"No series since George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire has quite captured both palace intrigue and the way that tribal infighting and war hurt the vulnerable the most." --Paste MagazineThe final chapter in the bestselling, critically acclaimed Daevabad Trilogy, in which a con-woman and an idealistic djinn prince join forces to save a magical kingdom from a devastating civil war.Daevabad has fallen. After a brutal conquest stripped the city of its magic, Nahid leader Banu Manizheh and her resurrected commander, Dara, must try to repair their fraying alliance and stabilize a fractious, warring people. But the bloodletting and loss of his beloved Nahri have unleashed the worst demons of Dara's dark past. To vanquish them, he must face some ugly truths about his history and put himself at the mercy of those he once considered enemies.Having narrowly escaped their murderous families and Daevabad's deadly politics, Nahri and Ali, now safe in Cairo, face difficult choices of their own. While Nahri finds peace in the old rhythms and familiar comforts of her human home, she is haunted by the knowledge that the loved ones she left behind and the people who considered her a savior are at the mercy of a new tyrant. Ali, too, cannot help but look back, and is determined to return to rescue his city and the family that remains. Seeking support in his mother's homeland, he discovers that his connection to the marid goes far deeper than expected and threatens not only his relationship with Nahri, but his very faith. As peace grows more elusive and old players return, Nahri, Ali, and Dara come to understand that in order to remake the world, they may need to fight those they once loved . . . and take a stand for those they once hurt.

A great finale to the series!! Definitely wish some of the relationships were tied up a bit more directly, but the resolution to the ongoing conflict was excellent and well thought out. Didn‘t see the solutions coming!! Overall an excellent ending to a series I wasn‘t initially keen on, definitely finished on a high note :)

What a fantastic end to the trilogy, I couldn't put this down. For me this was a brilliant climax to the story and a satisfactory conclusion to the characters' arcs. Here's hoping that she writes more in this world.

I finished it finally and it‘s bittersweet! What an amazing trilogy! I loved the ending even if it wasn‘t exactly what I wanted for one character buuut still so good! I‘m sad it‘s over. It just has that perfect balance of high fantasy adventure, magic, friendship, humor, and a little romance!

Always makes me feel like a bit of a dodo to say a book is too long, but....this was too long. The writing is beautiful of course, and I‘m still so impressed with the world and story she created. But it just felt so dragged out and repetitive at times. Dara‘s chapters got too close to grimdark for me, too. Would still recommend the series if it sounds like your jam, but this kind of fantasy just isn‘t quite mine anymore, I think. 3/5 ⭐️

Good thing #BookSpin put this ABSOLUTE UNIT on my TBR this month, otherwise I‘m not sure when I would have had the motivation to pick it up. I definitely want to read it and finish this series! But it‘s a beast and I also have only vague memories of the second book. Just read a couple thorough recaps of it so hopefully I won‘t feel too lost in this one! #NowReading

What a great way to end the Daevabad trilogy! Nahri, Ali, and Dara all learn a lot about themselves as they all prepare to make their final stands. I absolutely loved the character development over the three novels and interwoven story lines. 100% recommend and what a great way to start the new year!

The Daevabad trilogy has been my favorite series in a long time. While the third book might be my less favorite, it is still quite interesting. The romance left me a bit indifferent, perhaps because I prefer the other ship (sorrynotsorry). Nonetheless, I absolutely loved the three POV characters. Nahri is, as always, the perfect mix between cunning and kind. Ali‘s discovery of his family history is compelling. And Dara... Dara made me cry. Twice.

This is the second hangover recovery box I‘ve purchased and the second that had major shipping delays. I swore I‘d never order another, but now that it‘s arrived, I know that I can be talked into one if it has a character plushie. 😍😍 I also love the mini book light. Not pictured are what I think are supposed to be exclusive dust jackets, but they appear to be too short to actually use. I‘ll have to flatten the out to be sure.

I finished this last book of the Daevabad trilogy yesterday and have been trying to compose my thoughts since.

I loved this series, including this book. Amazing world-building, a blending of Arabic mythology with fresh fantasy, and lots of political intrigue. But the best part was definitely the characters.

Nahri is a perfect heroine: a great back story in the human world, a gifted healer, and a badass magic wielder...

Cont‘d ⬇️⬇️

sprainedbrain she‘s independent and tough and does what needs done.

I wasn‘t nuts about Ali in the first book, but he grew on me in the second and became a strong favorite in this last book. He‘s the perfect good guy, best friend, younger brother...
1y
sprainedbrain Dara is the quintessential tragic character: thousands of years of enslavement, loneliness, and brutality as a hated, feared, and abused djinn. He has such great development throughout the series, but he just broke my heart.

The baddies are really bad. You feel for the various peoples of the magical world.
1y
sprainedbrain As much as I was hoping for a different ending for one character in particular, I am a grown-up woman and I can appreciate that Chakraborty ended this fantastic series perfectly.

Narrator for the whole series on audio is Soneela Nankani, and she is masterful. Maybe someday I will stop saying ‘Darayavahoush‘ in my head for no apparent reason, but I‘m fairly certain that won‘t be for a while.
1y
sprainedbrain ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ only because these books are all looooong (and get longer as they go along), and because I didn‘t get my ideal ending. Yes, it‘s all about me. 1y

This final instalment was perfect. You are pulled every which way as Nahri & Ali try to save Daevabad from a zealous Manizheh with a enslaved Dara as her weapon. Just when you think they are there, another obstacle & twist of what you thought you knew throws you off. Nahri is a great protagonist with so much strength & wit you fight with her & Ali. I wish I could forget this trilogy so I could discover it all again & let it steal my heart again.
