The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet: A Novel | Becky Chambers
A rollicking space adventure with a lot of heartWhen Rosemary Harper joins the crew of the Wayfarer, she isn't expecting much. The patched-up ship has seen better days, but it offers her everything she could possibly want: a spot to call home, a chance to explore the far-off corners of the galaxy, and some distance from her past. And nothing could be further from what she's known than the crew of the Wayfarer. From Sissix, the exotic reptilian pilot, to Kizzy and Jenks, the chatty engineers who keep the ship running, to the noble captain Ashby, life aboard is chaotic and crazyexactly what Rosemary wants. That is until the crew is offered the job of a lifetime tunneling wormholes through space to a distant planet. Sure, they'll earn enough money to live comfortably for years, but risking her life wasn't part of the job description. The journey through the galaxy is full of excitement, adventure, and mishaps for the Wayfarer team. And along the way, Rosemary comes to realize that a crew is a family, and that family isn't necessarily the worst thing in the universeas long as you actually like them.

I am not a hardcore Sci-Fi fan but I did enjoy this book. I didn‘t love it, but I certainly liked it enough to give it 3 stars. I would recommend to the right person.

Fleeing her old life, Rosemary Harper joins the multi-species crew of the Wayfarer as a file clerk, and follows them on their various missions throughout the galaxy.

This was an absolute delight, and I don‘t say that often about Sci-fi. A lovely cast of characters go on adventures in space. Very similar found family vibes to TJ Klune‘s books. I have added the rest of the series to my tbr! 5⭐️

This was so freaking good. Excellent character composition with so much wonderful, masterfully handled. So many great character interactions. It wasn't sappy, but dang it hit the feels. The plot was magnificent & just flowed. It tackled so many BIG social topics in a natural & noninflammatory way. Just amazing. This is one of those books that feels like it just opened a whole new realm of reading possibilities. Do yourself a favor. Read it.

shanaqui The whole series is like this, in slightly different ways in each book! You have a treat ahead. :D 1mo

This was such a boring slog of a read. There was no dramatic tension, there was no tension full stop. Things were introduced then immediately resolved.

Managed to finish off my #Roll100 for March.

I really loved this one. The characters were so varied and interesting. Their relationships complicated and sweet. While not much happens from an action perspective, you see the characters grow on their long haul trip. I will definitely be looking at reading the others :)

This was such a delight to read! Space shenanigans reminiscent of Firefly, and characters that are easy to love. The discussions about different cultures, politics, and space science were all well written, entertaining, and mature without being preachy/predictable.

This book is much more focused on characters than anything else. Cause after 400+ pages, not much happened, but I adored every moment spent on the Wayfarer with the heart warming crew!

I‘m currently reading the tagged book which wasn‘t on @Karisa‘s list, but I‘m really enjoying it so have no doubt I will make it to the 4th in the series, which is the one on her list, sometime soon this year! Migrations will be the first off the list I‘ll start next.

I had a chance to finish The Long Way on the train back home. I found the first 200 pages a bit slow going but finished the second half much more quickly. Pretty good book but I‘m not sure if I will finish the series.

Emily also gave me The Love Hypothesis ❤️ and I‘m debating whether to read that or Red, White & Royal Blue next.

#2021Book112
The more science fiction I read, the more I find myself enjoying the genre. My main problem with space-centric science fiction, though, is that I have a hard time picturing what the different creatures/species are supposed to look like, so I end up imagining them all as Zoidberg from Futurama.

My father passed away on Friday after a year-and-a-half struggle with pancreatic cancer. This book was a very good choice to retreat to over this difficult and painful week. The characters are delightful and with the focus on character, I didn‘t get too worried about what the bad guys might be going. I‘m glad I had done some grieving and was less emotionally fragile by the time I got to the finale, though!

Hey, look! I finally completed my July #bookspinbingo board! And also one book (tagged), lol. Off to a late start this month, thanks to what was actually a really fun family road trip vacation 🚙🏕⛰. I had some audiobooks picked out for the car, but we could only ever agree on music 🤷🏻‍♀️

I loved this so much, first off.
Obviously queer found family gets me, and I was pretty much in love with the Wayfarer crew instantly. Maybe introduced a little too likeable somehow, but honestly on finishing it I don't even care. They each got rounded out through the book, and now I'm super curious about how the rest of the series progresses.

Okay this is my new favorite series! I fell in love with these characters and the whole universe. It's a sci-fi space adventure following the tunneling ship, the Wayfarer. They are a ragtag crew of many species just trying to get along and do their job. But they all have different cultures and prejudices and maybe some secrets. I didn't want this one to end. Looking forward to reading the next one!

Don‘t let the 400+ page count scare you away! This is an easy, fast and very straightforward story about a crew who heads out on a lucrative contract to tunnel through a bit of space in a volatile area.

The author spends a lot of time creating characters of different species, genders, sexualities & loves— often at the expense of a more developed action line; but fun if you‘re looking for something light!

This was the second time I have read this book and I adored it as much as the first time.

The characters are so well written that the crew felt like family, AI feel like people too, The Wayfarer feels like home and I'm crying with a broken heart all over again over one of the crew!

I cannot recommend this book enough!
