My Best Friend's Exorcism
My Best Friend's Exorcism: A Novel | Grady Hendrix
Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fifth grade, when they bonded over a shared love of E.T., roller-skating parties, and scratch-and-sniff stickers. But when they arrive at high school, things change. Gretchen begins to act . . . different. And as the strange coincidences and bizarre behavior start to pile up, Abby realizes theres only one possible explanation: Gretchen, her favorite person in the world, has a demon living inside her. And Abby is not about to let anyone or anything come between her and her best friend. With help from some unlikely allies, Abby embarks on a quest to save Gretchen. But is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?

4.5 ⭐ for me on this one just because I couldn't put it down. Stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it last night and am paying the price today but totally worth it. There were some super creepy parts but was also a wonderful story of friendship between two girls growing up in the 80's. The throwbacks were alot of fun and would definitely reccomend.

Caroline2 I really enjoyed this one too. 💖 2w

This has all the makings of an 80s horror film with the added bonus of song lyrics and titles included through the book. The plot itself was interesting and the ending was a really good way to end the book. First book finished for #MrBook1inaMillion #litsypartyofone #24B4Monday

I really needed a light funny book to read after finishing Imaginary Friend and this book worked wonderfully.

While I found this story funny and I loved how all the chapters were 80s songs but I really didn‘t like the whole black face and slavery thing. I know this is a book and it‘s not suppose to be taken seriously but that just left a bad taste. I thought this would be that campy horror humor sorry like HorrorStor but it wasn‘t.

It‘s spirit week in a religious high school and the ywar is 1988. Apparently black face and slave day were ok back then.

So, i'm not into scary but even i want to join in on a little spooky halloween fun. This was an interesting read but did not make me jump at every noise my old house makes! I spent most of the story worried about the MC and the trouble she was getting into. Second book I've read by the author and i look forward to more. Creative stories that are filled with the unexpected.

I had pretty low expectations going in given the title and pulpy looking cover (which I also think is awesome btw) but this was actually really good! So well written; it‘s one of those books you don‘t even realise you‘re reading you‘re just completely immersed in the 80s with these girls. I loved it! 👍 #scarathlon #scaryscavengerhunt (exorcism) #teamstoker

Wow, this is a silly, heartfelt, nostalgic horror comedy filled with Aussie hair spray, Bartles and James wine coolers, those problematic 80s, Satanic Panic and the power of human connections (and throughout I was hearing whispers of Def Leppard). I‘m cutting my teeth here on reviews and since we‘re in the time of burn the witch who spoils I‘m leaving y‘all with 2 factoids. I read it in like a day and a half and it made me ugly cry. Read it.

I'd try not bail on this, but 😝 the dirty words and deeds get a little too gross for my taste in pumpkin ale .. The book cover is cute, but I'm finding the 80's horror flick theme, overly around the rebellious teen misadventures 🙄 Maybe it's just my October feeling, currently looking for something else .. I'll retry this book again another time for thoughts.

A darkly farcical journey into teenage drama and the 1980s "War on Drugs" and other vehicles of evil. The book has that tongue-in-cheek "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" feel to it, if you find the idea of teenage demonic possession and 80s satanic paranoia funny (I do). It might be a bit too dark for some. It gets into the intense drama of teenage relationships in a realistic way. High School was a bit like an exorcism for me too.

Megabooks Loved this book! 3mo
petersonks15 I decided to skip this read, mostly because I haven‘t really read anything since school began and idk that I can handle reading anything dark right now. #teacherexhaustion 3mo

I had listened to some Books on Tape as a kid, but it wasn‘t until I got #BehindtheWheel for an hour-a-day commute that I really appreciated audiobooks. The first book I tried on Audible was the tagged book, and I was hooked!

Kaye Another audiobook fan too. I almost exclusively listen to them. Once in awhile I still read print books but very seldom. 7mo
Megabooks @Birdsong28 They totally are!! 7mo
Megabooks @toofondofbooks @MrBook asked the other day what you do while listening to audiobooks, and I‘m all, “What don‘t I do?” 😂😂 7mo
Megabooks @Kaye 👍🏻👍🏻 I did it nearly constantly when I lived alone. I just had my speaker, and if I was cooking, it was in the kitchen, etc. Now that I‘m living with people, I read more ebooks, but I love still love audio! Plus, I do love it on walks. I wish my foot had allowed me to do Litsy walkers because audiobooks make taking walks even better. 7mo
Kaye I‘m home alone most of the time so I listen to mine a lot. At first, I had a hard time getting used to them, then I was reading about half and half... now it‘s about 90% audiobooks. I‘m not sure if that‘s a good or bad thing. In a way, I feel like I‘m getting lazy because I‘d rather have someone else read to me 😊 , but I get so much more out of audio. Not only do you get to hear a book, but an excellent narrator adds more color to the story. 7mo
Crazeedi I would really like to get into audio, I've tried twice and it was not that great 7mo
Megabooks @Kaye For me, reading in print comes more naturally. I have to concentrate more to understand audiobooks, so I feel like it counts double. Not really lol! But I think that‘s why it took me awhile to get into them @Crazeedi . Plus the narrator makes a huge difference!! 7mo
MrBook 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 7mo
Crazeedi @Megabooks I've heard the narrator makes the difference, I guess I just haven't listened to the right narrator yet. I'm going to try again, cause I'll be outside a lot and it would be so convenient 7mo
Megabooks @MrBook 😊😊😊👍🏻🎉 7mo
Megabooks @Crazeedi Here are some of my fav narrators: Therese Plummer, Cassandra Campbell, Emily Woo Zeller, Dion Graham, Bahni Turpin, Tavia Gilbert, David Sedaris, Kirby Heyborne, Julia Whelan - you can probably tell I like mainly women with American accents, but I love it when people post to Litsy asking about narrators because there are always new ones to find! 💕🎧 (edited) 7mo
Cinfhen I agree @Crazeedi a narrator makes a HUGE difference. I also found NF or memoirs are really more interesting to listen to. I recommend a book of essays to get started because you can dip in and out. This one was hilarious 7mo

#MarchIntoThe70s #Day29 #SchoolsOut Alice Cooper always fascinated me,his showmanship & persona combined with a girls name gave him a “I‘ll be who I damn well please” aura which I totally was onboard with. This book, set in the 80s not the 70s,also has a touch of that vibe, about two friends in junior year at school. After a night of LSD,one disappears before turning up next day acting strange. By the end of the year Abby is convinced she‘s possessed.

I‘ve read a number of books in 2019 that I have enjoyed, but this is my favorite for the year so far. I loved it. It had a definite Stranger Things vibe to it (hence my Funkos...). I loved all of the 80s references, the humor, and also the fact that it had aspects of old school horror, but nothing that would cause nightmares. This was a lot of fun!

Amazing! From the neon drenched, mall cruising, pop song first half, where we meet these high school friends and follow them around typical ‘80‘s life, fun and endearing -through the brutal climax; this is a masterclass in managing tone. Like a rollercoaster gearing up to the first drop, you‘re enjoying the levity of their friendship and youthful indiscretions, until you realize, very slowly, you‘re at the precipice of horror and not ready for it.
