I enjoyed watching the neighbor's dog playing this morning. Missed my photo opportunity, so this is a web photo.

A quibble - this is listed as 0.6 in the Spirit Animals series, but it‘s really more of a prequel to the sequel series (Spirit Animals: Fall of the Beasts). It does its job setting up the new series/bridging the original and sequel series by introducing the new characters, but each of the short stories basically follows the same arc.

Two books read in ongoing series. Stephanie Plum is always a good escapist read for me. It‘s the same story over and over but there is comfort in that. Ruby was a much better book in this series than Bob‘s book. Of course Ivan‘s story is still the best. One more book to go and I‘ll be finished with The One and Only series.
Doing much better now. 🤍

A collection of prequel short stories for the Spirit Animals series. I thought the story about the creation of the bile was good as well as the last story about the council of Great Beasts were especially good at further fleshing out the world. Overall, I don‘t think they were the most memorable, though.
Big thumbs up from the 9 year old as we continue through the series. Things we learned: elephants are now growing shorter tusks due to years of poaching (which is sad but cool how biology works as a way to try & protect the species). In the author‘s notes she gave some good resources: Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (oldest elephant sanctuary) & Elephant Voices website has elephant ethograms where you can learn all about elephant behaviors. Wishing all of you on Litsy the happiest new year! This year, I‘m hoping to get back into more classics after giving myself a bit of a break over the last couple years. I want to reread all of Jane Austen‘s work to celebrate her 250th birthday, tackle Proust‘s Swann‘s Way, Dickens‘ Hard Times, and a few others that have sat on my TBR too long. Of course, I‘ll also be picking up whatever looks good in the moment for fun too! Happy reading!
Really enjoyed this collection of short stories set before the first Spirit Animals book. I wish the stories were a bit longer though, especially the last one. I feel like the action was kind of rushed to make it fit a certain work count or something. I would recommend it for fans of the Spirit Animals series but it probably won‘t be as enjoyable if you haven‘t read the main series already.
