Every time I read this book, I marvel at how intense this little story about rabbits is. The way the details unfold and the meaning becomes clear is something I savor. Such a treat to be reading this again with my son, especially as a break from move-prep chaos.

Mehso-so

Just as you think the rabbits are safe and happy, a new danger arises that looks set to doom them, only they overcome it by working together and appreciating each other‘s strengths. As an armchair editor, I would‘ve suggested splitting the story in two, and made the whole Efrafra business a sequel (or, at least, a second volume – Watership Down 2: Back In The Warren). Hoping to finish my 3 current books and Cassandra at the Wedding this week plus Razorblade Tears on audio for the readathon for #Sharread. Also need to get caught up on my buddy reads. I changed my mind but didn‘t change my collage when choosing Razorblade from Sharon‘s TBR.

#BookReport

Finished both #Roll100 books:

The Wife Upstairs 2🌟 I think this was suppose to be a thriller but there was no tension or suspense.
Whereabouts 3.5🌟 Lovely writing about a single women‘s desire for connection, at least I think that was the point🤷🏻‍♀️

She Became the Sun 4 🌟 A young girl‘s desire to be great and her journey to that end. Another great #NYWD pick.

Murder on Astor Place 4.5🌟 Great start on a new to me series

PuddleJumper That's awesome! 3mo
Cinfhen Nice 👍🏽 I really enjoyed Whereabouts once I realized it was fiction and not an actual memoir 😉😅 3mo

The first round of books I ordered for my son's Build Your Library homeschool curriculum, level 7, arrived today! Seriously, buying books might be my favorite part of homeschooling. (I get most of them from the library but some I find an excuse to buy.) This photo does not do these covers justice, especially The Wondrous Workings of Planet Earth, which is all sparkly in real life.

A beautiful edition of this wonderful book. Not exactly a children‘s book but perfect to share with my (almost) teen daughter. The characterisation of the rabbits was lovely and, at least in the case of General Woundwort, quite frightening. Hazel is a fine example of an exceptional leader - not the strongest or the cleverest rabbit, but always brave and able to promote and employ the attributes of others for the benefit of all.

Didn‘t expect to get so invested in a book about bunnies, but here we are. 😂 Adventure! An enchanting cast of characters! Beautiful world making! Bunny folklore! This touching classic has everything. The emotions I had while reading this book made for a truly delightful experience, & despite Adams‘s claims, the allegories and themes explored in this book are deeply meaningful. 100% worth neglecting my parental duties for a weekend. 5⭐️ #bookspin

This is listed as a children's book?!?
Not to bash on it but are we sure? This is the first time I read this book and I was just awash in feelings. This felt so much more than a children's book, this read across as so much older.
There's a fantastic amount of attention to detail, world building, and allegories in here that I was not expecting or ready on how to deal with when I became emotional at certain points within the book.

rubyslippersreads I don‘t consider this a children‘s book. It upset me as an adult. 1y
mariaku21 @rubyslippersreads I got emotional reading it and it was my first time ever but I've seen this listed as a children's book in a few different places including libraries 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1y
rabbitprincess It‘s probably listed as children‘s lit because animals are the protagonists 🙄 It is definitely not for little ones! 1y

BehindthePages Such a good book ❤ 2y
Chrissyreadit My kids and I really enjoyed this even though the author espoused his views about women for the time and wrote it for his daughters. This is a book I wish there was a feminist retelling of. 2y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Chrissyreadit - I didn‘t realise it was one of those books. All I know is that it makes people cry. 2y
Chrissyreadit @thegirlwiththelibrarybag it is a great book and well told- engaging, yes has sad but also happy. It‘s an archetypal journey type but female characters are primarily for the purpose of being rescued and cared for. Typical for the time but I‘m an outspoken feminist so my son and my daughter were surprised as we were reading it by that perspective. We were able to talk about the time it was written and why feminism is a verb and necessary. 2y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Chrissyreadit, I do plan on reading it at some point (I‘d like to read my way through the books on the Time 100 Best Fantasy Books list) but it is so important to not let these things slide (just because a book is old doesn‘t mean it gets a free pass). It‘s great that you can have these conversations with your kids. 2y

Susanita @Cosmos_Moon It was a discount clothing store that was only open on weekends. The store was in a big warehouse space with a communal dressing room for trying on the clothes. Anything that didn‘t sell one week would be further discounted the next week. I think ultimately it wasn‘t sustainable, but I understand they still have an outlet in Massachusetts. 2y

I've been putting off reading this book for years. I had a copy when I was a teenager, but I just could not bring myself to read it. When I finally did read it, I was pleasantly surprised. It was a little difficult what with the "bunny" language called Lapine and parts of it were heart wrenching, but I would still recommend it. Of course, I sometimes like reading books where the main characters are animals.
