Beautifully written, just a little disappointed in the storyline. Going into this, I think I was just hoping for something a little more uplifting, and I didn‘t * really * get what I was looking for.. (I know, I know - a story set against a backdrop of the Russian revolution.. how could I possibly think that would have a happy ending, right?) 🤦🏼♀️
I really enjoyed this book. It‘s a quick, easy read but it still delivered great story and fairly well-developed characters given the length of the book. I particularly liked the way Emily was written - she may be an A.I. (or an “A.C.” if you ask her) but she still came across as an extremely relatable character and that definitely added to my appreciation of Wheaton‘s work.
Also using this for my #popsugar19 “uni campus” read 👩🏼🏫
#thursdaysurvey ... Better late than never, right? 🤔
1. Yes! Taronga Zoo 🦁🦒🦓

3. I love them all 😍 Favourites would be tigers, seals, dolphins, red pandas and penguins 🐯🐬🐧
4. Yes, swimming with dolphins and smooched by a seal 😘
5. Hi there 👋🏼 @Ericalambbrown @Valia

1. Tagged - ‘The Priory of the Orange Tree‘ by Samantha Shannon 🍊

3. I loved POTOT so much that I added Samantha Shannon‘s ‘Bone Season‘ trilogy to my TBR. Keen to get started on those later in the year 👏🏼👏🏼
4. The Popsugar Reading Challenge. A little behind I think, but still recoverable.. 18/50 📚
5. Hi there 👋🏼 @destinykay122 @staceynicole @the_book_hoarder 😊
A tragic, beautiful and moving story that, for me at least, hit close to home. Full of hard truths and revelations, this book wrapped itself around my heart and squeezed with all its might ❤️
On a side note, this is also probably the best Australian novel I‘ve read to date 👏🏼🇦🇺
#popsugar19 - a novel based on a #truestory
1. Tagged 🌉
2. “The factories rang their end-of-shift sirens, and herds of workers dashed through cyclone-wire gates towards their cars and bikes, or the narrow footpaths that lead to railway stations and bus stops”. 🚃
3. “In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you”. - Mortimer J Adler
When I started this I was looking for an epic fantasy, and I got what I wanted.
This book is a bit of a chunkster, but I honestly would have been happy if it was triple the size as I just didn‘t want this tale to end. It‘s a beautiful and detailed fantasy full of powerful characters and themes; and Shannon did an excellent job of delivering a tale of such grand proportions so completely and in so few pages.
#popsugar19 - cloister
1️⃣ Probably ‘Magic Mountain‘, ‘Madeline‘, ‘Sesame Street‘, ‘Barney‘... Too many! 🦁🐥🦖
2️⃣ Traveling, getting a tattoo ✈️
3️⃣ At the moment, I either pick something from my popsugar list or read my book club read.. no time for anything else! 📚
4️⃣ ‘A Man Called Ove‘. I really thought it would be overrated but I absolutely loved it.
5️⃣ What‘s your favourite “self-care” act / routine? Answer below ⬇️
“Never ever have I ever felt so low
When you gonna take me out of this black hole?
Never ever have I ever felt so sad
The way I'm feeling yeah, you got me feeling really
Reminds me of Bella‘s depressive episode in New Moon after Edward leaves her 😂🧛🏻♂️
It‘s been a looong day for what was supposed to be a ‘holy‘ Thursday (jk, nothing is sacred in sales 🙄). So it‘s currently 3am and I‘m cheating and killing 2 prompts with 1 post! 😜
#LetYouLoveMe reminds me of this book as Julie lets R try to love her despite the unfortunate circumstances they both face. By the end of the novel they also #fall in love with each other as fate (or Marion) would have it. 🧟♂️
#CarelessWhisper makes me think of dancing, and this is one of the most memorable books I‘ve read that featured dancing. It‘s an odd book but I quite enjoyed it at the time, and for some reason it has stuck with me ever since 💃🏽
Shout out to this guy for:
A) Not thinking Belle was completely crazy 😝
B) Encouraging her love of reading in a time when reading and an education weren‘t high on the list of “acceptable” priorities for women 🤓 and
