TheBookHippie I liked this. Reading it brought back floods of memories from my younger years. I saw Ozzyfest (80s)in my late teens- life changing. We were going to go in 2016 but I got sick 😑. I adored watching his final concert. (edited) 1w

AmyG I loved this book. You heard Ozzy‘s voice throughout. I only really listened to Black Sabbath, not his solo albums. And I found him so very endearing. How do you not like Ozzy? A decent but WILD guy. 1w

peaKnit I enjoyed re-reading this one. I saw him in the early 90‘s with a group of guys, including now husband - our own concert club. His solo career started during my weird angsty middle school time, perfect timing. Crazy Train, Over the Mountain, Bark at the moon 🎼 1w

I loved this show. It was brilliant. Ozzy didn't seem to have enjoyed it so much & I don't blame him. I couldn't do a reality show. I hate cameras.

TheBookHippie I caught it a few times. Not much TV in these years I was working a ton and raising my daughter. I could never and I don‘t generally enjoy reality TV. 1w

AmyG We loved watching the show. My kids would auote lines from it all the time. Clean your room! “I don‘t have to, I‘m the Prince of Darkness”. 🤣🤣🤣 1w

peaKnit My husband and I loved the show. We loved MTV reality - the real world. (Though a conservative cast member from my state is now head of transportation, what?!) Anyways, the show was fun and ridiculous. I didn‘t have kids yet, but I wish they could‘ve seen it with us lol! I always wondered the impact on Kelly and Jack though. @AmyG we still quote that line 🤣 1w

As Ozzy points out Suicide Solution wasn't on that album nor was that what the sound is about.
Is anyone right to blame the musicians? Personally, I prefer sad music when I'm sad, because I can relate to it & I don't always want to be cheered up. What is your preference?

TheBookHippie No. Do musicians get blamed for music played and babies get made? The cologne he wore, the books etc etc the answer is inside the person. Ozzy and his music saved so many lives too. Concerts were so good for misfits 🙂 but that was a shared love experience. Is music powerful- yes. Ultimately it‘s still the person who decides. 1w

TheBookHippie Also. I think it was a ruse. To blame the music. Kinda like another situation we just had here. 1w

AmyG Suicide is a horror and I think some look for something to blame….hence the music. There are so many factors, was music one of them? Maybe. But not the cause. 1w

peaKnit Suicide leave those behind so ruined, I think they grab at any possibility of blame. It may depend on the person. A sensitive or mentally ill person could crawl a bit into the lyrics and believe they are speaking to them? 1w

peaKnit Music can be something to relate to, to feel joy, nostalgia. @thebookhippie I agree, his concerts were a place for the misfits to meet🥰 a cousin and I bonded over Ozzy, she was a drug addict and I was a bookworm, anything is possible. And working in corrections, I‘ve quoted some wild music to relate to peeps lol! (edited) 1w

TheBookHippie I remember this so vividly… such an unnecessary tragedy… we were all just gutted. He was a decent man - kid really.. from all accounts he was a good person. Horrific and senseless. 1w

peaKnit I remember this and also read Rudy Sarzo‘s memoir. He described this from his perspective also. Randy was a prodigy, and had some classical future goals. Horribly sad. I can‘t imagine how haunted Ozzy and his crew must have been after this. I wanted more from Ozzy‘s memoir on this incident - it shaped the future. (edited) 1w

TheBookHippie A little of both here I think. It‘s hard to comprehend that kind of life. It‘s like stupid things you do in a group in your late teens and early twenties except you didn‘t have an audience. 1w

AmyG I also think both. He was a character. Then add drugs and alcohol. That he survived for so long is some kind of miracle. 1w

peaKnit I think drugs and alcohol would obliterate his conscience to allow him to do whatever, whenever. Seems an awful way to live. It was also a way to get people to leave, it seems he sabotaged many relationships. 1w

TheBookHippie I think they were destiny for each other and although I‘m not always her biggest fan, I think she kept him alive in more ways than one. Her sitting on stage off to the side in his finally concert just watching him gutted me at the time and to think of it now I‘m not sure how she‘ll live without him. 1w

