This is a beautiful beginning, which takes place in a world post monarchy, where dragons need companions and women can fall in love with each other without anyone else batting an eye. I adored the mystery, the magic, the friendships, and the feels.

Unscripted | Nicole Kronzer

This is a powerful story of a girl who just wants to do well at improv camp having to deal with toxic masculinity, manipulation, and a culture of not calling out homophobia, racism, and other abuses (and when she steps up, she's dismissed as too sensitive, because "boys will be boys").

TW: sexual assault, verbal/physical abuse, homophobia, racism, discussion of attempted suicide/parental death, &brief mention of blood.

This week's #WednesdayTradition features The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene and an AriZona Hard Iced Tea.⁣

The last time I was on a cross Canada trip, it was one way from East to West, and I was 12. Now, more than two decades later, I decided to start a reread of the original 56 volumes on a road trip, across and back, with my wonderful partner.⁣

Man, Iced Tea is different from the last trip. 😉

PickettT Ah, I remember this was the second book I'd borrowed from my school library when we were finally allowed to take them home and given a week's time to complete them. It made me stay up late and finish it on the same day. The rest of the week was spent in anticipation of the next week's library hour. 😂 Good old days! 4mo

Question of the Day: How do you balance "one more chapter" with getting exercise? #QotD

The only thing that works for me is walking while listening to audiobooks. I really want to enjoy and appreciate exercise, but I don't get a runners' high or whatever other chemical rush some folks do, and would rather use my spare time to read.⁣

#OneMoreChapter

[ID: daily question text next to a cartoon figure who appears to be running.]

Gissy I run at least 4 days per week, well to be honest, is like a power walking but in my mind I‘m a runner😜Tomorrow will go for our 18 miles which means I will be the last one to complete it 😆 I‘m trying to do some exercises those days I don‘t run and will like to do more activities at the beach. All these activities are in the morning. I don‘t read while I do exercises. Not at this moment. 6mo

Enchanted_Bibliophile I do quick workouts (nothing more than 30min) first thing in the morning so that it can't interfere with the rest of my day. 6mo
kathytrithardt Yeah @Enchanted_Bibliophile I try to trick myself into a 40 minute walk first thing before I wake up and talk myself out of it 6mo
Enchanted_Bibliophile @kathytrithardt 🤣 I'm good at that too... But honestly try something short. I started with 10min workouts and upped it overtime (5 years) to 30min. I don't like waisting time, but I realise the importance of being active. And I learned to love my 20or30min of work. Anything more and I lose interest. 6mo

Mehso-so

Although I love this world filled with gender and disability representation, I had trouble picturing each scene. What did this world look like? The action was so quick that I had trouble following who was in each scene and how they got there.

That being said, the interactions between characters were, at times, intriguing and fun to see unfold.

I'm interested to see where the third volume of this series takes us.

Gissy Mostly I‘m a season reader but I try to add in my tbr different genres, old books I owned, specially sequels and books received in swaps. I try to match a the book themes with different readathon prompts. All these elements are part of my 2021 goals. 6mo
CindyMyLifeIsLit Sometimes my choice is made based on group reads I‘m participating in. I choose audiobooks based on books that sound engaging but not very complex, like horror and thrillers. This is an honest, frank family memoir written in an easy to read narrative non-fiction style about the author's upbringing. It features parents who married during WWII - a recent high school graduate & a man who'd already run from the love of his life in order to survive

Not everything she reports was handled perfectly. This is a story she needed to tell, and it appears she did that with an open heart & love for her complex, utterly human family
