The illustrations in this goofy little chapter book are wonderful! The feel of this book is pretty old, but that's because itsy an old book. I still thought it was fun, and had enough silly animal antics and trickery to entertain kids today. #ChapterBook

Finally got in a seasonal read of my own 🎃 cute book! I was surprised by the lack of explanation on how Mildred arrives at school; it just jumps right into her mishaps there. The Netflix series seems to associate her background with why she's the worst witch. Does that all come out in later books? Overall a simple chapter book with an imaginative setting. What a super fun book! This chapter book, the first in a series, is all about The Grumpy Woods, where everyone is, well, grumpy, except the Super Happy Party Bears! They have dance parties all the time! The beavers move in and dam things up and don't seem to be too friendly. You'll have to read it to see what happens! I know the author and I'm so proud of her! In a lot of ways, this was a nuanced look at friendship and family and class. As an adult reader, I found it somewhat frustrating, though. #chapterbook #realistic fiction

I can see potential in the characters, but the plot is seriously something you have to suspend your belief some for. Really, it reads as very young middle grade. I've heard the next book is better.. maybe I'll see.
