I love Junji Ito. His stories are creepy and his artwork is phenomenal. These stories did not disappoint. Greased though…that was a whole other level. I legit felt a little nauseas reading it, and made the face the entire time. It was awesome.

An unsettling and creepy selection of nine stories of body horror. There isn't enough space to build up a lot of psychological tension in each tale, so Ito goes for shocks and grossness, on which he definitely delivers.
The Fashion Model and Grease were, I think, the best of a strong set.
All the trigger/content warnings ⚠️

dabbe Yikes! 😱 1mo
vivastory Grease...I shudder just thinking about it 🙀 1mo
Lauranahe Greased was horrific. I was grossed out the entire time. So good. 1mo
Bookwomble @vivastory @Lauranahe More than the body horror, it was the thought of the oily mattress that made my skin crawl 😬 1mo

#Shivers
The tagged volume is a selection of various Ito stories & contains quite possibly the grossest story I have ever read, “Glyceride.“
“I recognize terror as the finest emotion…and so I will try to terrorize the reader. But if I find I cannot terrify him/her, I will try to horrify; and if I find I cannot horrify, I‘ll go for the gross-out. I‘m not proud.”-King
Ito def. went for the gross-out.

Eggs 👏🏻😊👍🏼 10mo
ElizaMarie Ito is such a master! 10mo
vivastory @ElizaMarie Agreed! I picked up the following new volume at the library today 10mo

Junji Ito has long been on my list of horror authors to check out. Shiver did not disappoint as each story brought its own unique horror to the overall collection and the title was spot on as each tale was shiver inducing. #Scarathlon #TeamMonsterMash #31by31 #pointsathon #spookoween +211 pts

This was my first Junji Ito and I look forward to read more from them. Stories ranged from gross to strange. I like this book talked about the authors commentary about the origin of each story.

This collection of nine horror manga ranges from creeping ominous dread (like being hunted by an enormous balloon with your face, or dreams that seem to last for days, months, years) to total gross-out horror, like the above image where a brother squeezes the greasy pus out of his pimples onto his sister. Ugh. 🤢 Highly recommend if you are a fan of the horror genre.

Husband bought this book for me a couple days ago (ha all my posts were supposed to be from a “couple“ of days ago) part of it is that I have been having those contact issues.. I have to put them in and when I have them in I can't see. So early in the morning when I have my contacts still in I can update (ugh!)

Anyway, I am loving it so far :)

It was really good! Usually it‘s hard for me to pay attention while reading, but this book is a collection of short stories which was great and every story was very entertaining.

MissYaremcio Nicely done Kayden! I would have loved a bit more of the summary, but overall, not bad! 3.5/6 3y

3/6 ain't bad? Lol I liked the Orange and the Hollandsworth and am loving the Klune (got it in that wild Kindle sale so I'll finish it there!), and eventually I shall put another hold on the two Itos and the Forster so I can actually read them, but for now all of these must return to the library for quarantining and distributing. Farewell, sweet friends! #backtothelibraryyougo 📚

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks & N.E.W.T.s class Charms level 0 (last book in this class)-prompt-finite incantatem=reverse spell=read a manga. Horror manga.Loved all the short stories ideas, however, most ends were inconclusive with non sense to me. Love The Marionette Mansion story for the psychological aspects. The art was amazing, morbid & creepy, wait Did I say I Like it? 😳☺️Warning-suicide scene. Author explained where ideas came from👌 3⭐️

@Chrys your #SFMBC 📦 arrived.

Thanks so much for the comics & the Manga. Love them. ❤️

@Avanders & @ReadingRover I need to come clean. I messed up! I've been out of town and just got back yesterday. I meant to send the package out before I left and forgot. So, now It went out today. Soooo sorry it's so late in shipping. I feel horrible about it. Things have just been a mile a minute the past few weeks and... GAH. I apologize. 😟

A lot of Junji Ito's work hasn't been translated into English, but I was so happy to see this collected works at Barnes! It's a great assortment of his shorts, and really shows how artistic Japanese horror can be. I may post a shot of the artwork later! Recommended for all horror and psychological thriller fans :)

Well I could read for another hour, but I‘m tapping out. My brain is feeling a bit mushy. 😂

I ended the #readathon with Junji Ito‘s Shiver. It‘s a collection of 10 stories, including 1 that was previously unpublished. I wasn‘t a big fan of Dissolving Classroom and I thought Fragments of Horror was ok. I prefer his longer story arcs. However this collection was FANTASTIC! Viz Media once again put out an amazing hardcover of his work.

I‘m so excited for the #24in48 readathon! Here‘s the stack I‘m planning to pull from. I know I won‘t get through all of it, but I like variety. I stacked several novellas and short novels, manga, and a couple comic book volumes. I also have a couple audiobooks ready to go in case I have to multitask. I tallied 18.5 hours last time so I‘m aiming for 24 hours this time.

Have fun everyone! 😀

Varshitha Such amazing picks.. 6y
monalyisha I disliked “The Inn Between”... but I think I‘m in the minority. 🤷‍♀️ 6y
BekahB @Varshitha thanks! I tried to narrow down my stack but everything sounded good. 😆 6y
