This sentence made me LOL. I'm listening to the audiobook, and her delivery is spot on. Really enjoying this one!

What can I say, I love Amy Poehler. Her life in funny skits read by her and a few of her close friends (and her parents) was the perfect way to start of 2024
I listened to the audiobook on this one and would recommend it. I thought hearing her jokes was better. I also liked all the guest appearances. I think the best part of the book was her reading to a live audience at the end. The jokes were so much funnier with her interaction with the audience and the laughter. I would have preferred if the book was more linear, it jumped from different years and times, but that seems to match Amy‘s personality.
This is a re-read for me. I read it for the first time a few years ago and thought it was funny and heartfelt. It has funny stories of Amy's upbringing and career as well as heartfelt but still amusing life advice.
Yes please, indeed! I devoured it in 2 days on audio.
Funny, honest, beautiful, and did I mention funny? Make that hilarious.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I especially suggest the audiobook version, if nothing else for the Patrick Stewart haikus. #alphabetgame #letterY
⭐⭐⭐⭐
First finish (clocking about 4 hours) for the #20in4 readathon. I enjoyed this look at the life and career of Amy Poehler. She definitely strikes me as someone who is as hard-working and dedicated as she is funny.
I think this is the fifth bio of someone famous I‘ve read so far this year and I gotta say, I don‘t think it works for me. I just feel like there tends to be a lot of names they use that it feels like I should know who they‘re talking about, but I don‘t because I just don‘t follow anyone that closely. Interesting inside look at the person but I think I‘m not going to do famous people bios anymore.
I liked it! It was funny, as expected, but also had some serious bits. Not everything aged well. (Her glowing comments about Louis C.K. for example.) Overall I really liked her views on life interspersed with her own experiences. There were also guests that popped in throughout. It was a fun listen.
This was enjoyable, and I liked the mixed-media elements. But for some reason, I just wasn't feeling pulled to pick it back up after I would put it down. Some of the small things that were supposed to be funny just don't hit right anymore. I love Amy, but this felt like she was trying too hard. This box of books is what I was able to clear out from my personal library using audiobooks through Libby. I‘m finding audiobooks are the best way for me to read lately because I‘m really bad about sitting still for too long and have the attention span the size of a flea.
@rjsthumbelina The tagged book left my house headed towards yours this morning. I sent it priority mail, so it should arrive well before May 1. 🤞 I forgot to take a picture of the package, so here's a photo of Camille, lounging on her window perch. #lmpbc
Some of the stories in here are hilarious, especially with the interactions on the audiobook, but I'm not a fan of celebrities giving life advice, and Poehler did a little more of that than I would have preferred. And there's SO MUCH name dropping. #lmpbc
@rjsthumbelina I hope to be sending this on to you soon.
@Roary47 which of the goodies you included in the package am I meant to keep and which should I pass along?
4✨ This is hilarious! She has a natural gift for humor and while there is some heavy content at times she doesn‘t throw people under the bus and owns up to when she is wrong. I think her advise is worth a look at. While I really enjoyed it I personally did not like the drugs and sex talks since I did the audible with kids around. So just be mindful it‘s there if you decide to go this route. #LMPBC #GroupV
It‘s good! Amy Poehler is delightful, what can I say? I only wish I‘d saved this book for the summer to read on a beach. I liked it, though.
An inspiring and funny collection of tales from across Amy Poehler's life. She reminded me of how the creative life is a series of projects, some of which also get to be our jobs, but all of which get to form our careers. I've been sharing this nugget of wisdom with my coaching clients for the past couple of weeks. ❤️ Loved it!
My Rating: 5/5
There was basically 0.5% chance that I wouldn't like this book - but I didn't like it; I loved it! Poehler managed to write a book that was, in my opinion, the perfect balance between funny and serious. It has the perfect amount of artfully described childhood and career experiences to give insight into who she is. I would highly recommend the audiobook.
I have been wanting to read this for years. It was exactly what I was hoping for and I adored it. Equal parts hilarious and heartwarming with some lovely messages mixed in.
I have always enjoyed Amy Poehler but I think I like her even more after reading this. It has a different tone to it than Tina Fey‘s Bossypants but just as amusing.
The first half, I was kinda disappointed: it was just ok, a lot about motherhood that seemed redundant with other working mom celebrities. The second half, she talks more about her career and Parks and Rec that makes sticking with the book worth it!
That was AMAZING 🤩 🎧🙌🏻I had NO IDEA how fabulous and funny Amy is. The audio is a must‼️I have a strong suspicion that onstage Amy is the same as offstage Amy. I enjoyed her childhood recollections because they were so vivid and true. This was a FIVE STAR listen and definitely on my #20Best2020 list 💗🎉
Somehow, I missed this audio memoir #classic when it was first released. Today felt like the right time to FINALLY listen 🎧 😁
Before I started listening to audiobooks, I read this as an ebook and thought it was just okay.
Audio is a game-changer on this memoir! From Sir Patrick Stewart reading haikus to the lovely back and forth between her and Seth Meyers, it was pure fun! It made all my chores and errands so much more enjoyable. 4⭐️ #audiobook
I listened to the audiobook and I own a copy. It was so worth listening to her! She‘s hilarious and so honest. Hearing about her trip to Haiti was heartbreaking but made me so happy! My husband and I joined Team Hope that helps feed children in Haiti and it makes me smile to know that we can even do a small part to help.
Amy Poehler is so strong and I feel like she and I could be best friends! I adore her. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
It's a great book for a laugh during these dark times. It‘s real in the way you want memoirs to be; it‘s funny in the way you hope a comic‘s memoir is; and it‘s raw in a way a strong woman who knows her own mind is. With cameos and advice, Poehler is funny and serious. She makes it clear she hates writing books, don't expext another one anytime soon. https://onthebl.org/2020/10/04/id-like-all-advice-to-be-as-friendly-as-amy-poehl...
I loved this book! Amy Poehler is very funny and I cried when she was talking about her time at Parks & Rec. I highly recommend the audiobook because it has a whole host of people reading with her, including Seth Meyers.
I‘ve had this unread book in hardcover for a years now and finally skipped that and listened to it on audio. SO glad I did! She‘s hilarious and the inclusions of Seth Myers, her parents, etc made it even better. I wish I‘d read/listened to it sooner, but I felt it was a perfect time for me to listen right now. I definitely recommend it!
Laughed such a great book if you love Amy Poehler this is a book for you :)
I can‘t say I was a huge fan of Amy when I picked up this book, but I would have to say I am a bigger fan now. Yes, the book was hilarious and had me laughing the entire time, but Amy is a comedian so that was to be expected. I think it was her willingness to be vulnerable about her fears, her history of drug use, her openness about her divorce and her needing to find her-self again. I enjoyed it. #overbookedclub #monthofmemoirs
Y'all, this book was so good!! I listened to it (Amy reads it herself) and enjoyed every minute! She's a fantastic reader. It really just sounds like she's talking to you! It was funny, thoughtful, sweet and encouraging. I love SNL and Parks and Rec so it was cool to get some behind the scenes info. I loved how she spoke about her ex-husband but didn't give salacious details or put him down. Very classy. I want to be her best friend now!
Do you ever find people staring at you as you‘re catching your breath from laughing at something you just read… Looking at you as if you just lost your mind… Actually freaked out by your sudden burst of laughter… This was that moment! #monthofmemoirs #overbookedclub
However, if you do start crying in an argument and someone asks why, you can always say, "I'm just crying because of how wrong you are.”
Confession time: I haven't seen Parks and Recreation and we didn't get SNL in the UK when Poehler featured (or if we did it was on at a stupid time on a cable channel I did not have) but I loved hearing about how she rose to the top. She's not afraid to admit where she's made mistakes. I admire her reflective honesty and growth because of it.
I have only one book left to complete my #audiobookathon 🎧📚 I just have to decide which favorite book to revisit...

