In this entry to the series, Chambers somehow manages to take an alien species's sociological study of a subset of humans in space and turn it into something both cozy and compelling, even with a narrative that is more introspective than plot driven.

Overall, I was not entirely surprised to find this another beautiful, heartwarming, thought-provoking exploration of possibility. I've come to expect no less from the Wayfarer series!

Explore human culture after becoming a space faring species out of necessity for generations, and then a species split between planed and the ships wee survived on. A scifi slice of life: Another excellent read in this series exploring the many aspects of being human. I loved this as much as Chambers' other books. #scifi #SpaceColony

Not my favorite book in the series but it was a good read and enjoyable.

Becky Chambers has created an ethical utopia here, as far as I'm concerned. What with the recycling of human remains and the dignity shown to sex workers, this book is on point. It manages to come across as wholesome but with a lot of swearing and casual sex. It makes the people and the aliens both seem real.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can‘t myself giving less than 5 stars because of how these books make me feel. This one is no exception. I literally feel comforted by the Wayfarer series. It‘s true, this book has no action or actual plot, just a glimpse of the world humans have created in space amongst many different alien species through the eyes of 6 different characters. These books show humans evolving into something better💙

Highly recommend!

My March reading wrap up. I really enjoyed all of these, so picking a best of the month was almost a dice roll. The other 2 that I might have chosen are Moon of the Turning Leaves and Gory Details.

I love these books. Becky Chambers has a way with cozy scifi that fits right into my heart. (This is book 3 of her Wayfarer books.) I loved the career path of the caretakers, and the thought of composting our bodies as an after-death option.

Venkman is trying to lure me in to lay in the sun with him. It might work for a few minutes.

New favourite author unlocked. I was in awe of the worldbuilding in this book and profoundly moved throughout.

Chambers continues to prove herself one of my fave authors. Quiet, yet impactful. Interpersonal relationship forward and simultaneously stunning level of thought into how generations of humans on spaceships would live, thrive and manage changing times. Coming to expect a gut punch in books of this series. Best evidence for solarpunk ≠ utopia: it's not an end to problems, but a better outlook in seeking solutions. A source of hope.

I know everyone loves this series but I find it pretty uncompelling. Nicely written, granted, but I tend to drift off with so little mystery or action going on.

Book 3 of this series was also great, though not as good as book 2. Chambers weaves together several different narratives that all address, on some level, the unanswerable question : “what‘s the point?” This book is just lovely, and the whole series is a must for anyone who likes to chew on big ideas. So impressed.

May was a great reading month and I finally did get a #bookspinbingo!

This was just as lovely as the previous two books. This series is so heartwarming, despite the fact that this book started with thousands of deaths! I loved that the Exodan society‘s way of disposing of their dead was human composting! Magrat was curious about this book (or maybe just about the ice cream I was eating as I finished it). I enjoyed this but definitely not as much as the others in the Wayfarers series. It was much more like reading 5 separate short stories one chapter at a time than one whole book. It does raise interesting philosophical points, and I will be thinking about some of it for a while.

4 ⭐ This is barely a 4 stars for me, but the last half of the book edged it to four stars for me. I Becky Chambers Wayfarers series, but this is the weakest to me so far. I just had a hard time getting into the book at the beginning, and I think it would have been even harder for me if I wasn't listening to it on audio. 👇

Becky Chambers has quickly become 1of my favorite authors. This series of loosely connected books is excellent. Each is unique with rich characters all set in the same "world" of her vividly imagined space. Book 3 has less action than 1 & 2 but expands her vision of off earth life with a couple of intertwining stories. The book is still highly readable like a town drama but in space, a meditation of who and why we are.

Not as good as the first two in the series, I suppose, but I enjoyed the world-building and the characters a great deal. Earnest, in the best possible sense of the word. (I know cynicism is in fashion but we need more earnest writers.)

I love Becky chambers so much. The pace with her books is calm and this one particularly was slow (not necessarily in a bad way) for the first half. I was heavily invested in the second half though and the ending was incredible. I also find the ideas around how humans could be perceived by other life forms in space completely fascinating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

And that's my #BookSpin choice finished! Still not my favourite of the series, but I do appreciate Sawyer's journey a bit better this time -- and Kip's too.

Still planning on working on that middle line: I've started Exhalation, since it's a book club book in my guild on Habitica.

This is my least favourite of the series so far (haven't read the third book), even though it reliably makes me weepy much earlier in the book than the other two. (It's rare that anything makes me weepy, so Becky Chambers is doing something special here.) I think it's the characters... they just don't stick with me as much.

I'm not one for valentines day, but I could profess undying love to my heated blanket on this bitterly cold day.

1st read of the year! Majorly different from the previous two, since it splits more definitively into more stories to create more perspectives within a human centric community. Still as interesting, and the world building is still incredible.

The third installment in the Wayfarer universe and wonderful as always. Chambers has a way with weaving characters' stories together subtly. This one was set on the Exodan Fleet, exploring themes of tradition and belonging, finding your own corner of the universe to call home.

This is my least favorite book from this series so far. It barely mentioned the characters from the first book and had no connection to the characters from the second. It also returned to having multiple narrators, only about half of which had compelling storylines. While the writing was still good, I had a harder time caring about these characters.

Becky Chambers is so good at world building!
This novel follows the daily lives of the humans in the Exodus Fleet. The first Exodus Fleet left Earth when it was no longer habitable. Centuries later, their descendants make choices to leave for alien cities or stay in the carefully regulated environment of the ship. Over time, some stay and some go.
What does humanity mean to people who have never seen Earth and have always lived in the stars……..

These books are not for the reader who is looking for an exciting plot-driven novel. Instead it was a quiet glimpse into the everyday lives of the people on the Exodus Fleet and had some really beautiful musings on life, death and the meaning of it all. I have to be in the right mood for Becky Chambers' books, but they are just soooo good when I'm there.

Inadvertently spent the evening #audiocrafting - someone donated a TON of scrapbooking materials to my Little Free Library and told me to take what I wanted for myself/ my kids. I turned on the audiobook, intended to just start sorting and organizing... ended up making a bunch of bookmarks. At least I say I used them to make something for the library!

I enjoyed the continued worldbuilding of Exodans, but this one felt way less cohesive than the others in the series.

STOP MAKING ME CRY BECKY CHAMBERS!
I promised myself before I started this books that I wouldn't get attached to anyone or anything, like I did in the first two books because I knew exactly how it would end for me... but that failed within the first couple of chapters because I was super invested in all of them.
I adored this story; it gave me hope, made me feel at home, broke my heart and put it back together again.
Highly recommend!

I've been rereading Becky Chambers' Wayfarer series in anticipation of book 4 just out this month. Loving every moment of revisiting her Exodan world!

It‘s difficult to rate this trilogy. First one was amazing. I loved the characters and was looking forward to seeing them again in the second. I was disappointed that the story went another direction which made me rate it lower. This book went yet another direction and on its own merits was an okay book but was another disappointment for the series.

Here is a book I did finish a few months ago! The third book of the Wayfarer series---told from multiple perspectives. Probably my least favorite of the three--I absolutely adored Long Way to A Small Angry Planet and Closed and Common Orbit. I found this one highly enjoyable and related most to Eyas--who's work is highly meaningful but just doesn't bring her enough personal fulfillment. Highly recommend if you like SciFi
