The front porch is my favorite spot to read and today is finally not so scorching hot. I love how much reading I‘m getting done today. I requested this book thinking it was a cute little story for little kids but it‘s more of a middle grade book. It has a lot of interesting info about space and space travel so I definitely recommend it for kids interested in space! #netgalley #arc #reviewathon

RaimeyGallant I love the #reviewathon hashtag. Is this an actual event? If so, do you know who's running it? 4h
IvoryLunatic @RaimeyGallant It‘s run by NetGalley to encourage us to get our list of ARCs done. I‘m pretty sure they‘re not on Litsy but I‘ve been using it here anyways. 4h

Taking a break from the emotional distress of A House on Stilts to focus on the tagged book. AHOS is reminding me a lot of another parent of an addict book I read this year - Beautiful Boy. These books make me think I may never want my own kids after all. #netgalley #reviewathon #arc

He may not share my love for reading but being cuddled up on the couch together while we each do our thing is just as great to me. Reading the tagged book for the #NetGalley #reviewathon. Hoping to finish at least two of my current reads before the thon is done.

Our adorable foster Max got adopted today! It has me in tears because I‘m so in love with him but he‘s going to a great family that‘s also adopting another rescue dog. I‘ll sure miss him like crazy though. #fosteradopt

ljuliel That would be hard to adopt a pet then have to give it away. Once I saw a tv show about prison inmates who were given puppies to train as Guide dogs for handicapped folks. It showed how they trained them, then the day they had to give them away . Here are these hardened criminals sobbing because they got so attached to the pups. 1d
IvoryLunatic @ljuliel We never officially adopt them, we foster, but it‘s the same idea. If I was ok with 2 large dogs plus our fosters, I totally would‘ve kept him. But I‘m just not ready for that yet. So off he goes. They seem like great people though. 1d

The page I‘m closest to filling up in my challenge. I can‘t remember who I was supposed to tag in this challenge though. 😝 I haven‘t been looking for books to specifically fit these criteria though. I read my ARCs, library books and audiobooks as I get them and then see if they fit a category.

If you like children‘s books based on the Christian faith, then this is a good book to teach your kids that they can find comfort in Jesus and that nobody is perfect always all the time, that everybody makes mistakes. I like how they even explain what exactly the book is based on at the end.

And there goes another one that has me crying as I‘m finishing up. I try to read a lot about WW2 - fiction and nonfiction - because I never want to forget about the things my country has done. There is no use in pretending like there isn‘t any dark history there. But it never gets any easier to read about it. Cilka is waiting as one of my #netgalley books so that one will be up soon. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reading early because I can‘t sleep due to nausea. Moving on to my next library book that came in the middle of the #NetGalley #reviewathon. I‘m pretty sure another one is coming off my hold list soon too and while I‘m super excited for that one, I hate that they‘re interrupting my catching up on galleys.

It is finally done! I really hunkered down the last couple days to finish this one before it‘s publishing date. Wow. What an incredible book that has so much research to back it up. Arana speaks about the three different themes that have dominated Latin America over the last centuries - Silver (greed for natural resources), Sword (brutality) and Stone (religion) - and she did such a great job going into detail about those. I highly recommend this!

Here‘s a question for all my german friends: next time I‘m going over there, I want to get all the HP books in german. What are some pretty sets that are available? I tried searching on amazon.de but even when I specify Deutsch, most of the ones that come up are English. I really like this one but am interested to see what else is out there.

scripturient-ink The one in the picture is by far the best-looking, I'd say! The German books were never very pretty :D
There's this one: https://tinyurl.com/y3kmdsob (paperback)
I still have the very first edition which has those super weird covers (https://tinyurl.com/y6mnmp3k) - you could always just buy them individually, they're not very expensive anymore.
You could also try the publisher's website (Carlsen), but I haven't seen anything there at first glance.

My hardworking fiancé is super tired but taking me out for wings today. I couldn‘t ask for a better partner next to me, grinding. About halfway through the tagged book and it‘s cute. I‘m enjoying the easy read.

Buechersuechtling Was similar here on Friday when me and my significant other went to this exhibition. I _loved_ it – and he was bored out his wits after 10 minutes but patiently stayed for more than 2 hours because he could see how much I enjoyed it. It really does good to have the right someone by one‘s side. Mine, I wouldn‘t trade him in for all the books plus reading time in this world. ❤️ Hope, you had a wonderful time with much needed sleep afterwards. 1w
IvoryLunatic @Buechersuechtling they‘re so great! He told me at dinner last night - and I didn‘t bring this topic up at all because I wasn‘t going to ask him to sit there for hours at a time - that he wants to come to the next adoption event with our foster because he knows I would like that. I warned him about how boring that can get but he said he doesn‘t mind. I love him. He gets an extra hour of sleep this morning before work but then is at it again. 1w

