A good day for reading a spooky book 📖💀 on my stoop, and making it very clear to my neighbors that I'm the one to go to in the event of a possession 👻 or alien invasion 👽🛸 I got them 💪

Really good. If you're a Stephen King fan you will enjoy Dan Simmons. Great #spookyreads for October.

Current autumn spooky reads.

By the way: do Americans go trick or treating and celebrate Halloween today, the Saturday before, because "it's really not so convenient on a school night" or is this just an English thing?

Aimeesue Most communities go trick or treating on the 31st, although there are a lot of Halloween parties on the weekend before, too. 9mo
xicanti In Canada, everybody goes on the 31st or not at all. I've always had the impression it's the same in the US. 9mo
cherinium It depends on where you live. In Ohio, where I grew up, each community would set a "Beggars Night" for trick or treating. They would even set the times--usually 6-8pm. It was never on the 31st. I was once told that it had something to do with trying to keep mischief to a minimum. Living in Missouri now and having friends from other states, I now know it is much more common for people to go out on the 31st. 9mo

Ye_Mighty_Andy_Spare Haha. Same for Bonfire Night. "Yeah, we'll remember, remember the fifth of November, but we're going to do our remembering on the third of November, thank you very much" 9mo
zsuzsanna_reads @cherinium I love the idea of calling it a beggar's night! 9mo