AmyG They had quite the interesting marriage. I, too, think they were made for each other and they deeply loved the other. 1w

peaKnit I think they matched each other‘s intensity - love and fight HARD. I also think she needed to run the show and he needed her too. 1w

AllDebooks Ozzy had an incredible life! Can't wait to get to the second half, following his solo career and family life. I loved watching The Osbornes on MTV. 3w

AllDebooks I do not like the way his derogatory comments on the groupies, 'chicks, two-baggers', etc, but the language is of his time in the '60s & 70s. I hope that eases up. 3w

peaKnit Ozzy was unhinged on his own a bit (ADHD does add a “sparkle” lol), but he was also egged on by the industry and people around him. He really found his path, with a few wild detours. Thank you for the discussion. 3w

I'm torn on how much more screwed up he could have been to get kicked out of Black Sabbath than the rest of the band and I think his going solo was the best thing for him.
Question 5: Do you think it was fair that he got kicked out? What about his name change suggestion of Black Sabbath II? And which do you prefer Black Sabbath or Ozzy solo? My favorite is his solo work 🖤

TheBookHippie I think going solo was best for him. I do prefer him solo as well -but some of the Sabbath songs are my absolute favorites. As for the name I‘m not sure. It was so so moving to see them all together right before he died. 3w

peaKnit I think I really became aware of him and appreciated him during the Randy Rhodes years. I‘ve read Ronnie James‘ book, he was a class act in many ways so it worked out for Black Sabbath. I get his disappointment that should have had a 2 after the name - it‘s kind of indicative of his child like thought process at times. 3w

Oh, the chaos! I can't imagine having to grow up with Ozzy like this. Some of the things he did were truly horrendous, which he admits to, but giving the Vicar hash was funny.

AmyG He seemed like a kind, decent young man who was an incredible “fu** up”. Nothing but trouble yet I don‘t feel for one minute he was a bad guy. 3w

AllDebooks I really struggled reading about the animal cruelty. However, he does acknowledge it and regrets it. He was so messed up before the drugs and alcohol. I agree about him being vulnerable and hurting. 3w

Ozzy wanted to start a band because of his love for the Beatles. Their earlier band Earth was a blues band but they are credited as the fathers of heavy metal.
Question 3: Do you think all rock/metal comes from the blues? What would Black Sabbath be without the scary music?

AmyG That is my favorite line. Cracked me up. Seemed there was no deep thought…just a suggestion. And the trajectory of the band took off. It all seemed like chance. Yet….they were allso talented in their own ways. 3w

This broke my heart when I read it. I wonder how many others have gone undiagnosed. I feel like today ADHD is probably overdiagnosed but what about back then and how many parents & teachers miss dyslexia?
Question 2: Are things getting better? Or are students still getting misdiagnosed or ignored? And how do you think Ozzy handled learning lyrics?

TheBookHippie Must have been so excruciating . My BFF was dyslexic they put her in special ed she was actually brilliant. She got diagnosed in her 30s as well. It still gets missed. When I am reading with kids and I suspect it I report it and follow through til someone listens but it‘s a battle and if you‘re not wealthy or brown it‘s even harder to get proper diagnosis. AllDebooks I don't think it was a diagnosis when he was a kid. Just labelled stupid and lazy, written off by the education system. How much potential has been missed on kids left undiagnosed? 3w

peaKnit @alldebooks I agree he was written off. Kids get labeled and it hangs on. I was diagnosed ADHD as an adult once I started a career close to social work and others noticed my “racing style”, my daughter is just going through the process in college. It still has a stigma. 3w

And as it turns out his father was right on both accounts. Ozzy had a rough start he went to prison for burglary but then became a legend.
Question 1: Do you think he learned his lesson or that he just learned that he hated prison? He didn't exactly stick to the straight and narrow. What do you think his father would have thought about his legacy?

