Questions after reading the start of a great but unfinished series:
1. Why isn't there more if it?
2. When will the next book be released?
3. WHY isn't there more if it?
4. When will it be acceptable to reread the books - do I need to wait until the next one is published?
5. REALLY! Why isn't there more of it?
6. How can any book I pick up next be even half as interesting as these?

... Guess I'm in for a little post book depression 📚 ...

The chapter a day concept just doesn't seem to work for me 😂 I finished The Fellowship of the Ring on Thursday, and started with my Harry Potter reread. I'll jump in again for The Two Towers when #FellowshipofTolkien starts with it.

JazzFeathers I love that edition. I'll have to get it, sooner or later 😆 4y
Sisasuku @JazzFeathers It looks so pretty, doesn't it? But be careful, it's actually super tiny. The script in the books as well. I read The Fellowship of the Ring on my Kindle, and mostly bought the books for my shelves. 4y

I had forgotten about the Hobbits' tradition of birthday gifts - instead of getting presents at your birthday, you give away presents to your friends 🎁 That is so lovely, maybe I'll do it this year? Anyway, save travels to Bilbo - I'll see you later 🏞️ #FellowshipofTolkien

Allylu I was thinking the same thing! 4y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Lovely but potentially expensive? I liked that they didn‘t necessarily have to be new. And if giving them out in such a big way - probably not personalised but rather more general like toys for children, scarves for adults? 4y

This was a #reread for me, as I originally fell in love with the books when they were released - and I'm still in love after all those years. Fantastic characters, a well thought through story, and even when you start to sense the wider scheme of things, you still have no clue how it will end.

I read this for a science fiction book club, and else I probably would have bailed. I find the ideas actually very interesting, but the story feels disconnected and everything is just mashed up. I don't get the heroine or her emotions at all.

The Complete Wheel of Time | Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson

I finally (!!!) finished my mammoth reading project, The Wheel of Time. Why mammoth project? I first started reading the books ~15 years ago, stopped after book 6, picked up the next book years later, stopped another 6 books later. Was frustrated because I lost the threads of a lot of subplots. Found the ebook collection and started reading in April 2018. Finished yesterday 😁 (FYI I also read around 40 other books during that time)

sprainedbrain What an accomplishment! My uncle keeps telling me I would love these books, but so far I‘ve been too intimidated. 😬 4y
Sisasuku @sprainedbrain They are amazing in the end. But I found the whole middle part of the series (books 5 to 10 or so) very hard to read because nothing really happens. Still, the world and the characters and the magic system is so vast, and the last 3 books I literally read in 2 days each. 4y
Cheshirecat913 That is definitely an undertaking! Well done. I stopped at book 6 too, like 16 years ago. Ahhh, I cannot believe it was that long ago. Maybe one day I will come back. 4y

This book is about six people living at different times. The stories are linked to each other, some more so than others. Each one is written in a different style, and sometimes different grammar and spelling.

I Ioved the variety and how everything fit together eventually. But there were two stories which I didn't like for themselves, and while in the end they had their place for me in the book, reading them was a kind of hard for me.

DivaDiane Which stories didn‘t you like? I disliked the first/last one, but I think that was mostly due to the narrator doing a bad job. 🙉 6y
Sisasuku @DivaDiane Totally understand the problem with the narrator, I'm really picky when it comes to audiobooks! I was absolutely annoyed with the fourth story, Timothy Cavendish (the publisher). Or with the first 90% of it. And had the same problem with the middle story. My favorite was Sonmi, which one was yours? Generally I liked the second half of the book better than the first. 6y
DivaDiane I also really liked the Sonmi section too (that‘s also the only part of the movie that I even vaguely remember). I laughed a bunch of times during the Cavendish section, so I guess I enjoyed it. Otherwise, in order of preference: Sonmi, Luisa Rey, Frobisher, Cavendish, Old Georgie, Adam. 6y

Overall these are nice YA books, BUT. My biggest complaint is the love story here. I just didn't feel it. I didn't get why Tris loves Tobias. To me he was incredibly one dimensional. Guy with a horrible childhood and blue eyes. Oh wow. Is there more to him? And all their relationship ups and downs felt so cobbled together from other books, including all the same cheesy phrases used a 1000 times before. 😴😪😴

Sisasuku Don't read my next comment if you know nothing about the books! HUGE spoiler concerning the ending! 6y
Sisasuku I got interested in the books because I heard that the MC dies at the end. I mean George Martin also did it, but he had more than one MC. And after reading the books, to me that is the only really interesting thing happening here. And I like the YA distopian save-the-world thing. I LOVED The Hunger Games. But the Divergent series just isn't for me. 6y

The narrator here is fighting his way through bureaucracy, plots, counter plots, counter counter plots, lies, conspiracies, and everything else you can imagine that could exist in The Building - a third Pentagon, set around 500 years in the future. The whole purpose of The Building seems to be generate work for people.

