Thanks for the tag @Cinfhen 😘 #7days7covers #covercrush #day1 #audibookcovers
I‘m choosing 7 audiobook covers I love over the next 7 days, no explanation. I‘m tagging @Meaw_catlady if you haven‘t joined/want to. (You don‘t have to do audiobooks, any book is okay.)
Rereading this and enjoying it even more the second time around. I‘m actually annotating in it which is something I never do but a friend of mine started circulating her copy and I‘ve been highly entertained by the commentary and this has been fun.
Love, love, love. It‘s taking everything in me not to run to Barnes & Noble to buy the next book (I want to support my local bookstore, which is closed.) Patience is a virtue. While I was slightly confused with all of the different names to start, I just couldn‘t put it down! Please note, there‘s a glossary in the back. I loved the magic, the characters& the intense, multiple story lines . #booked2019 #muslimauthor #newyearwhodis
This week was a little bit of a blur. I‘ve now realized I need a better tracking system for my goals. I‘m working on finishing this book (hopefully today) and working on an audiobook as well. I‘m really happy with getting my three workouts in. I‘m on call this week and it an be challenging to complete workouts, but I did it! Here‘s to starting strong for next week! #bfcr3 #smallsteppers
I finished the last 200 pages in less than 24 hrs - 2x my usual reading quota for the day and a ringing endorsement to boot.
If you enjoy the settings of The 1,001 Nights or Aladdin, but with lots of political intrigue, history, and modern sensibilities, give this one a shot. Bonus: if you have some basic knowledge of Arabic, you'll get some fun jokes, too.
okay, this last year has been a whirlwind- graduating and then trying to balance a full time job (at a bookstore!!!) with the rest of my life has been something else. i haven‘t been on here as much as I want to be, but i got some exciting news i wanted to share: i got into my grad program and will be starting my Masters in Library and Information Sciences in September! Future #litsylibrarian coming your way 😁
I struggled a bit with this book, as it is fantasy rooted in Muslim history/lore (a fairly unfamiliar topic). At the same time, I loved this book for the exact same reasons. The beginning was pretty slow for me. It could have been me struggling to keep up with so many unfamiliar words/names/language, but I feel the plot was also lacking early on. Half way through, I was more invested. I did audio, which helped with pronunciations. 🌟🌟🌟
Wow! Reading along, I was all “this is a solid 4 star read” I get to the last couple hundred pages and here I am 2 hours past when I usually fall asleep, having just finished a great 5 star book. I have a ridiculous stack of books from the library and I‘m sorely tempted to jump straight into kingdom of copper right now. Alas, sleep and responsibilities.
I wanted to get a good start on this before I officially committed to reading it. Nearly 100 pages in and I‘m ready to say I am definitely planning on finishing this, barring some bizarre turn-around that ruins the story. Very interesting word building so far, especially since I‘m unfamiliar with the folklore/mythology/culture that is the inspiration behind this story.
Had to stop at Barnes and Noble (which is at the halfway point on a 3 1/2 hour drive home from visiting family) and treat myself. I am so looking forward to reading this. My TBR is seriously out of control though. I could not buy another book for like three or four years and not run out of reading material. Lol. Oh well, they all spark joy!
Thank you @BethM for such a wonderful swap!!! The books are great- City of Brass and Court of Thorns were on my radar- and the other two look so good. And flavored coffee (my favorite), a paperback book case which I‘ve never seen before! And the other goodies.....just a fabulous swap. Thank you again. 😘

Started this on top of many other open books. Figured I needed a change and this audiobook provides it by both genre and voice. And it is perfect from the first "page"! Thanks Litsy for bringing this book my way. (Also what even possessed me to think I was cured of reading more than one at the same time?)
One of my favorites read this year so far!
The world is so interesting. The politics and history makes the story even better, richer. The characters were unique and each one of them bring something special to the story. Very easy to read and to understand. This book has definitely lock me up into it's world.
Muslim-inspired high fantasy with a lot of worldbuilding and a focus on the complex political squabbles between the various djinn tribes.
Nahri is an orphan who has used her wits and her gift for healing to survive on her own in 18th century Cairo. She is a skilled con woman who gleefully steals from noblemen who cross her path. When she accidentally summons a powerful djinn, her life will never be the same.
Bailing on this book was SO hard. I kept being in denial over needing to bail, but after 170 pages, (and a week & a half of setting it aside to ‘revisit‘), I need to bail and move on. I don‘t know WHY, the writing is great and the world is fascinating. It seems like it‘s exactly up my alley. However, I keep SLUDGING through it. Like, 8 pages in 20 minutes, which is WEIRD. Maybe it‘s the pacing? I don‘t know. I‘m so confused 😢😢😢
