Do you believe in faeries? Not the soft, gentle kind, but the sinister, feral kind ~ the ones that wreak havoc on everything in their path... Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she travels from city to city with her mother's rock band, until an ominous attack forces them back to her childhood home. To the place where she used to see Faeries. They're still there. But Kaye's not a child anymore and this time she's dragged into the thick of their dangerous, frightening world. A realm where black horses dwell beneath the sea, desperate to drown you where the sinister Thistlewitch divines dark futures and where beautiful faerie knights are driven to perform acts of brutal depravity for the love of their uncaring queens. Once there, Kaye finds herself an unwilling pawn in an ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms ~ a struggle that could end in her death

So I set my GR goal to 117 books... Why? Because with the design I chose for my readingjournal that's how many boxes I could fit on the page 🤣
Tithe is actually a reread for me, I remember to have loved the book many years ago and found out that there were 3 in the series. I enjoy Blacks fearie tales!

Jari-chan 117 is a nice number - good luck and good reading! 3w

This dark Holly Black Fairie tale was my first book by her years ago and I fell in love with her gritty, dark view of Faerie and our world. Like her other books it‘s a very mature YA. Lots of disturbing themes and images.

I had such high hopes for this, but it turned out not to be for me. I had trouble following the story - I thought there were too many plot holes and I couldn't understand how some things progressed. I didn't enjoy the (lack of) explanation about magic and the Faerie world. It's my first Black book and there's so much love for her. I will give her another chance - this was written so long ago that her written style may have improved since.

Sarz This was my pick for #lmpbc but now I'm going to choose something different. I don't want to subject my group to this! @thegreensofa @BecH @LapReader 10mo

This is quite fun, but I can tell how the author has grown as a writer since this book was written. Her later work shows more maturity and is more compatible with older YA readers.

IndyHannaJones I first read this this time of year in 7th grade when my parents were in the middle of a divorce. Thinking ofvthis book always makes me feel better and makes necthink of February and Valentine's day. 11mo

Just finished up my re-read of Tithe and Cruel Prince before starting The Wicked King and going to meet Holly Black tomorrow night! 🙀🙀😻😻

Tithe is also my #remindsyouofyourhappyplace read for #booked2019! I read this when I was in high school and fell in love with folklore and the faerie world, and have been consuming all I can since then. I‘ve reread it multiple times and it always makes me nostalgic and happy. 💛

blithebuoyant @Shvonne girl, I picked up Tithe when I was 13 or so? I wore that paperback out between the ages of 13 and 18 lol I got to meet her and listen to her speak on a panel this past spring and I nearly peed my pants 😂 1y
Asthecroweflies @blithebuoyant it‘s much better than what I thought since it‘s not technically a fairy love story. It‘s kind of an urban fantasy beauty and the beast kind of theme. I liked it, but not as much as the other two. Cruel Prince has taken my heart and I can‘t until January when the next book comes out! 1y

3⭐️⭐️⭐️ I think maybe if I‘ve read this book years ago I would have liked it better although that is a big maybe. I got this book for my daughter a few years back and I should have read it before letting her read it 😕 the MC is a 16 yo who smokes a lot and also drinking is everywhere on the story and so much more that I think it‘s not appropriate for teens. I don‘t think I recommend this book, definitely not for teens.

Day 2 of #12daysofchristmas is my favorite #TwoTurtledoves, Roiben and Kaye from #TitheAModernFairyTale by #HollyBlack! I believe I've already reviewed this but it was my first introduction to non-D&D fantasy and I adore this entire series.

blithebuoyant @LibrarianRyan Ironside was, dare I say, even better. I haven't read Valiant yet but I need to, it's not the same cast as the first two. Holly Black will forever be in my top ten favorite authors of all time. Tithe is dark and edgy. The characters are not perfect but are beautifully flawed. Kaye goes to the unseelie court with Robin and the dark queen claims her for tithe. Robin and Kaye most fight to survive the unseelie court.
