A reread of a classic by one of my favourite authors. Our book club at work is reading the Deptford trilogy together over the year.

I had the great fortune to attend one of Robertson Davies's readings many years ago, before he passed away.

rabbitprincess Wow! That reading must have been amazing. I should pull out Deptford this year… 13mo
Librarybelle That‘s awesome you got to attend one of his presentations! 13mo

CarolynM That would have been amazing! I found Deptfod a bit dark for my taste, but I loved the Cornish Trilogy, especially 13mo
kwmg40 @rabbitprincess @Librarybelle @TheAromaofBooks @CarolynM Yes, I'm so glad I had that opportunity. I probably didn't appreciate it enough at the time. 😄 13mo
kwmg40 @CarolynM I also love The Cornish Trilogy. What's Bred in the Bone is excellent, but The Rebel Angels remains my favourite. Parlabane is such a memorable character! 13mo
Sapphire I am pretty sure I have this on my shelf somewhere. Will add it to the challenge to get me moving toward reading my own tomes too! 13mo
kwmg40 @Sapphire I hope you enjoy it! As I'm sure you could tell by my comments, I'm a huge Robertson Davies fan. 13mo

For the last several years, I‘ve started the new year with this book. It is such a celebration of friendship, filled with humor and just a bit of real life situations (rationing, for example). And, inevitably, I‘m always crying by the end. A wonderful book that shows books can connect people, even across oceans. So much like Litsy!! #192025 #1970

MaGoose I've watched the movie (with Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins) a few times (I love it). But I've never read the book. I'll pick up the movie again from the library and put the book on my wish list. 1y
Librarybelle @MaGoose I really need to see the movie! 1y

Late November, several of the moomin family‘s friends, Snirfkin, the Hemulen and Fillyfjonk, decide to visit them. Only finding the moomin family not at home, but their friends decide to stay.

This is an old library copy with the old library card for borrowing in the back. It was first borrowed in 1972.

Andrew65 This brings back memories. 🎄🎄🎄 1y
AnneCecilie @Andrew65 For me too. I watched the cartoons in the 90s. But it was a little weird reading a moomin book without the moomins. This was also the first moomin book I read by Jansson. 1y
Librarybelle Oh! I love finding old library cards in books! 1y

Andrew65 @AnneCecilie I have a vague memory of picture books but would need to research to make sure I didn‘t make that up. Remember the cartoons well. 1y
Libby1 I just read this book last week too! One thing I read compared it to Waiting for Godot in Moominvalley. 1y

A weekend in the lives of Otto Bentwood, a successful lawyer and his sophisticated wife Sophie. They own both a brownstone in Brooklyn and a small country home on Long Island. They are struggling with direction in their lives. Although it was written in #1970, it feels very current. The writing is exquisite. At times,I wanted to jot down certain sentences whose beauty left me in awe. A slim book. Tense. Serious. Atmospheric. #192025

I‘ve heard so many good things about this book. I‘m reading it now as part of a shared read on the #TIOLI challenges for #LibraryThing.

SqueakyChu I know this book is about time travel, but my mind is already traveling back to #1970, this book‘s publication date, in which a character has an #MG. Those were the days! ❤️ (edited) 2y
SqueakyChu I can already tell I‘m going to love this book. I‘m on page 19. (edited) 2y

This is a sweet, sad, romantic story. Not a lot to it, but well written with charming characters and the author does a great job with the narration. I was shocked to discover we used the same Whitman poem in our wedding vows without ever having read/seen it. #audiobook #BirthdayChallenge #1970

Suelizbeth You have to admit that it‘s pretty sappy, though. 7y
KVanRead @Suelizbeth Oh Yes, definitely. Parts were cringey but it still made me choke up. But I am kind of a sap.😂 7y

Next up on #audiobook in my #BirthdayChallenge: #1970. I don‘t agree with the famous quote pictured here, but it is one of those incredibly famous books I‘ve always meant to get to.

Alfoster Yes, so sappy but a tearjerker for sure when it came out!😢 Agree that it's a stupid line; you should always be willing to say you're sorry! 7y
KVanRead @Alfoster Yup, and pretty indispensable in a marriage, IMO 😂 7y
