I don‘t know if it‘s Maggie Gyllenaal or the story but I can go no further. With 25h 39m to go, I‘m throwing in the towel (for now). This is going on the #DNF pile of maybe, I‘ll come back to it. #audio #christyread #audible

SRWCF Bummer! I loved the book when I read it. 3w
marleed I almost picked up this book thrifting last week, but decided I didn‘t want to put that reading pressure on myself when Dr Zhivago still sits unread on my shelves! 3w
Christyco125 @SRWCF I may give it another shot either as a physical book or with a different voice actor. This one just dragged on. 3w
SRWCF @Christyco125 I can see how this book could be boring as an audio book. It wasn't an easy read for me. Before starting the book, I went online and found a list of characters in order to keep them straight since I wasn't familiar with Russian names. I printed out the list and kept it with me at all times. I think that helped me to follow the story better. I hope you give it another chance. 🙂 3w
DivineDiana Agree with @SRWCF. I also had a printed list of characters. The book is wonderful! I hope you give it another chance in print! 2w

Walking away from my October #doublespin with a #dnf - a rarity for me. I‘m not enjoying it and am just trying to power through. Time to just walk away at (just under) the halfway mark.

EvieBee Good choice. I powered through and it was totes disturbing. I have a high tolerance so that‘s saying something. 2mo
JackOBotts @EvieBee thanks! I definitely have that high tolerance, as well…and I‘m interested in Elizabeth Short and the mystery surrounding her tragic death. I can put my finger on it…I guess the cops are what got under my skin… 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo
EvieBee @JackOBotts Totally. I didn‘t finish this one but it was on the right track. Not sure if you‘ve read it. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Some books just aren't the right match! 2mo
JackOBotts Thanks, @EvieBee - I‘ll have to check it out! 2mo

Continuation of my earlier post - I love the narrator's voice, however it does not match or do this novel justice. It quickly becomes monotonous & bland.

I also don't care for any of the characters, which is intentional & most of the time I can look past those flaws.

I've seen so many mixed reviews about this book, some stating it's a fantastic read and others saying it's a waste of time.
Has anyone else read this one?

I'm really struggling with this book. The audio version is just awful. This is the first book in several years where I'm considering not finishing. I'm about 2 hours in and listening to this is making me tense and slightly irritable.

When dialogue is made up of "he said," "she said" and "they said," over and over again, I can't really enjoy any of the story.

Pt. 1

SamAnne I loved his one until the end. I really dislike narrative written from a children‘s perspective. I DNFd the last 30 pages. 4mo
Teresereading I only got about half way through.... 4mo

According to Goodreads, I started reading this book in March 2020 and made it to 13% before losing interest. Clearly something else began to distract me around that time….😉 I will definitely get back to this eventually, but for now it languishes along with my other unread #BOTM books.

While clearing out some shelves the other day I ran across this unread book. Back in 1991 I read my first book by this author, which I remember enjoying a lot. I have nothing against zombies or horror but, unlike the other book, this book I really couldn‘t “stand”. #DNF

Ruthiella My own experiences with King have been hit and miss. I would like to try his mysteries however, one of these days.🤔 4mo
inlovewithmyshelf @Ruthiella You gave most of the Stephen King books you‘ve read 4* on goodreads. That‘s mostly a hit! 4mo

I may go back and try to finish it, but I did nail. I‘m about 100 pages in (of almost 600) and don‘t feel a connection to the plot or the characters. #DNF #Bail #disappointed

This was definitely a “blame it on the cover”. What started as a friendship between a 6 yr old and a 13 yr old quickly became a romance between an 11 yr old and an 18 yr old. Not interested 👋🏼

This book was not for me. I just kept thinking, “this is sooo bad. Oh god, she‘s going off on another tangent!” And I didn‘t get the point of the book or how the various stories related to the chapters they were inserted in. I wanted to throw the book against the wall! I finally decided it would be best to bail on it and read something I actually enjoyed.

JamieArc I didn‘t like this one either. For a book about doing nothing/not having to be productive, it took way too much work to focus and figure out where she was going. That really annoyed me. 6mo

janeycanuck The title is so misleading. It‘s not a how-to at all but more of a why-to. I listened to the audio and found it confusing, thought maybe it was because it was audio, good to know it‘s similar in print. 6mo
