The Silent Patient
The Silent Patient | Alex Michaelides
Famous artist Alicia Berenson shoots her husband in the head five times, and then never speaks again. Five years later, Forensic psychotherapist Theo Faber must find a way to get Alicia to talk if he wants to treat her. Only then can he unravel the shocking events of that tragic night five years before... Sold in over 15 territories, and film rights snapped up by an Oscar winning production company, THE SILENT PATIENT is the most gripping thriller - with the single most shocking twist - of 2019.

I actually finished this one a couple of days ago, but I wasn‘t sure how I wanted to rate it. After some deliberation, I‘ve decided that this was a 3 ⭐️ read. “The Silent Patient” is a solid book with an intriguing premise, but I didn‘t enjoy it as much as I thought I would, and I found that it lacked a “wow” factor. The plot twist at the end was certainly interesting, but for some reason I felt like I needed something more from this book.

This is a slow burn🔥 There were a few times where I felt the book was about to reveal itself but it would pivot and keep its secrets just out of reach. When the twists finally came, I was 😲

An interesting read with a great plot twist at then end. Michaelides wrote the book from two primary perspectives and shifted easily between the male and female voices. Although the end was a great surprise, the beginning of the book was slow and there were points where the dialogue didn‘t ring true. The story would probably be better executed as a movie (can‘t believe those words just came out of my mouth!)

lele1432 I also think this would make a good movie! 3d

5/5 🌟

BRILLIANT. Absolutely brilliant.

Never, never would I ever guess the ending. One of the best psychological book I have ever read.
Everything was perfectly written and it felt so real. Everything made sense at the end. To the diagnosis, the characters past and present, all wrapped up in a perfectly tied bow.

This book was just what I needed to break out of a reading slump. Quick, interesting, and just enough twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Only issue for me was that the story seemed familiar. Like I had read something very similar before. The ending surprised me though, which is always good.🙂

Highly disappointed in this book. ☹️ I thought it started out with such promise, I was intrigued and wanted to know what was going to happen. But I‘m afraid the twist just didn‘t do it for me. It felt weak and not thought out. Meh.

I am really liking it so far. But I feel the part that makes me get out of the story is the whole psychotherapist using a lot of personal time to investigate her history of a patient.

I work in psych facilities. So, maybe I‘m just a bit too critical.

Suspenful, although there were some parts that were a little lagging. The ending was a little jumbled and a bit confusing, but I wasn't expecting the outcome.

Well, that was a letdown. I found the premise promising and was enticed by the snippets of Greek drama and mythology in the beginning, but I just didn‘t like it. Nothing was shocking, thrilling, or suspenseful. Interesting in places but overall just meh.

I think I might be done trying thrillers.

Ok, I‘m 2/3 through and am struggling to keep going. Thrillers aren‘t usually my cup of tea, but I‘m just not finding this particularly thrilling. Does it really pick up at the end? I‘m going to finish it, but I dob‘t have high hopes.

Rachel.Rencher The ending, in my opinion, was awful. It had so much potential and it felt like the author didn't know what to write anymore 1mo

The Silent Patient is a clever and compelling read. The author masterfully pieces together a mystery with a slow burning build that keeps the reader intrigued without revealing too much to soon. Lining up well developed character after character, each with their own sort of crazy, this one grabbed my attention from the start and kept me guessing right up to the explosive ending. This psychological thriller will really speak to you

I just barely started this one last night, so I‘m working on it now while the kiddo does her history reading (the Knights of the Round Table! I truly love homeschooling and sharing fun stuff like this).

I had a steroid shot this morning to help with the awful virus I‘m fighting (and losing), but the good news is it‘s NOT strep throat.

Now to see if Diomedes is the hero of the Trojan War or the wicked king of Heracles‘ labors.

4🌟 entirely because of the mind blown plot twist! 🤯 This is a psychological thriller about a psychotherapist and his patient who refuse to talk after she killed her husband. He is trying to know why she did it. Knocked off 1 star because it was hard to get into for the first few chapters. Have you read this? What are your thoughts? 💭

I just discovered Bookly yesterday and used it for the first time today. It's a pretty cool app. I'm definitely going to continue using the free version to see if it's something I want to keep using and upgrade to the Pro version. Anyone else using Bookly?

MrBook I‘ve used it for one book. My problem is in remembering to stop and start it. 😂👏🏻 1mo
jessinikkip I havent used it that I recall. If i have it was AGES ago. What kind of limitations are there on the free version? 1mo
bookladyreads @jessinikkip No iCloud support, no global stats, you can only add 10 books, they only give you one ambient sound to listen to, and you can't use the personal assistant or create graphic quote cards. The Pro version isn't that expensive, I still want to use it for a few more books before I decide to buy it or not. It's $29.99/yr, but right now you can get it 12 months for $19.99. 1mo
jessinikkip Thanks @bookladyreads !! I may check it out and try it 1mo
bookladyreads @jessinikkip I think it's worth a try. I do like the idea of being able to track books and pages read and seeing how long it takes me to complete books. It's also a nice little feature being able to listen to ambient sounds while reading. It almost seems like Goodreads should acquire Bookly because they are the perfect pairing. 1mo

About fireworks?
About love. About how often we mistake love for fireworks - for drama and dysfunction. But real love is very quiet, very still. It's boring, if seen from the perspective of high drama. Love is deep and calm-and constant. I imagine you do give Kathy love-in the true sense of the word. Whether or not she is capable of giving it back to you is another question.
