Came away from this feeling a little grubby - a sordid little scenario with fairly loathsome & irredeemable characters. Which was exactly how I was supposed to feel. Nicely written, a little slow, but with a strong & evocative sense of place - the end of season resort, the last of summer seguing into autumn & the attendant melancholia. The final summary of Henry & Effie's life was just too depressing - not entirely sure I enjoyed this.

Starting this one tonight. Lots of different cover variations, I really like this one - it has a very nonchalant glamour!

A novel full of lust, love, infidelity and betrayal. Cape May is a beautiful place with the ocean lapping at the sand. Honeymooners Effie and Henry spend time trying to get to know each other. They meet Clara, Max and Alma. Not the typical romantic honeymoon. 3/5⭐️

#ThoughtfulThursday is a bit different this week. It‘s been a week filled with A LOT of stress & emotions. So, I want to fill our feeds with peaceful things 😌☮️

I was really looking forward to this based on the blurb, but it didn‘t live up to its promise.

Still a light pick though, but it was a bit too trashy, with a lot of sex scenes told from the male POV, which meant a lot of penis admiration! 🤨

This had potential but just ended up feeling flat.
Can‘t love them all!

I'm so glad to have finished this book. I don't think I have hated a character as much as I did Henry in a very long time.

Plan for the rest of the day...try to wrestle this away from Peace, and read some more of this one...which isn‘t really the greatest (god I HATE Henry) but I‘m determined to finish.

Just me and my Adele girl resting before a long trip this morning. Not sure how to tell her I‘m finished reading and need to get up and get ready.

Effie and Henry are newlyweds who find themselves honeymooning in deserted Cape May. Upon reuniting with old friends from Effie's childhood, both partners begin to explore their sexuality and bounds of marriage. Despite mixed reviews, I found this to be a quick and interesting read. There is a lot of sex occuring and it's told from a man's perspective but frequently we cheer for books that do this from a woman's perspective (50 Shades). ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I wanted to like this book so much more than I did. The end got a bit crazy sexually and it left me a bit unsettled.

I knew this book would be trashy, but it was worse than I imagined. It was a poorly written faux erotica masquerading as wannabe literature (or maybe this is the kind of romance men like to read?). I was fine with it being bad until there was such a chasm of consequence between the male and female protagonists following the events of the book. It feels like this book missed an opportunity to make a comment rather than pulling a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ #cattail

A newlywed couple go on honeymoon and meet up with an old friend of the bride who gets them involved in a decadent summer party lifestyle and leads them astray. An idea #summerread, this draws comparisons with the Great Gatsby. It's poignant at times, but a great read.

I was really looking forward to it but turned out to be such a disappointment. This book was not good... not much else to say. 😂

Thank you NetGalley and Celadon Books for an Advanced Reader‘s Copy of this book. I have to say the book blurb does not match up to this story. It is written as psychological suspense which is it not. This is a pretty messed up story about a newly wed couple who ends up hanging out with a not so great group of people durning their honeymoon., This book made me feel really icky and dirty. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this one.

Library haul today - one for IRL book club (A dictionary of mutual understanding), one I heard about on the @ReadingEnvy podcast ( Cape May) and sounded up my alley, and one I don‘t remember why I requested! Should be interesting! Lol #libraryday

I was swept up in this beach read set in the 1950‘s, of a young married couple on their honeymoon in Cape May. This book takes the reader on a journey from dumb, young innocence to sultry, sexy lust. Chip Creek has created this story (fantastic writing and gorgeous beach scenes) that shows how quickly one action can lead to a dizzy, winding path that will forever change the participants. I loved the book, but it was too steamy for my taste.

Cape May is a book With a lot of references to sexual acts and body parts. It may not suit all, but never did I feel they were inappropriate or gratuitous. Chip Cheek is taking the reader on a voyage of self-discovery with The main characters, Effie and Henry, and the journey isn‘t always a comfortable one. I thought Cape May was sensitively and honestly written, atmospheric and affecting. OI‘ll be thinking about it for some time.

Cape May gave me serious Great Gatsby vibes! Effie & Henry are on their honeymoon in 1950‘s Cape May. It‘s the off season, so they are bored and lonely until they fall in with a glamorous, free spirited crowd. Cape May is an exploration of love, adultery, and their consequences.

Cape May is a debut novel coming out from Celadon Books at the end of April, and I'm calling it - this is going to be one of THE summer reads of 2019. Coastal NJ in the off season, 1957 newlyweds and plenty of shenanigans with the only other people at the shore. Will this marriage survive?
If you don't like to read sex this is not the book for you.

I recieved this book from a goodreads giveaway and am giving my honest opinion. This book started a bit slowly, but honestly I think that was the point. I really enjoyed this story. It's not a new story, it's been told, but I loved the way Chip told it.
I felt all the emotions reading this book.
Pick it up and give it a chance.