1. Erin Morgenstern, Lisa Gardner, Maeve Binchy, and hundreds more!
2. Amy Poehler- especially since reading her book Yes Please!
3. I don't blog much anymore, but I know @SilversReviews blogs here: https://silversolara.blogspot.com/
4. The bookstore I work at! Fountain Bookstore in Richmond, VA has always been female owned and is celebrating 42 years!

Enjoy!
100% recommended audiobook! I‘m stating this because Amy Poehler made it work, and I‘m not sure reading this would have the same reaction. Her giggles were adorable.
Amy Poehler shares life stories, advice and behind the scenes looks into her time on SNL and Parks and Recreation. It sounds like she is a genuine person, and the book left me feeling good.
And that‘s always a plus!
So far so good!
I recently started watching Parks and Rec (love!) so why not give this a try! Alway enjoyed Amy Poehler‘s humor so I‘m definitely looking forward to the rest.
Just okay. I read the ebook and I definitely think it lost something in translation. I also would have enjoyed it more as an audiobook. Some great stories, loved the stuff on Parks and Recreation. Some awkward mentions of her divorce from Will Arnett. Just okay.
I probably would have given this book 3 stars if I had not listened to the audiobook. I love listening to authors read their own books....especially celebrities. This was well written and pretty funny. She also read the last chapter to a live audience which was amazing. Loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
⭐️⭐️⭐️I wanted to like this book more than I did. I love Amy Poehler and think she‘s hilarious. And I guess I wanted more humor in reading her book. There were some moments where I laughed out loud but the majority of the book was just ok.
Overall the book was fine and I read it in two days.
Completely unrelated to books, but I‘m really excited that the Town Board voted tonight to appoint me to the Parks and Rec Advisory Board for a 3 year term!
I‘ve been receiving Parks and Rec memes all night after the vote. 🤣☺️ I know there are a few fellow fans of the show here. 😁
