A People Magazine Pick * US Weekly Must Pick Named Best Book of the Summer by Glamour * Good Housekeeping * USA TODAY * Cosmopolitan * PopSugar * Working Mother * Bustle * Goodreads From the acclaimed author of Forever, Interrupted and After I Do comes a breathtaking new novel about a young woman whose fate hinges on the choice she makes after bumping into an old flame; in alternating chapters, we see two possible scenarios unfoldwith stunningly different results. At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six different cities and held countless meaningless jobs since graduating college. On the heels of leaving yet another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence in her best friend Gabbys guestroom. Shortly after getting back to town, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan. Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if shes ready to go. A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan? In concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop into radically different stories with large-scale consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her. As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: Is anything meant to be? How much in our life is determined by chance? And perhaps, most compellingly: Is there such a thing as a soul mate? Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she believes shes found him.

What an interesting book! We follow one woman as she lives her life making big decisions. We follow 2 paths based on those decisions. Which path is better? How different is her life with these decisions? I enjoyed this book and when I thought one path was better something happened to change my mind.

I started reading “Maybe In Another Life” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. So far it‘s not quite what I was hoping for. The romance between the protagonist & her love interest seems juvenile for characters who are supposed to be nearing their 30s. It lacks an emotional complexity that I was expecting. The dialogue seems more fitting for teens, however there was a surprise in the beginning that I did not see coming, so there‘s that! 📚 #maybeinanotherlife

I LOVE TJR novels and this one is wonderful. I can‘t fit my review in just 451 spaces, so the rest is in the comments!!! Book #44 in 2022

Allthebookclubs It‘s similar to the movie -Sliding Doors, one of my faves. 3mo
Allthebookclubs I love the characters and all of their quirks, the bold statements, their bravery in the face of hard decisions, and the unwavering support they offer. 3mo
Allthebookclubs This is a story about best friends, Hannah and Gabby. Yes, it‘s also about Hannah‘s life and how it turns out in two possible realms BUT it‘s truly about friendship and how sometimes we find true love in our best friend. 3mo
Allthebookclubs Your soul mate doesn‘t have to be your lover/spouse and that‘s my take away. 3mo

Book 78

I listened to Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I wasn't a fan of her interview-style books, but this was very engaging. Hannah moves back to LA and has dinner with friends. At the end of the night, she has to choose between going home with her best friend or her ex-boyfriend. The book proceeds with alternating chapters of two storylines, following the effects of each path. It was an enjoyable listen. 4 🌟s

7️⃣ I loved Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo, both by TJR, so far this one doesn‘t feel as dramatic as Evelyn Hugo but I do care about the main character and I am interested to see how things turn out. Once again, can‘t put it down, which seems to be a theme with TJR‘s books #taylorjenkinsreid #maybeinanotherlife #kindleread

“Maybe all of this time,” I say to Ethan, “I‘ve been looking for home and not realizing that home is where the cinnamon roll is.”
Ethan laughs. “I mean, if you‘re going to go all over the country looking for where you belong, I could have told you years ago you belong in front of a cinnamon roll.”

Apparently I‘m deep in to Taylor Jenkins Reid this month.

As always she does no wrong. This wasn‘t my favorite of hers because it took me a little time to get used to the timeline jumping but overall still very good.

Sliding Door plot where the story jumps between alternate timelines based on Hannah‘s decision on whether to go home with an ex one night or not. If the multiverse exists, how different are your lives? Are some things constant in each?
Didn‘t love this one as much as the last 2 books of hers that I‘ve read, just wasn‘t as invested in the characters, but still a good read.

Really interesting premise to this story. A look at how the results of a simple everyday decision can send your life down a different path. The story alternates between two possible parallel lives that unfold based on a decision that the main character makes about whether or not to go home with an old boyfriend she meets in a bar. This is lighter reading that deals with a contemplative topic. Good summer reading!🐚

I have enjoyed all of Reid‘s books that I have read so far, but this one was just meh. It is a take on Sliding Doors (when a characters life splits into concurrent storylines detailing two possible life paths). The payoff at the conclusion was a boost, but much of the story felt surface-y to me. I couldn‘t become invested in the characters. There wasn‘t enough depth.

What an interesting idea that there are an infinite number of universes being created with every decision you make. While I didn‘t love this one as much as some of her others, I still really enjoyed it. I really loved the alternating chapters and how everything plays out in the end. #bookspin #march

My takeaways: The writing in this book confused me, I had to constantly think which life she was in as the chapter transitions were awful. The main characters were the same in each life so it just added to the confusion. Yes, it ended up being a happy ending read in both of her lives and she declared that she wouldn‘t be any happier if destiny changed anything. I resonated really well with the above quote also! #books #bookreview #reading #reads

Out one night with her best friend she has to decide if she wants to go home with her ex-boyfriend or not. This story tells us what would happen in each of those realities. I‘ve loved everything else by TJR I‘ve read, but I found this really bland. It wasn‘t bad exactly. It was a short read that was engaging enough to keep me going to the end. But the only feeling I‘m left with is that it was a bit saccharine. If the author was trying to hit a profound note, it fell flat with me.

In fairness, I think I‘d build up high expectations because it was one of the library holds that took 6 months to come in. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jenkins Reid has become a favorite author. Hannah is fleeing NYC after a disastrous affair. She flys to LA where she grew up, and moves in temporarily with her best friend. When they attend a party where old schoolmates are gathering, she meets her high school flame. When she leaves she has a choice-go home with him or with her friend. The rest of the book explores these two options. Highly recommend!!

I love this author! All her books are so unique and fun (it‘s definitely not as good as Evelyn Hugo or Daisy Jones, but I still really enjoyed it). I love how she tosses between the outcomes of 2 separate possibilities based on one decision at one point in time. Really makes you think how different your life could be if you made ONE little choice differently.

Kaylamburson Yes!!! I loved this one and all TJR books. I couldn't decide which life I wanted for her to be real! 2y

Igor wasn‘t thrilled to be my late night model, but he tolerates me 😹.

Just a vague review since I read this for my #book4book group and I don‘t want to spoil the journal for the others.

This was a fun light read, with an interesting premise of following Hannah through two separate realities that split based one night‘s split decision.

I liked it and read it quickly. I didn‘t like it as much as Evelyn or Daisy though.
