It has taken me a week to get into this book (I blame real-life commitments and stresses) and now I‘m itching to take another book off the shelf but I still have a ways to go in this guy!

“I learned to like and value certain white women, despite their racism, long before I learned how to prioritize and value my own Black-girl magic.” HOLY SHIT! I had to stop and breathe for a moment. #realtalk #metoogirl

BlackBibliophile I felt like she was peering into my innermost thoughts as a young girl! Wow! So true. I had to prioritize. Just wow! 2y
BlackandBookish @BlackBibliophile This last year has showed me how much I miss and need Black women in my life. How I need to make that my priority. Reading this book is waking up those feelings and emotions. 2y

The Wedding Date | Jasmine Guillory

Pickpick

Absolutely charming interracial romance novel about two professionals who meet in an elevator and pretend to be a long-distance couple to get through a rough wedding, and then can't seem to get enough of each other. Can't wait to see what Jasmine Guillory writes next! ❤❤❤

#90sinjuly @Robothugs @Cinfhen #insaneinthebrain Ok #realtalk here... seriously this is one of only two books that have given me nightmares. The other book that gave me nightmares like this one did was Mein Kampf. So this is a true crime novel that has money, industry, socialites, artists, oh...and incest, matricide, an insane asylum, suicide and so much more. 😣😥😢

Cinfhen Ha! I NEED to read this!!! #stacked 2y
Robothugs This sounds interesting! 2y
kricheal @Cinfhen @Robothugs I was very tired when I posted this so I'm not sure if I'm following the prompt correctly. Is the prompt #90sinjuly just referring to the music, or are we doing a themed decade as well to when the books were published? 2y

kricheal This came out mid eighties 😶😶😶😶 2y
Robothugs The music! It can be the title, the song, or just a book that you think of when you listen to it. 😊 2y
kricheal @Robothugs thanks!😀 2y
Robothugs Also, if you can't think of a book but it makes you think of something else, you're welcome to post that, too! 😊 2y

Real talk: I have to keep stress way down for health reasons. As such, I'm spending what feels to me like too much time doing things that keep stress down, instead of doing things to build life skills. What do you all do to keep stress down? Maybe I can find things that don't take as much time. #realtalk #stress

Myhusbandhatesreading Good luck. ❤️ I find everything stressful. Lately I diffuse oils. It sounds hokey but it is actually relaxing. We also got a new meditation cd to try, Relaxation and Self Regulation Techniques for Children and Teens. We got it for my son but we actually do it also since we are beginners too. 2y
Megara Reading. Netflix. 10 minute meditations. (Also the person above me has a hilaaaarious username 😂). Prescribed drugs. White noise/sounds of rain, especially to fall asleep. I can also say diffusing oils helps (albeit a mild improvement when you have anxiety as intense as mine). Journaling. Writing letters. Tea (solves everything). Swimming. If I can get myself out of bed, being outdoors - especially on a hike. Spending time with you. 2y
TheBookDream @Myhusbandhatesreading @Megara Thanks. Those are all very good ideas (also, @megara: I didn't realize this comment was from you until just now. I crashed today and didn't even recognize your name ?) It's so bad I almost titled a work e-mail "Are you ready to stay awake?" 2y

Megara @TheBookDream oh! And watching YouTube videos of puppies being adorable or parrots swearing and singing. That usually helps in a pinch. 2y
Myhusbandhatesreading @Megara My ways to get back at my husband for not enjoying reading are small but evil 😊. @TheBookDream I feel your pain. I literally took a day off today to just not have to deal with the stress at work. I do take meds for anxiety and some days I do double the dose. 2y
TheBookDream @Myhusbandhatesreading Oh dear. I have had to do that occasionally, but lately I've been getting what my doctor thinks is in the range of Fibromyalgia type crap. So I'm trying to reduce stress to avoid the bouts of pain/exhaustion. Bleh. As if mental pain wasn't enough 😡 2y

THIS. If there's one thing I've become very adverse to after undergoing a severe cut in my hours in 2013, is that I DESPISE having only one job. If one goes down the tubes at least you aren't entirely without income. #financialreads #realtalk

Must be the 1st time I've read a book that took into account mental illness OR the fact that some families just like living in multigenerational homes. I'm happy, my parents are happy. They lived at home until marriage too. Some people like that, as long as rent is being paid etc. BUT...he's still too harsh on YA's that can't make it. I know a few who should probably be forced to contribute more, but they are a minority. #financialreads #realtalk