AmyG I felt that he learned his lesson. I got the feeling he wanted to make something of himself…just didn‘t quite know how. It all sort of fell in his lap. Ozzy led an unconventional life and not sure about how his Dad felt. Hopefully proud. (edited) 3w

AllDebooks Prison gave him a wake-up call, for sure. He was just drifting without purpose. Whatever prompted him to post that notice for band members was a blessing. It certainly turned everything around from that point on. 3w

peaKnit I think he learned a lesson not to steal but I‘m skeptical he had captured the full picture during his first go round. He definitely didn‘t like it, yay! I hope his dad was proud, he supported him a bit with the piece of equipment he bought him to get started. 3w

Read for the #PDR #PrinceOfDarknessReadAlong founded by @BookwormAHN - I looked high and low for my farewell concert ticket (before Ozfest started) with no luck but have I been on memory lane today. I realize I have a lot of pictures for ransom of old Highschool friends, texted a few out to jostle the nerves - ha ha ha ha ha (imagine Crazy Train intro…) anyways, I enjoyed this book again and look forward to a chat about it.

Ozzy Osbourne Tribute at the MTV VMAs tonight. Did you watch it? If you watched it, what did you think? I thought the tribute was good. My mom said she thought that YUNGBLLUD wasn‘t the right person to sing Ozzy‘s songs because he doesn‘t sound like Ozzy and I agree with that but there‘s only one Ozzy.

BookwormAHN I sort of agree. I think his voice for Changes is really good but not necessarily for Crazy Train. Steven Tyler singing Momma I'm Coming Home was incredible and I think Yungblud joining in worked well but by that time I was also sobbing 💗🦇💗 1mo

AllDebooks I adore Yungblud. I thought he did a fantastic job opening the farewell show in July. I still get goosebumps thinking about his version of Changes. I can't comment on the MTV show as I haven't seen it yet. I know I will be sobbing like you @BookwormAHN 😢 1mo

AmyG No one will sound like Ozzy. I think it‘s easier to enjoy others singing his songs once you accept that. I find the same thing with Robert Plant. I saw Jason Bonham‘s LZ experience and the entire time I just missed Plant singing those songs. 1mo

R.I.P. Ozzy! I like the songs I‘ve heard by him but I haven‘t heard every song by him. Does that mean I‘m a fan even if I haven‘t heard every song? I always thought in order to be a fan of an artist that I had to listen to every single song they‘ve released but maybe I can still be a fan even if I haven‘t heard every song. For example, I became a fan of Slipknot by only hearing a few songs by them and liking the songs.

itsjustme40something I discovered Ozzy in the 6th grade and he provided the soundtrack to my youth(with many others) and some of those moments were significant. That doesn't make me more or less a fan, enjoying the music you know is enough. 3mo

R.I.P. Ozzy! I just played this song. I like this song too. I forgot to play it last night. Now that I think about it, I have heard this song before but I don‘t know why because I didn‘t grow up listening to his music. He has some good songs. The other songs I played last night are songs I‘ve probably heard before but I don‘t remember. I like the songs I‘ve heard from him but I haven‘t heard all of his songs.

R.I.P. Ozzy! I found out yesterday that he passed away so I played these songs after I got out of the shower. I liked these songs. I didn‘t grow up listening to his music. I used to watch his reality show The Osbournes when I was a little girl. My older brother caught me watching The Osbournes in my room and he put parental controls on that channel. When I was a teenager, I asked him to remove the parental controls and he did.

✂️ I think I trimmed my bangs a few times when I had them, but not for a very long time. I trust my hair stylist a lot more than myself!

🙌👏 Right now, I am thankful for medical professionals (docs, nurses, techs, PAs, office staff, etc.) who are kind, caring and gentle. Let me tell you, it makes all the difference. Cheers to all of you who work in the medical field! You make a difference in people‘s lives!

Elizabeth2 @Cosmos_Moon I‘ve had experiences this week with a doc and office that are not the best, and an office/staff/docs/techs/nurses who are phenomenally caring and kind. It really makes all the difference. In my experience (especially when caring for my parents for years until their deaths) there are many more that fall into that second group. Reflecting back on that...Goodness, I don‘t think they know how much of a difference they make. ❤️ Truly. (edited) 5y
