This book almost feels like 2 separate stories. In the 1st part, I found myself tiring easily, but later the book began moving faster for me b/c it became more character oriented. Still not a lot happens & the characters, despite being interesting, make frustrating choices. I found myself really interested by the ideas of the mythology & frustrated that I wasn't getting a clearer picture of it all. Still considering the next volume.

Oh wow, what a fantastical read. I really enjoyed this story. Set in Egypt & the Middle East you follow Nahri through her journey to find out her origins in the world of Daeva/Djinn. There is magic, action, adventure and unrequited love. The next instalment needs to be read now!

Phew. That took me a while! Anyhow, I really liked this and I‘m excited to read the next book. I‘ve been really getting into fantasy novels recently because I love how it transports me to another world. I love Nahri and I love how ballsy and strong she is. It‘s lovely to have a novel where a woman is shown as a strong individual who doesn‘t need anybody‘s help. Loved it❤️ (also kind of fell in love with Dara)😶

Both surprising and enjoyable.

This historical fantasy is full of in-depth world-building, (which I think I‘m still wrapping my head around) interesting characters, and some political and social elements that still ring true today. I‘m excited to talk about it on this month‘s @EclecticReaders podcast episode and definitely looking forward to reading the next book soon!

That's more like it! This book is much more up my street, there is far off lands, folklore, magic and a strong female lead. The City Of Brass has got me hooked so I'm snuggled under a blanket hiding from the rain and an impending Monday morning with my nose stuck in a book 🤓📚📖😁

I'm a little bit late, but here are my #SeptemberReads! I also tagged The City of Brass because I read most of that in September even though I finished it yesterday. You'll notice this final version looks nothing like my September TBR. I received my Kopp Sisters ebook ARC and threw over everything else I wanted to read. It was a good decision!

Rereading this and enjoying it even more the second time around. I‘m actually annotating in it which is something I never do but a friend of mine started circulating her copy and I‘ve been highly entertained by the commentary and this has been fun.

Love, love, love. It‘s taking everything in me not to run to Barnes & Noble to buy the next book (I want to support my local bookstore, which is closed.) Patience is a virtue. This week was a little bit of a blur. I‘ve now realized I need a better tracking system for my goals. I‘m working on finishing this book (hopefully today) and working on an audiobook as well. Last week the cover for Empire of Gold was revealed and now I‘m (im)patiently waiting for January so I can get my hands on the final instalment of this series!

I finished the last 200 pages in less than 24 hrs - 2x my usual reading quota for the day and a ringing endorsement to boot.

If you enjoy the settings of The 1,001 Nights or Aladdin, but with lots of political intrigue, history, and modern sensibilities, give this one a shot. Bonus: if you have some basic knowledge of Arabic, you'll get some fun jokes, too.

After breakfast on the weekend, Momo helps me with my reading. She thinks this one's kind of a snooze-fest, but I disagree.

I bought the second before I finished this one!!

This book took a while to grab me. However, once it did I found myself enjoying the story. I‘m ready for the second installment 😊

I struggled a bit with this book, as it is fantasy rooted in Muslim history/lore (a fairly unfamiliar topic). At the same time, I loved this book for the exact same reasons. The beginning was pretty slow for me. It could have been me struggling to keep up with so many unfamiliar words/names/language, but I feel the plot was also lacking early on. Half way through, I was more invested. I did audio, which helped with pronunciations. 🌟🌟🌟

Audiobook and a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Current fiction read 😀

Wow! Reading along, I was all “this is a solid 4 star read” I get to the last couple hundred pages and here I am 2 hours past when I usually fall asleep, having just finished a great 5 star book. I have a ridiculous stack of books from the library and I‘m sorely tempted to jump straight into kingdom of copper right now. Alas, sleep and responsibilities.

I wanted to get a good start on this before I officially committed to reading it. Nearly 100 pages in and I‘m ready to say I am definitely planning on finishing this, barring some bizarre turn-around that ruins the story. Very interesting word building so far, especially since I‘m unfamiliar with the folklore/mythology/culture that is the inspiration behind this story.

Had to stop at Barnes and Noble (which is at the halfway point on a 3 1/2 hour drive home from visiting family) and treat myself. I am so looking forward to reading this. My TBR is seriously out of control though. I could not buy another book for like three or four years and not run out of reading material. Lol. Oh well, they all spark joy!
