Bailedbailed

Idk, I really just lost interest in this story. I appreciated the perspective changes and honestly enjoyed Devin‘s chapters but I couldn‘t fully get behind a lot of it. It‘s insta love with fated mates and the tension in the relationship quickly went away after about a third or so into the book. I also can‘t get over how easily she accepted a lot of the situations she was put in and then also expected other characters to do the same.

I can't find myself picking up this one. I have tried for a while now. I am gonna have to #DNF. I love to hear about cults. But this cult, I don't know.. i feel like it took too long to get to it, and it wasn't “sexy“ enough? or “out there“ enough. It doesn't have to be sexy sexy, but like maybe... some shocking, not just general government sux end of the world? Anyway, #DNF

I DNFed this at 40%. I really tried but it just wasn‘t for me. It felt so relentlessly gloomy to me, which wasn‘t helped by the narrator of the audio. All of her voices sounded like variations on Eeyore.

#DNF

Susanita I actually loved this book, but I think Eeyore narration would annoy me too! 😄 2w
AlaMich @Susanita It was a bit hard to tell the characters apart because of it. 2w

I‘m bummed. I really wanted to enjoy this one but I think I‘m finding that I don‘t get one with angelic/biblical retellings. There were some things that I really enjoyed like the spin on the four horsemen and the languages and symbology but it didn‘t hold my attention. I felt no connection with the character and I didn‘t like how easy the magic came for some people. Sadly, I didn‘t get what the blurb made me feel I would be reading. #dnf

Continuing on a bad track of books not for me. I thought this was going to be a thriller/horror but instead it‘s a police procedural with a truly unlikeable protagonist. #hailthebail #dnf

Sace Ugh! I hate when a book turns out not to be what you expected. 3w

Well this is a bummer to #dnf, as I really enjoyed his previous books which are somewhat connected to this one. However, a reveal at the 50% mark made me no longer care what happened. Up til then I was quite riveted. Is the second half worth continuing? I‘m guessing no as this book has very little buzz. #hailthebail

Pruzy Personally I liked it all the way through. It gets more action-y after the reveal (if we are thinking if the same thing) which was still fun to read for me 3w

I‘m usually more forgiving of audiobooks but I listened to just under half of this one before ultimately deciding to ditch it. It‘s my third #DNF of the year and I don‘t regret switching to something else at all. I don‘t know why one blurb called this “wildly hilarious” but I never even cracked a smile. I found it to be shockingly dull and I just couldn‘t care less about any of the Reed family. Not even the Montreal setting could spice this up!

TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 Indeed!! It‘s taken me a long time get more comfortable bailing on books, but you know when it‘s a relief to set it aside that it was the right choice!!🤣 2mo
JenlovesJT47 I hardly ever do it either. I do it maybe once or twice a year. And I used to not rate them on Goodreads either but now if I read at least 20% and bail I‘ll give it a one star rating 😆 2mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 Yeah, I made a goodreads shelf for my DNF books just so that they are easier to keep track of for that reason! 2mo

This one really did hold my interest in the beginning, but the further I got, the less I cared about these characters. And the way they all spoke in a very formal, semi monotonous manner was driving me crazy. The narrator was good, it was more about the way the dialogue was written. No one ever uses contractions in this story and it made them seem robotic somehow. #DNF #hailthebail

I actually gave this #DNF of 2015 a second chance… finishing it this time. Originally, I had wanted this to be the same sort of magically tragic romance as The Time Traveler‘s Wife, bailing 46 chapters in and feeling like the story had no direction. Knowing what I was in for (& seeing reviews that said the ending was more exciting), I stuck through it… but I didn‘t ever find myself enjoying it. I didn‘t like the characters & the meandering plot.
