Vision Vol. 1: Little Worse Than a Man
Vision Vol. 1: Little Worse Than a Man | Tom King
55 posts | 63 read | 55 to read
The Vision wants to be human, and what's more human than family? So he heads back to the beginning, to the laboratory where Ultron created him and molded him into a weapon. The place where he first rebelled against his given destiny and imagined that he could be more -that he could be a man. There, he builds them. A wife, Virginia. Two teenage twins, Viv and Vin. They look like him. They have his powers. They share his grandest ambition -or is that obsession? -the unrelenting need to be ordinary. Behold the Visions! COLLECTING: VISION 1-6

A great mini-series exploring Vision and his newly created synthezoid family. Never could've anticipated the twists this one was going to take, and it was so good. And the artwork is excellent. Just 4 synthezoids trying to fit into suburbia--until it all goes violently wrong.

This book was quite heartbreaking. I tagged it because today is my first cataract surgery. I‘m a little anxious, even though I know this surgery is very common and relatively minor. It‘s just the thought of someone touching my eyes that has me a little freaked out. I know I‘ll be fine though, and I‘m looking forward to improved vision.

TrishB Good luck 👍🏻 5y
Megabooks Good luck! I‘m sure everything will turn out well. My mom had it done last December. 5y
Cinfhen The payoff is worth the worry!!! Good luck today 💚 5y

Bklover Oh I had early onset cataracts and had surgery and it‘s WONDERFUL!!! You‘ll love it!! 5y
KathyWheeler @Bklover That‘s what one of my nieces said, but I‘m sitting here getting all anxious about anesthesia.😞 I‘ve never had a bad reaction to it, so I don‘t know what that‘s about. 5y
KathyWheeler Update: all done! I can see things with my right eye that I could previously only see with glasses. Since my left eye is the worst, I am really curious what my vision will be like after that one is done next Tuesday. Thanks for all the well-wishes and support! (edited) 5y
Bklover After I got my first one done I noticed that things were different colors in each eye. The eye that still had the cataract made things look more yellow that the eye that had been corrected. It was amazing! Not to mention how much better I could see! 5y
KathyWheeler @Bklover that‘s really interesting. I haven‘t noticed that, but right now I‘m having a difficult time reading because if I keep both eyes open, I can‘t read because it‘s all blurry, so I have to close one eye. Since my vision was corrected for distance, I‘ll need glasses to read, which was the case before. 5y
Bklover That‘s what I did too. (Got corrected for distance). The best part is reading glasses are so cheap. One thing I did get was prescription sunglasses that are bifocals with no prescription on top and my reading prescription on the bottom. Best money I spent! I used my insurance for the sunglasses and just by cheap readers. (edited) 5y
KathyWheeler @Bklover thanks for the advice. This is going to be very different for me. 5y

I wasn‘t grabbed by the immediate pitch for this series (Vision builds himself a family and tries to be normal in the suburbs of DC) but all the high praise I saw convinced me to give it a shot. SO WORTH IT YOU GUYS THIS VOLUME IS EXCELLENT. The inherent creepiness of the suburbs is cranked to 11 as the Visions struggle to define and achieve normalcy, plus the art is absolutely fantastic.

This was different than what I expected, but I still really liked it! It‘s actually quite thought-provoking and even though Vision is a part of Marvel and The Avengers it has little to do with that.

This was a lot better than I originally expected it to be. The Vision builds himself the perfect family with a wife and two kids and lives in the suburbs. His ultimate goal is to live a normal life. What comes after is a story of keeping up appearances and the darkness that lingers underneath that. This is kind of slow paced and not really action packed, but more of a psychological tense story about prejudices and otherness.

Ohhh, this was good. (Side note: I‘ve never been disappointed by a recommendation from the great staff at Chicago Comics and this was no exception.) Like the back of the book says, The Vision just wants to be human and, above all, normal. So he makes a family — wife, son and daughter. They settle in the suburbs where things soon start to go wrong — it‘s hard work being normal. Things get really dark quickly. A fun but also thought provoking read.

Finally got around to finishing this. I didn‘t know anything about The Vision prior to reading this volume. I feel like I would have enjoyed it more if I had known more of his history. It‘s a good beginning to a series, not a ton of details nothing gets wrapped up in the end, it leaves you wanting more. For me though not knowing history of The Vision character I‘m not going to continue reading. It‘s hard to pick between pick and so-so.

Librariana @Cinfhen - I agree, Cindy. I'm not quite done with the graphic novel just yet, but this first couple of issues in this trade paperback gave me a very melancholy feeling. The storyline of a new family not being welcomed because they're "different" is unfortunately a little too similar to what we see in the news. 7y

I was surprised by how much I liked this. I'm not typically into superhero comics, and I don't know any of the backstory or previous iterations of the Vision, but I didn't feel lost. Ultimately it's a story about love, marriage and family. It's about the absurdities of them, and how they are magnified dangerously in superbeings. This is my #V pick for #LitsyAtoZ.

4/5 This is my first foray into Marvel comics and I enjoyed it (George and Nora LOL) though I think i wasn't able to appreciate it as much as someone that reads a ton of Marvel and knows a lot about the other characters/heros featured and mentioned and the history of the Avengers. I usually stick to Vertigo and Image since they have many stand alone series so I won't have that problem but the Marvel movies have peaked my interest in their comics.

Grimlock Great choice for a first Marvel read. 7y
angieranck Thanks, besides the second vol of Vision I plan on reading Infinity Gauntlet or Marvel 1602 next since I own them. Hoping they are just as good. 7y
Grimlock Sweet! The last issue of Vision and the last issue of the second volume is coming out next month. It's killing me that I suspect where this is going. Different writer, but Viv will continue on in The Champions and Vision will continue on in the new version of Avengers. I can't remember what his title will be called now that they have like six different Avenger titles out :/ 7y

Love, love, love! This has everything I could want: subtle creepiness, a robot family with children and THAT seduction scene! It's clever, it's an exploration of the human condition via those who aren't quite human, and I got so much more reread info this. I have two further rereads planned for the near future, and I plan on letting the finale settle in a month, then binging on the whole series. I renounce DC for stealing King away, too.

I'm getting a lot more from this on reread. I'm more able to fully process because I'm not reading a month at a time do I can see direct correlations between scenes that I was reading up to six months apart at the first go.
