Tom Bombadil is my favorite merry old soul with no cares and full of Whimsy. He was also the most powerful character in all of Tolkiens worlds. I feel like he would've been a natural in Wonderland.

Something that no devotee of the Hobbit epic can afford to miss!
@BurghBookAddict Thank you for everything! Can't wait to read these books and I adore the cat bookmark. The candle smells lovely. The mystery Funko was Pippin ☺ @Sorceryandswords
As this isn't the first time I've read these poems, I already knew I was going to like them. The added elements in this edition are the commentaries on every poem by the editors, which usually include earlier variants of the core poems, together with a very brief outline by Tolkien of a never realised, stand-alone Tom Bombadil story. Well worth the relatively modest cover price... 👇🏻👇🏻
So, I'm reading Tolkien's poem "The Hoard" and thinking that the metre is strongly reminiscent of something else. What else do I know that's written in an Anglo-Saxon style with a caesura, or pause, in the middle of each line? Obviously, "What is He Thinking" by The Streets from their album "A Grand Don't Come for Free"! #booksandmusic https://youtu.be/9EQBDK99ak8
Another journey into Middle-earth, in the way that Tolkien imagined hobbits would write about it in simple verse. I've read these poems many times and always find them charming. I was absolutely sure I had them in their own volume, and was surprised to find I only had them as part of a larger collection, an omission rectified by buying this Scull/Hammond edition, with their extensive commentaries on each poem. I was a little disappointed...👇🏻
5 ⭐️ 💙AUDIOBOOK 💙I enjoyed this one- very similar to the magic of the LOTR trilogy, with bonus bits and pieces that separate it from it. I liked that a couple of poems that Sam recited in the Two Towers are in this one! ⏯SCRIBD⏯
Taking a break and listening to this one on SCRIBD!! It took me a minute to realize who the narrator was- Derek Jetter! Amazing so far
I picked up this beautiful copy of Tom Bombadil recently. I couldn‘t resist. :) #jrrtolkien #tombombadil
Catching up with #lotrchapteraday I‘m stopping with Tom Bombadil. The Similarian sounds intriguing but I just don‘t have the time right now.
This edition of Tom Bombadil was so beautiful both in English and Spanish. The pictures were also amazingly drawn. I will have to look for this edition to add to my own collection, for now though I have to return it back to the library.

And so it's over. I enjoyed it and l'm surprise. I normally have a very hard time with poetry, but l like this, l suspect because all poems are also a story.
There are funny ones and sad ones and l like all of them, especially the ones about Middle Earth.
l wasn‘t too keen on reading this, even considered not too. But l'm happy l did. It was her perfect read between LOTR and the Silmarillion.
Can't wait to start 😊
The last poem of Tom Bombadil! I'm excited to start The Silmarillion tomorrow but so glad I got to take a break from the lore for a few poems.
What are some of your favorite poems from this collection? #lotrchapteraday
#lotrchapteraday Really enjoyed this last poem, but I have to admit I'm excited to hit The Silmarillion!
This was fun light hearted break between the heavier works of LOTR & The Simarillion. It had lots of fun reminders of moments I loved in The Hobbit & LOTR. The songs got a little melancholy at the end, but I think that fits Middle Earth. Things there are often tinged with an air of melancholy. #lotrchapteraday
#lotrchapteraday Another melancholy one. To think of seeing the last elves slip away from Middle Earth & to almost get to go only to find yourself held back by feet of clay. The idea of Middle Earth without elves breaks my heart 💔
Well that was depressing. The Sea-Bell. #LOTRChapterADay
#lotrchapteraday Today‘s poem/song had such a feeling of melancholy to it. Why is it that the sea always seems to evoke this feeling, esp in Tolkien‘s works, & yet at the same time it also has such a pull? I guess it‘s that the sea is the greatest unknown on our planet...it‘s the greatest liminal space we have to hand, & we can never quite know how we will come out on the other side. We only know we will be changed.
Okay #LotRChapterADay littens. I'm sure we can all agree that 'The Horde' was a depressing poem that proves that you ought to avoid elvish gold at all costs. 😉 But seriously... can we just talk about this dragon's face?
#LotRChapterADay
Really really loved this one. It made me think to The Hobbit and The Silmarillion, and l enjoyed the rhythm a lot
#lotrchapteraday This poem is a good read and carries its message of the cost of greed all too well. It never ceases to amaze me the lengths we will go, the things we will do to one another, & the things we will sacrifice for shiny baubles.
This poem is the perfect thing to read out loud on a windy October night. Just spooky enough! #LotRChapterADay
#lotrchapteraday This one has a darker feel & puts me a bit in mind of Persephone. It‘s not an exact parallel, but that image of the sweet flower of spring captured by a darker force & no real addressing of how she feels about the new life she now dances within...
I do love the illustrations for this one 😍
#lotrchapteraday I always knew there was a lion 🦁 inside every cat 🐈. You better run little mouse 🐁
😊😂
Tommy thinks this is the perfect #CatsOfLitsy poem, and that all cats are fearsome beasts. He also thinks that "the fat cat on the mat" is obviously a reference to his brother, who is known for being fat and lazy. Tommy, on the other hand, is known for being clumsy and loving to snuggle. He is also known for his weird, scarred eyes, and his extreme derpiness... ?