While the book was entertaining, sometimes the plot and conversations were so confusing I lost track of what was being said.

Counting Stars | David Almond

I don't want to sound rude, but: Why do so many people here give stars in their reviews? I mean, litsy has a rating system for the reviews, but a lot if people add a rating based on (I guess) five stars.

Do you feel it's not accurate enough?

jfalkens I add stars sometimes because that's what Goodreads and Libib is on. I find Litsty's rating system far superior tho. 6y
quietlycuriouskate I add stars now and then to differentiate between a good pick *** and an outstanding one ***** 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf A pick for me can be anywhere from a 3 star book to 5 star book so sometimes I give stars to differentiate. 6y
See All 7 Comments
Kaye I think a star rating can help me explain a bit better than the sideways hand doohickey. There are books I give that to, that really aren‘t bad, I‘d rate them a 3 or a bit higher, but I don‘t think that rating deserves a thumbs up. A 5 deserves a thumbs up. (edited) 6y
Sisasuku @River_Voice @Kaye @irre Hm, for me a litsy pick would be a five or four star book, a litsy so-so a three or four star book. I inrerpret the so-so rating as "I liked it well enough, but had some minor issues with it". It's a good book but not a great one. But I feel like image if the hand is irritating. If it would be turned around by 180 degrees, it would look much more positive. 6y
Sisasuku @jfalkens I actively refuse to use the five star system on Litsy. I feel the litsy system gives enough information, and everything else should be in the review text anyway. 6y
Kaye I think it‘s everyone‘s choice whether to use stars or not. I honestly don‘t care either way. When I review books, I like to give a prospective buyer an accurate opinion. I think it‘s more accurate to give numbers, but don‘t mind using the hand thing too. My 3s mean it was good enough to hold my interest and finish the book, but I wouldn‘t read it again. I don‘t judge how others rate their books. (edited) 6y

I've read this cover to cover in less than 24 hours. I'm rating it so-so because honestly some of the reasoning in there seems extreme, or just too esoteric for me.

But essentially I'm with her on drastically reducing what you own, and on the basic storage principles she uses. If your home or life feels cluttered and overwhelming, I think reading this book may give you an insight why and how to start dealing with it.

AmandaL I read both this and the manga version, and I liked the manga version better. I agree with your review. Some of the ideas were great, but others I found pretty extreme. 6y
Sisasuku @AmandaL Is there any new information in the manga? Im not sure if I should get it. Thinking a bit about the book I noticed that her more extreme measures were actually mostly stories about how she decluttered her own things. I think she probably wrote those as an example how she decides. But somewhere it specifically says that that the things that spark joy are different for everybody. 6y
AmandaL There's no new info in the manga. I think I liked it better because it was a more compact version of the book. 6y

I read this book as bedtime stories to myself over the last two nights, and they're just lovely. Like fairytales from the Harry Potter universe. I could imagine reading some of those to my (not existing) own children. The notes by Albus Dumbledore are amusing, thoughtful and give a deeper look into the world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts. And the drawings added to the tales make them just a little more special.

#HipHobbInto2018 @GrilledCheeseSamurai

My favorite fantasy book? Way too hard to choose. But those are some of my "hidden gems", and of course the almighty master Terry Pratchett (Pyramids is not my favorite by him, but the first one I found in my moving boxes). The Lies of Locke Lamora is one of the books I reread every few years, along with The Name of the Wind.

Btw, what's your favorite fantasy book?

GrilledCheeseSamurai Great picks! I still haven't read that Glen Cook series. It's been on my radar forever now. Gonna have to stack it to help remind me. I don't really have 1 absolutely favorite...but the Memory Sorrow and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams is one that means alot to me! 6y
Cheshirecat913 I got my husband the Black Company books one Christmas. Still haven't read them myself though. 6y
Sisasuku @GrilledCheeseSamurai I dimly remember starting the Dragonbone Chair about 15 years ago and finding it incredibly boring. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime. Back in those days I mostly read fast paced "shallow" fantasy stuff. 6y
Sisasuku @GrilledCheeseSamurai @Cheshirecat913 I had a bit of a hard time getting into the first book of the Black Company, but after some time I was hooked! Read the whole series without taking a break for another book. If not for my mountainous TBR pile I'd do a complete reread of the series. 6y