C) Giving Belle a book just because she said it was her favourite 📚
Such an awesome (and completely underrated) character! Gotta #LoveYourLibrarian 💖
I was trying to think of the last time a character really amused me, and I think the winner is Iko from the Lunar Chronicles. She‘s so fantastically sassy and adorable - I absolutely love her and some of her lines had me laughing out loud to myself. She‘s just so fabulous, and even better yet: she knows it 💁🏼♀️👸🏼
Finally making a start on this for the #popsugar19 challenge and have my little buddy snuggled up with me. He can barely keep his eyes open at the moment... after all, it‘s a #HardDaysNight running rampant through the house at 2am 😒🐱
#SpiceUpYourLife reminds me of the spices used in Indian dishes, which reminds me of ‘A Little Princess‘ as it starts with Sara and her father leaving India for England. Sara also uses her imagination to “spice up” her own life, even when she appears destitute.
“It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it”. 👸🏻
I started this one while I was on holiday last year and never really got into it before I returned home. It has been sitting on my bookshelf since, just waiting to be picked up again, and this prompt reminded me that I should probably do just that.
Since the cover isn‘t any good to look at (thank you, dodgy copy found in Bali), have a picture that I took last Easter of a balloon and some #clouds 🎈☁️
Thanks for the tag @Cinfhen ... Technically I‘m about 30mins too late but ah well 😉
1️⃣ ‘Rolling in the Deep‘ - Adele 🎧
2️⃣ Aquarius ♒️
3️⃣ J. K. Rowling ⚡️ It is actually bizarre to think how much of my time has been spent on HP and how my life to this day is still shaped by it. Cue: this weekend I‘m going to see the *tagged movie in concert with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra 🎻
4️⃣ @naomi.lee97 I live in hope haha
“I‘m so hot for her, I‘m so hot for her,
I‘m so hot for her and she‘s so cold”.
Definitely DS Adrian Miles‘ “hot and cold” relationship with his ex-wife (hot on his side, frosty cold on hers) 👮🏻♂️💔🙅🏼♀️
This one is on my TBR list for the #popsugar challenge this year. Looking forward to reading about this collection of #siblings and their antics 🤓
Also, bonus picture of my sister and I from our trip to Bali last year. Because “reminiscing” 💁🏼♀️ haha Love you chickadee @naomi.lee97 💜
Admittedly this is still on my [ever-growing] TBR pile, but from everything I hear Daisy Jones is one of the #badgirls 😎
🎶(Also, on a side note, I am currently experiencing a great deal of satisfaction in using a music-themed booked for a music-themed challenge 😆)🎶
“All she had needed was the certainty of his love, and his reassurance that there was no hurry when a lifetime lay ahead of them. Love and patience - if only he had had them both at once - would surely have seen them both through”.
Oh my heart 💔 Why are my eyes leaking?? 😭😭
A gorgeous book, with such a frustratingly lovable protagonist. It took me a couple of chapters to warm to Ove, but in the end he “turned on the sun” and won me over. A beautiful and heartwarming tale that will, I think, stay with me for some time 💛
‘You‘re dancing on the inside, Ove, when no one‘s watching. And I‘ll always love you for that. Whether you like it or not.‘
Basically the brain food of #mygeneration while I was growing up... So many summers spent re-reading the existing books in preparation for the next book and/or movie release ⚡️❤️
One gin + tonic (and also possibly several glasses of wine) later, and I‘m finally getting a chance to settle back down and continue reading.. Should be interesting to see how far I get in my current state 😅🍸🍷 📖

“When little elves have cut themselves,
Or Mouse has hurt her tail,
Or Froggie‘s arm has come to harm,
This herb will never fail.
The Fairy‘s skill can cure each ill
And soothe the sorest pain;
She‘ll bathe, and bind, and soon they‘ll find
That they are well again”.