#LotRChapterADay
With smile
HE dives,
And promptly turning upside-down
He tips them off, and deep they drown,
And lose their silly lives
To their surprise.
Be wise!
#LOTRChapterADay
Tommy cat says that this poem seemed all cute and funny until the giant turtle murdered all those people. What a trickster! 😂😹
#CatsOfLitsy #LotRChapterADay
#lotrchapteraday Those darn turtle islands 🐢 They‘ll get the unaware every time 😂 I do love the idea of someone trying to make some tea when suddenly the island beneath their feet unceremoniously dumps them into the sea...if someone lit a fire on my back, I think I‘d do the same.
#lotrchapteraday Sam‘s Oliphaunts 🐘 😍💜😍💜😍💜😍💜 It‘s so great to find reminders of Sam here. It‘s very fitting for him & Tom Bombadil to be intertwined 😊
Taking a break at #GRCC before I drag all the stock out to the truck. This chapter made me smile. I can imagine Tolkien reading this poem to his kids (or grandkids). Maybe in a big overstuffed armchair... in front of the fire... mug of tea nearby... pipe smoke in the air... #LotRChapterADay 🐘🐘🐘
Of course I haven‘t forgotten Tom Bombadil and friends during #deweysreadathon. How cute is our little glutton Perry-The-Winkle? #LOTRChapterADay
What happens after hours at comic conventions? Hungry vendors read Tolkien while waiting for their dinner companions.
This one was perfect for a spooky October night, but it wasn't one of my favorites. I guess I'm just not in the mood for creepy poetry... #LotRChapterADay
#lotrchapteraday you know, I think I‘m just gonna leave those Mewlips alone...they don‘t sound like my kind of critters. 😱
#lotrchapteraday This poem of the lonely troll & Perry-the-Winkle shows our prejudices can cause us to miss knowing some pretty great people & that if we can look past those prejudices the rewards can be beyond what we would expect. This was great & I loved that the troll told the people who rejected him that they‘d lost the chance for what he had to offer😊
#LotRChapterADay
Playing catch up, since l had so little time to read during the last week.
Really loved the two 'hobbit' song, Sam's The Troll Song song Perry-the-Winkle.
I don't usually read pretty, but l like Tolkien's... l sospetto because these poems are all also stories. I'm really enjoying this read 😊
In today's #LotRChapterADay poem a lonely troll baker makes friends with Perry-the-Winkle. Whereas yesterday's troll was a bit mean and ate meet and shin bones, this troll is vegetarian and just wants friends to come over for tea. This was a really fun poem, and one I could see a child loving. ❤
#lotrchapteraday look!!! Sam‘s poem about the troll made it in!!! 💜😍💜😍💜😍💜😍 I can just picture Sam reciting it under the shadows of the 3 stone trolls from Bilbo‘s adventures. This just makes me so happy 😀
I spend an inordinate amount of time sitting in the box truck, waiting for a loading dock. Luckily, I have today's #LotRChapterADay to entertain me. I loved seeing the consistency of the troll Tom encounters and Bilbo's trolls. They're all a little thick, a little crass, and very entertaining. And now I know not to kick a stone troll in the butt!
I was trying to take a picture of the poor sad man in the moon for today's #LotRChapterADay, but Tommy isn't feeling well and decided to lay on my book. Much like the man in the moon Tommy would like a warm hearth and some good food... Sadly, all he gets is cat food and eye medicine.
#CatsOfLitsy
#lotrchapteraday That poor Man in the Moon doesn‘t make out so well in this one. Poor guy is lonely in his glimmering tower & trips to Middle Earth, quite literally, to get fished out of the bay & filched out of his finery for two day old porridge 😂 He better stick to the merry old inn of the previous song 🍻
#lotrchapteraday this one just made me smile. I love to imagine the hobbit on the left is Bilbo reciting this to us with a chuckle & a wink. Who knew we were the descendants of the hobbits with nursery songs that evolved form the old pub songs of old 😊😂
Alright, #LotRChapterADay littens... did you guys know a portion of this poem was set to music by James Nesbit? Well, it was and you can see it in the extended version of 'The Hobbit'... or at this link:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hiRZY80Jjqk
#lotrchapteraday Did anyone else think about Bofur singing (a slightly revised version) of this song while they were reading today?
Max! There are cats in The Adventures of Tom Bombadil! Tipsy cats at that! Also, I had to lookup “ostler ”. 😬#LOTRChapterADay
#lotrchapteraday This was was such a sweet song of an elven princess & her reflection. I just love the hobbitishness of these tales. I can just imagine Bilbo or Sam telling them to me before the warm fire in Bag End while we enjoyed tea & cakes. 😍
This is my favorite so far! I adored the descriptions of Princess Mee and her outfit and just just picture Mee and Shee dancing toe-to-toe in the starlight.
This is the Pauline Baynes illustration... I'm hoping someone doing the #LotRChapterADay will post a picture of the Alan Lee illustration (if there is one).
