Pan's Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun
Pan's Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun | Cornelia Funke, Guillermo Del Toro

Fans of dark fairy-tales like The Hazel Wood and The Cruel Prince will relish this atmospheric and absorbing book based on Guillermo del Toros critically acclaimed movie. Oscar winning writer-director Guillermo del Toro and New York Times bestselling author Cornelia Funke have come together to transform del Toros hit movie Pans Labyrinth into an epic and dark fantasy novel for readers of all ages, complete with haunting illustrations and enchanting short stories that flesh out the folklore of this fascinating world. This spellbinding tale takes readers to a sinister, magical, and war-torn world filled with richly drawn characters like trickster fauns, murderous soldiers, child-eating monsters, courageous rebels, and a long-lost princess hoping to be reunited with her family. A brilliant collaboration between masterful storytellers thats not to be missed. Perfectly unsettling and deeply felt, this reminded me of the best kind of fairytales wherein each chapter is a jewel that, when held up to the light, reframes how we see the world around us. Roshani Chokshi, New York Times bestselling author of The Star-Touched Queen and Aru Shah and the End of Time A fearless and moving adaption of the film, and a gorgeously written, emotional, frightening parable about the courage of young women amid the brutality of war. I loved this movie when I first saw it, so when the book came out recently, I knew I had to read it. 💚

The illustrations are so amazing! Yet again I was transported to a world were magic exists and creatures and humans work together to overcome the terrible tragedies that humans inflict on one another. Very well done. 😍

This book is listed in the Juvenile section, but it might not be appropriate for all young readers due to the violence.

hannah-leeloo I have this book. Not read it yet 2mo

I was a little hesitant to read this b/c it was shelved as YA, and one of the aspects of the movie I loved was that it so perfectly captured the essence of fairy tales: gaping wounds, murdered children and all! Thankfully, Funke's novelization is every bit as dark and magical as Del Toro's film.

Can I just say this is the best book I've read in a long time, better even than _Convenience Store Woman_? Holy moly. Maybe it's because I loved the movie so much, but goodness.

Book was pretty good. It did have sketches throughout the book which I missed when i picked it up. I think this brought in more stories and background of the mill that I don't think was in the movie? Have to rewatch!

For lovers of fairytales. This one was creepy good and very beautifully read by Thom Rivera. His accent was perfect.

Good Morning Everyon. It's the last week of the month so it is time for

#CoverLove #YAedition

We are starting out with Pan's Labyrinth. I love this movie and can not wait to see what master storyteller Funke does with it.

Out July 2 (in the US)

litenthusiast I'm really looking forward to this. I'm so curious about it. 5mo
LibrarianRyan @litenthusiast I am hoping it does not just follow the movie, but is more of the story the Faun sees, and the legend he tells. 5mo

I‘ve just preordered this - I‘m a big fan of del Toro and was deeply disappointed when he left the production of The Hobbit movie. Pan‘s Labyrinth was a film that totally freaked me out (you know which scene I‘m talking about) but I felt that a novel would do it far more justice. Soooo excited to read this with Cornelia Funke on the team too!!!!

Susanita My favorite movie that I‘ll never watch again. It took the entire credits for me to compose myself. 5mo
Martyn_J_Pass @Susanita I know! But that scene at the table with the monster was perhaps the most tense, terrifying thing I‘ve ever watched. Master film making right there. 5mo

1. Purple Hibiscus by Adiche💜
2. Crazy Rich Asians. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #unpopularopinion
3. The tagged book, I guess.
4. Read more books than last year. Also, re-read an old favourite.
Yet to re-read.

Karisa I didn't like Crazy Rich Asians as a novel until I saw the movie. All the brands and luxury items did not make sense until I saw them on the big screen. Then I got hooked on the characters' dramas. 😂 5mo
BiblioLitten @Karisa I think I‘ll like the movie better. It‘ll be a visual delight!😁 5mo
