The Twelve Clues of Christmas
The Twelve Clues of Christmas: A Royal Sypness Mystery | Rhys Bowen
34 posts | 52 read | 27 to read
She may be thirty-fifth in line for the throne, but Lady Georgiana Rannoch cannot wait to ring in the New Yearbefore a Christmas killer wrings another neck On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to mewell, actually, my true love, Darcy OMara, is spending a feliz navidad tramping around South America. Meanwhile Mummy is holed up in a tiny village called Tiddleton-under-Lovey with that droll Noel Coward! And Im snowed in at Castle Rannoch with my bumbling brother, Binky, and sourpuss sister-in-law, Fig. So its a miracle when I contrive to land a position as hostess to a posh holiday party in Tiddleton. The village is like something out of A Christmas Carol! But no sooner have I arrived than a neighborhood nuisance, a fellow named Freddie, falls out of a tree dead. On my second day, another so-called accident results in a death and theres yet another on my third. Perhaps a recent prison break could have something to do with itthat, or a long-standing witchs curse. But after Darcy shows up beneath the mistletoe, anything could be possible in this wicked wonderland. Includes an English Christmas companion, full of holiday recipes, games, and more!

My 2022 holiday-themed books. My favorite was the tagged book. It was very clever. I also enjoyed Let it Snow, which reminded me a little of Marian Keyes, and The Holiday Switch, which is a YA about living in a Hallmark town. Christmas Cookie Murder was a good cozy, and Blame it on the Mistletoe was a YA version of The Holiday. Christmas at the Palace was ok but not really about Christmas until the end. My re-reads of two classics were fun.

I haven't read this series so that may be why I didn't enjoy it much. It was very slow to start with, not much was going on and then it felt a bit rushed.

Decent enough 1930s cosy mystery.

What a wild ride this Royal Spyness Mystery is!Penniless Georgiana is stuck in the family castle with her brother, her penny pinching, disapproving, resentful sister-in-law, & their children. In order to escape this situation, she answers an ad for an assistant hostess for a country Christmas party. What transpires is a ghastly set of “accidents”that stump all.Add romance, social commentary, humor& mystery & you have a riveting story. #winterreadathon

Funny how Kindle and physical books finish at the same time…I loved this book! Written tongue in cheek, it furnished many snickers. Lady Georgianna can‘t abide the thought of spending Christmas with her ruthless sister-in-law and all that woman‘s extended family. However, Georgie is penniless. She discovers an advertisement for a social director and heads to a small village to help the local noble family. Murder happens.

I gave one of my favorite Royal Spyness books a re-listen and enjoyed it just as much as before. This one has very cozy Agatha Christie vibes and I love the setting. Perfect for Christmas! 5⭐️

This is one of my favorites in the series and it holds up well the 2nd time around. The audiobook is excellent and I plan on listening to it again around Christmastime. I highly recommend this series, especially the audiobooks! 5⭐️

BethM Can it be read out of order? 4y
JenlovesJT47 @BethM it can, although of course it‘s better if you know the background of the characters. But this one especially could be read out of order imo because it‘s a good book to read at Christmastime and will just make you want to read more of the series! I‘d highly recommend book 1 on audiobook. The narrator was awesome! 4y

I‘ll be starting this fun Christmas mystery today - it‘s listed as the 6th in the series, but I understand these can be read as standalones. Any of you a fan of this mystery series by Rhys Bowen? Of course, I‘ll have one or two of these Limited Edition Lindt Peppermint White Chocolate Truffles as a reading treat. I‘m not usually a white chocolate fan, but these are so peppermint-y and delicious, I do indulge and buy them each year.

BookishMarginalia What a lovely #bookpic! 4y

Stuck between a pick and a so-so for this one. It's a decent cosy but nothing particularly earth-shattering; not my usual genre, but I really needed something to bolster my Christmas spirit, and this helped. It was kind of like mashed potatoes -somewhat bland but quite comforting. I could imagine reading more in the series when in the same mood.

I loved this and look forward to reading it again around Christmastime, as I‘m sure it would be even more enjoyable then. This one has a high body count and an interesting conclusion. I don‘t want to give away spoilers but I would highly recommend this series! What are some other good historical fiction murder mystery series? (Besides the awesome Phryne Fisher, who is my fave!) 5⭐️

Rainy Sunday morning, tucked up in bed with cup of Scottish Breakfast Tea is perfect for finishing this. I really enjoy this series when I need a #comfortread. Love Georgies plucky nature and Dashing Darcy. My only complaint is I quickly tire of inept maid Queenie. Especially the whole ruining Georgie's clothes and then pulling a sad face and making Georgie feel guilty.
