I found myself in a bit of a reading slump, bailed on 4 books in a row! It‘s definitely me. I will reattempt them all soon.
Sooo, I decided to go to the LA Times Festival of Books for inspiration. Plus my TBR mountain needed to grow. 😂

Great event! Great authors! My favorites were Kristin Hannah & Sadeqa Johnson, and they were on the same panel! Such inspiring women! I found several new to me authors & I supported my local Indies! #bookhaul

Leftcoastzen I went a couple of times , great festival! 12mo
LeeRHarry I would love to go to this festival and I have friends in LA but I never visit them at the right time 😆 glad you enjoyed it 😊 12mo

Texas Book Festival is this weekend! I spent an hour or so today figuring out which panels I‘m going to see- always a tough decision with so many authors!

Anyone else planning on attending?
#TexasBookFestival #TxBookFest

AmyG Have a wonderful time!!! 1y
Christy2318 My friend and I are going to see Janet Evanovich. I wasn‘t very excited by any of the panels this year. 1y

Hooked_on_books That‘s so exciting! I‘ve loved the author talks I‘ve been to. 1y
Soubhiville @Christy2318 Have fun! There aren‘t a lot of authors I‘m very familiar with, but a lot of the panel topics sound good. I‘m looking forward to the environmental ones. 1y
Fortifiedbybooks I miss the Texas Book Festival. I've been to a couple of other similar events in the different states I've lived in since leaving Texas, but none of them are as great as the Texas Book Festival! 1y

Yesterday the inaugural Green Mountain Book Festival took place in Burlington, Vermont. Be prepared, there will be many posts. There were 38 authors in total. First of all I had no idea that so many of the writers involved live in Vermont. We have an abundance of excellent authors here. Here is Jay Parini, professor at Middlebury College, author of Benjamin‘s Crossing (so good) and The Last Station (about Tolstoy). Brett Ann Stanciu [cont.)..

Suet624 Was a surprise standout. I would not have picked up her book if I hadn‘t heard her speak about it. A librarian in a very small town in Vermont talked about addiction and how she and her town were personally affected by it. She was so eloquent and honest that I know her book will be too. (edited) 2y
BarbaraBB What an evening you must have had! Fantastic! 2y
Suet624 @BarbaraBB it was an all day event so I was home by 6 pm. Today there is more and I should really be there but I need to do laundry, etc. You know how that goes. 2y
Megabooks Sounds like a great time!! 2y
Suet624 @Megabooks it was. I think I wasn‘t expecting it to be as rejuvenating to my soul as it was. I‘m an introvert who often backs out of events. I knew for sure I was going to go to this, but it surpassed my expectations and I feel so grateful to have experienced so much writerly stimulus. 😀 2y

A year ago yesterday, I was crossing an #ocean to return home from our lovely Northern Europe cruise. A year ago tomorrow, I was at a local book festival. With little fanfare or notice, that festival didn‘t happen this year. Likewise, probably to the surprise of nobody, the #NationalBookFestival is going virtual this year. I‘ll post more information as I find it. #boundtogetherjune

I just found out the Hays Book Festival has gone virtual this year - and it‘s free. I may not be able to attend many of the panels/talks because of the time difference... but I‘m going to try to attend as many as I can (and definitely the one with my boy Benedict C)

Festivalgoers can explore the full programme and register to take part at hayfestival.org/digital

Free virtual events this week! I was really looking forward to attending the inaugural Paper Plains Festival this week in person. Luckily, many of the originally scheduled authors will be able to join in online. Events are free, register at https://www.paperplains.org/events

vivastory I was planning on attending too. Looking forward to the virtual events. 4y
inthegreensandblues @vivastory May I ask, are you from around here then? I live in Lawrence. Before the pandemic I'd been pondering doing a litsy meetup in KC... I'd like to when it's safe, if people are interested. 😄 4y

Meredith & Tara attended #yallfest for the first time this past weekend and had a BLAST! They went with their friends, Aliza, Michelle, and Naomi, who are veteran Y‘allfesters, and they fit in a bunch of panels, signings, and of course grabbed a whole lot of ARCs (advanced reader copy) of Young Adult books that are being published next year. (This pic is the book haul for all 5 ladies, and a few of their own books they brought to get signed.)

LibrarianRyan Nice!! 4y

I think Mom and I had fun at the Bookmarks NC book festival...😆😆 I got to meet and have books signed by Margaret George and V. E. Schwab and This introvert totally made a fool out of herself chatting with Tea Obreht and Michael Parker. 🤦🏻‍♀️ #soawkward #hufflepuff

Lcsmcat I was there today too, but it sounds like we were at different events. Did you go to Margaret George‘s talk? I met Mary Doria Russell- she‘s amazing! 5y
Melissa_J I wish this city would have a book festival! Sounds like you had a great time. 5y
DGRachel @Lcsmcat I‘m sorry I missed you! I didn‘t see Margaret George‘s early talk about Mary Queen of Scots with the opera company, but I did see her in a panel discussion on writing stories with known characters/historical figures at 3:45. She‘s brilliant. 😍 5y

DGRachel I also saw Mary Doria Russell in a historical fiction panel and I agree - she‘s amazing. And funny! @Lcsmcat 5y
MallenNC Sounds like you had a great day. I‘m going to make it to that festival someday. 5y
Lcsmcat @DGRachel We went to the earlier opera-sponsored presentation. It was clear that she knew her stuff, but there were technical issues. My favorite was the Book Club Spotlight with Russell, Sarah Blake, Tif Marcelo, and Rajiv‘s Hassib. 5y

DGRachel @LeahBergen She was truly lovely. ❤ And funny. She told a great story about taking pictures for research on her Mary Queen of Scots book where she wasn't allowed to take pictures. Absolutely delightful! 5y
