book at the end, so when the book ended, I was surprised and expecting more.
Main characters are female and I‘m enjoying it. An investigation of a judge turns deadly.
pickA return to form for Grisham in a lot of ways. We have a determined smart investigator seeking to root out corruption, a complicated conspiracy and a quick plot involving a corrupt judge, Indian casinos and organized crime. Throw a murder or two into the mix and you end up with an enjoyable airplane read.
panI think I'm done with John Grisham. He was one of my favorites during his Firm / Pelican Brief era, but after trying a few of his recents, I'm convinced he's lost his mojo. This one was just boring. With the exception of about 20 pages of action and excitement, the book was a snooze-fest. I didnt care what happened or if the bad guys got the comeuppance they deserved. Meh.
pickA little bit of legal arena, organised crime drama is always guaranteed with Grisham. This one was recommended to my by a student, and hit all the marks I wanted it to. I really enjoyed the background commentary on casinos and their impact (both good and bad) on First Nations communities. My only criticism is that it was a very quick wrap up, but it was a solid read that entertained me over a couple of quiet days.
pickGrisham has not disappointed me yet and probably won‘t in the future. What happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? Investigators look into a Florida judge who has stolen more money than all other crooked judges combined. And not just crooked judges in Florida. All judges, from all states, and throughout United States history.

pickIt‘s been a long time since I read a John Grisham book. I wasn‘t sure that I would like this all that much but it held my attention and kept me interested.
so-soI‘ve never read or listened to a John Grisham book before. I‘ve seen some of the movies based on his work, so I‘m familiar with him. I listened to this one on Libby for our Friends of the Library meeting that‘s coming up as it was this month‘s book. It was alright. It held my interest since it was a quick read. But it wasn‘t awesome. And it doesn‘t encourage me to seek out his other work.
pickWorking down my Grisham‘s, and this was a good story-driven book. And timely, since it allows me to give a shout out to the intestinal fortitude of whistler-blowers!

A few weeks ago, I got a text from my dad asking if I had read this book. I said no. The next message asked if I wanted this, as they were at a library sale and it was only a few dollars. Of course I jumped at the opportunity for a new read. Thanks Dad!

My current daily work commute audio book. Just my 2nd audio book but loving the "company" that an audio book provides.
so-soThis was ok. Good for reading when short of time - I didn‘t have a lot of time this week to get really absorbed in anything. I did feel like it was going through the motions a bit, it didn‘t really grab me, and then it just...ended. Glad I‘ve finished it and can move on!
I confess I enjoy a John Grisham. I‘m a sucker for a courtroom drama, but more so they are “Dad books” for me. They remind me of my dad and the books he read and would often pass on to me. My mum bought me this for Christmas and I thought it‘d get pushed down my pile for a while, but I‘ve been recovering from flu the past few days so a Dad book is just what I need ❤️☺️
so-soI'm not sure if I would have liked this book more as a physical book as opposed to an audio book; I didn't love the narrator. But it was entertaining enough to get me through about two weeks of cooking and cleaning.
The story itself was interesting, but didn't grab me, and the end felt rushed, as if Grisham was just checking off a list to make sure the reader had closure.
so-soCertainly not as good as his earlier works - this took a lot of getting into. Only about half way through did the pace pick up and then it was a race to the (quite unsatisfactory) end. It seemed as though he got bored himself and just neatly tied everything up. Had the potential to be much better but in the end it was simply disappointing.

pickI am a long time lover of John Grisham, having started reading his books when I was 12, thanks to my dad. I can probably even credit my criminal justice career to him. This book is so good and just a testament to the fact that he is not an author who has sold out to ghostwriters. With a storyline about a corrupt judge and seeming cooperation with everyone around her, this is one you will love to the end. #read2018
pickGood to be reading Grisham again. You'll love the conspiracy and places the characters go in this book from Northwest Florida to Franklin, NC.
I always like John Grisham mysteries but found this one exceptionally good.

pickI zipped through this, and it was a nice, easy read. A few surprises, and a few things that I didn't think were important, or, if they were supposed to be, weren't fully developed. So my favorite Grisham, "A Time To Kill," is in no danger of being replaced. He's spoiled me, I guess. Or I've just gotten jaded...
