Ready Player One: A Novel
Ready Player One: A Novel | Ernest Cline
In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.    But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

jmtrivera @Megabooks No way, not dumb! Easter eggs are secrets hidden inside video games or films for fans to find. In the book, the creator of the virtual reality Oasis leaves his company to whomever can find all the Easter eggs he's hidden in the game. 2w

One of the most enjoyable books I have read in a long time. It tapped into my geeky/nerdy side as well as really making me think. A great read!

Theaelizabet I had fun with this one, too. Never got around to seeing the film. I heard it was ok, but not as good as the book. I suppose I‘ll eventually stream it. 3w
YeezyTaughtMe Yeah I‘m not particularly bothered to see the film. I‘m sure I will but I really don‘t think it will do it justice on this one. 3w
Swe_Eva I recently saw the film and it is quite different, so if you want to watch it, wait until you've forgotten the book details and then pretend they're not related. 😁 3w

Really good book to binge read.

I saw the movie first and I‘m still shocked how different the book is. Not too mad though, because it‘s like a new (and better) adventure!

I‘m such a big fan of 70s and 80 sci-fi/fantasy/video game artwork like this...and y‘all know I geeked out at all the sci-fi references in this book.

I‘m growing increasingly convinced that the OASIS could solve a lot of problems on Earth such as decreasing space and decreasing resources. However, I also think the OASIS could eventually erode the human brain starting at the visual pathway and emotional intelligence. I think I need to join a book club.

I finally finished this yesterday. It still received 4/5✨ from me. Probably would've been a perfect score except my eyes kept glazing with all the coding, programming, and system jargon. And I get that it's all a huge part of the book, but for those of us that aren't tech minded it went way over my head. Here is another to add to the list of #betterthanthemovie and I really liked the movie!

I really enjoyed this book, I couldn't put it down. I liked the fact there were strong female characters especially when gamers are mostly seen to be men. This book really made me think about the way society is heading with its reliance on technology and its lack of interest on the impact we have had to our planet. Highly recommended this book.

Can't tell if I'm reading a novel or a very detailed video game manual. I love the actual storyline, but I'm finding all the over detailing of each video game a little tedious.

QueenJen For those of us who grew up in the 80s these descriptions are nostalgic! 😉🥃🕹 2mo
WhatThePuck @QueenJen what counts as growing up in the 80's? It wasn't until recently that I stopped being considered part of the Gen X crew. My eyes just tend to glaze with all the system formatting jargon. 😵🙃 2mo
QueenJen @WhatThePuck I'm probably off the mark then. I enjoyed this book so much for all the obvious geeky reasons. A Lot! It's one I recommend for those that like this genre or gamers who'd be in to the nostalgia. 2mo

WhatThePuck @BooknerdsLife I just act like those sentences don't exist cuz I they aren't worth my time. 😂 I didn't explain it well in my blurb, but it's really just when he starts talking about programming video games or the software. So after waiting this long to see the movie, I have to admit I‘m a little disappointed. I knew going into it that it wouldn‘t be ‘exactly‘ like the book, given just how detailed the book was and the limited amount of time the movie had to make it happen... BUT I do think the movie was made with a very simple-minded audience in mind; and sadly most of the genius plot twists that I loved about the book were lost in the process. Read the book, guys!

What a trip down memory lane; so much 80's Pop Culture. Fictional Future is fascinating e.g.,libraries. Also very scary what our world could turn into. People starving, others hiding out in OASIS & greedy Corporations running amok. IOI is Payday Loans of the Future, on steroids. World building is amazing but big chunk of the book. Takes ages to get to actual plot. Pages and Pages of descriptions of Video Games Movies. More in comments.⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig I've never found watching someone playing Pac-Man interesting much less reading someone playing Pac-Man. Switched between Library Print & my Audible copy. Wil Wheaton narrating is genius idea, especially when he's referenced in book. Drawbacks of audio is the Scoreboard. Everytime it's mentioned you get the Top Ten. In Print you can scan & move on. Audio you listen to it being read over & over. Not even Wil Wheaton can make that interesting. 3mo

So I read the book last year and loved it, easely one of my all times favorite books. So when the movie came out I didn't see it, because I was sure I would be disappointed. So this week I saw it on Netflix and the first part I was like "this is not that bad, I actually think it's good" but the last part made me so disappointed ? whyyyy

Callemarie My boyfriend hated it... but I went into it telling myself that there was only so much Spielberg would.be able to do with that massive world. And Cline did write the script as well.. so I was disappointed that they changed up how they found the keys... I dunno I liked it overall 4mo