Due to some financial decisions, I decided to slow way down on buying books this year but the one goal I do have is to fill my Harry Potter shelf up completely. I really want all of them in German and Spanish so that may be the way to go.

laur89 My book buying policy this year has been (for the most part) successful: If I read a borrowed book and loved it, I buy it used to add to my shelf. Using the library and signing up for Scribd (only 9$ a month) has saved me a TON of money!! 1w

Hey everyone! I finally got my new shelves up (minus the top extension) and the gap that was left was bigger than expected (terrible measuring skills obviously). It‘s not too bad when it‘s spaces somewhat evenly but I was wondering if anybody has any other ideas on what to do with all that space (preferably something not super permanent since we want to take the shelves with us in a couple of years).

allureofbeauty Can you push them tighter together? 1w
IvoryLunatic @allureofbeauty yes but then it leaves one big gap which was bothering me more. 1w
allureofbeauty What if you hung string lights where the little gaps are now it might cover it up and it would be pretty if that‘s your aesthetic that is, I like it personally. 1w
IvoryLunatic @allureofbeauty I really like the idea of that! Sadly, our kittens probably would too. They‘re super young and stick their noses everywhere they shouldn‘t right now. 😂 1w

I have less than two weeks left to finish this #arc for #NetGalley so I‘m trying to really hunker down on it. It is very interesting and I love talking about it with my Hispanic fiancé but it‘s also very long and dry in many spots so it‘s taking me much longer than other books to get through. But so far I have always managed to finish arcs before their publishing dates and I‘m hoping not to break that habit.

This is my third Jacqueline Woodson book so far and while there‘s never any biiig exciting adventures, I always walk away feeling like I learned something. My life is so incredibly different from her characters‘ lives and I‘m glad I get to learn about their experiences, even if they are fictional. We grew up in different worlds and I think it‘s necessary to learn how other grow up and live, especially when you come from a place of privilege.

I‘m trying to decide if I should put the white backing in or leave the wall showing through. A third option - though who knows how long until that gets done - would be to find a pretty patterned wallpaper and put that in the back. Also, that entire wall will be a bookshelf and we have the extension for on top of it as well.

We were really set on getting a 2019 Toyota 4Runner last night but now my some people are telling us we‘re crazy to even consider because of the mpg it gets. Anybody drive this? How do you feel about it?

TheAromaofBooks We've owned our 2018 for a year and absolutely love it. My husband gets about 20mpg on his daily commute. We have the TRD Pro, and it's a beast. It definitely rides and feels like a truck more than a crossover, thanks to the body-on-frame, but that is what we were looking for. I could go on all day, so I'll stop for now, but good luck!! :-D 2w
IvoryLunatic @TheAromaofBooks We are planning on getting an actual truck eventually too this was supposed to be the one that saved a bit of gas compared to the truck but it seems like it‘s worse than some of the trucks we are considering like the Tacoma so that seems to defeat that purpose. Haha 2w
TheAromaofBooks lol yes it isn't amazing on gas, but it's awesome in so many other ways that we were willing to take the trade-off. :-D And low 20's aren't terrible for something its size. We're getting ready to take another road trip in it in a few weeks - 26hrs one-way to Wyoming!! It's super comfy. Anyway, best of luck making your choice!!! 2w

The storm is over and the boo us home from work. I like sitting next to him while we both do our thing. He‘s not an Ove but we still like our quiet time. I‘m still unsure of this book. It‘s finished and I‘m having mixed feelings about it still. I liked the ending. Not sure I needed the rest of the book though. I like the writing itself though. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

rachelk Yeah, I liked it alright but didn‘t love it the way so many others do 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w
Buechersuechtling @IvoryLunatic @rachelk Yes, I so much agree with you. It was an okay read. I didn‘t rate it good enough to want to read more by the author. The glaring hype still puzzles me. 🤷🏽‍♀️ 3w
Emu I‘m so glad to find out that I‘m not the only one out there that doesn‘t love this book. Thank you 😀 3w
IvoryLunatic @Buechersuechtling I'm not against trying to read something else by the same author. I like the simple writing for a break in between more difficult books. My current audiobook. I‘m not a big fun so far and find myself thinking about other things frequently during it. Maybe I need to actually read them rather than listen to them but that‘ll have to wait until I catch up on my #NetGalley #ARCs.

Moony Oh yes I know this problem. 😑 3w
Buechersuechtling @IvoryLunatic @Moony Funny that it‘s this way for you. I found out that it‘s exactly the other way 'round for me. I can handle classics better/easier when I „read“ them as audiobook. 3w
IvoryLunatic @Buechersuechtling Well I loved the Count of Monte Cristo and The Secret Garden on audio but somehow this one just isnt doing it for me. Maybe it‘s just this specific book. The characters just seem shallow and not interesting to me either. 3w
