Definitely a classic of science fiction. It can be frustrating to get through some of the long lists of fish or the overly precise coordinates given and the action is a little underwhelming. However there is a sense of adventurous travel and camaraderie with the characters that make the book endearing by the end.

I found those great scarves perfect to show your bookworm style every where : the white one has a quote from pride and prejudice on it (about the need of libraries) and the blue one a quote from twenty thousand leagues under the sea (about the sea). My two loves books and the sea. Found them on literati club :)
And only here am I really sure people will understand the joy of it :)

Well... you could say I‘m disappointed. Zoophytes, cetacea, sturgeons, oxyrhynchi-blah blah blah! The story was told from the perspective of a scientist, but man, he droned on and on and on about fauna for ongoing paragraphs, which lead to pages. It felt more like homework than an engaging novel. Did I still like premise? Yes. Were the characters interesting and unique? Yes. Was the book super boring and wouldn‘t end? ABSOLUTELY.

“We now come to the second part of the journey under the sea.” Adventure books are some of the most intriguing reads! I especially love ones that talk to you, almost as if they are self-aware they wrote a book about said adventures. It makes it feel so lively and real.

I forgot to post about the new book I‘m reading! Jules Verne is someone so close to my heart and simultaneously, someone I‘ve never knew. (I watched Around the World in 80 Days + Journey to the Center of the Earth without knowing it was a book by this man).

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

I‘m thinking of a TV show and it is Octonauts!

I‘d like to be under the sea in an octopus‘s garden... I know, I know, it‘s really a squid.

Too much digression, scientific listing, and math. Plot is either nonexistent or doesn't begin until halfway through the book. Disappointed :(

Throughout most of the book I felt I was just reading stats. It wasn‘t until I got more towards the end of the book that it got exciting. It also got me to thinking if Captain Nemo was such a bad guy. To me wanting to escape your troubles by living in a submarine, doesn‘t sound so bad.⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nothing beats listening to the last few chapters of 20,000 Leagues under the Sea while walking on the beach & hearing waves crashing in the background. Compared to Moby Dick, this one is more engaging, but just as riddled with detail. It has a looooong list of every sea creature encountered, including its genus, species, phylum & whatnot. Finishing these 2 lengthy seafaring classics should (at least) earn the reader a Mariner‘s license! 🤪

Thank you everyone for making this the best community 😊

I‘ve noticed that people tend to host a giveaway when they reach an even number. I‘m not going to do that, just the shipping costs alone should kill my budget

As a huge Jules Verne fan it's no surprise that I loved every second of this book. Summed up simply this is another mesmerising adventure by the French genius!

I'll be continuing my adventure overland now though! A few days in the Nautillus is enough to put me off sea travel for now at least 😉

Next stop is Spain with Court of Lions by Jane Johnson ❤🧡💛
