Furiously Happy
Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things | Jenny Lawson
In Furiously Happy, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jenny Lawson explores her lifelong battle with mental illness. A hysterical, ridiculous book about crippling depression and anxiety? That sounds like a terrible idea. But terrible ideas are what Jenny does best.As Jenny says: "Some people might think that being 'furiously happy' is just an excuse to be stupid and irresponsible and invite a herd of kangaroos over to your house without telling your husband first because you suspect he would say no since he's never particularly liked kangaroos. And that would be ridiculous because no one would invite a herd of kangaroos into their house. Two is the limit. I speak from personal experience. My husband says that none is the new limit. I say he should have been clearer about that before I rented all those kangaroos."Most of my favorite people are dangerously fucked-up but you'd never guess because we've learned to bare it so honestly that it becomes the new normal. Like John Hughes wrote in The Breakfast Club, 'We're all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it.' Except go back and cross out the word 'hiding.'"Furiously Happy is about "taking those moments when things are fine and making them amazing, because those moments are what make us who we are, and they're the same moments we take into battle with us when our brains declare war on our very existence. It's the difference between "surviving life" and "living life". It's the difference between "taking a shower" and "teaching your monkey butler how to shampoo your hair." It's the difference between being "sane" and being "furiously happy."Lawson is beloved around the world for her inimitable humor and honesty, and in Furiously Happy, she is at her snort-inducing funniest. This is a book about embracing everything that makes us who we are - the beautiful and the flawed - and then using it to find joy in fantastic and outrageous ways. Because as Jenny's mom says, "Maybe 'crazy' isn't so bad after all." Sometimes crazy is just right.

#ReadHarder challenge 19: a humour book. Specifically, a funny book about horrible things.

There‘s a quote from The Breakfast Club that goes “We‘re all pretty #bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it.” I have it on a poster but I took a Sharpie to it and scratched out the word “hiding” because it reminds me that there‘s a certain pride and freedom that comes from wearing your unique bizarreness like a badge of honor. #QuotsyOct19

Today, on my birthday, I finished re-reading Jenny Lawson‘s “Furiously Happy”. I have always enjoyed Lawson‘s writing and I adore her humor, but I don‘t think I appreciated this book as much the first time I read it compared to now. This book is filled with humor, outrageous stories of Lawson‘s life, living with mental illnesses, and just plain weirdness. Overall, this book is something you didn‘t realize you needed until you read it.

Bookjunkie57 Happy Birthday!!! 3mo

This quote from Jenny Lawson‘s Furiously Happy kept popping into my head on Tuesday as my family and I traveled back home from our vacation in Maine. The airport and our flight were full of jerks. This quote helped me keep my cool (somewhat)!

Also, this book is amazing and hilarious and you should read it. Be prepared to LOL.

It was a little awkward reading this in a coffee shop because I just could. Not. Stop. LAUGHING. This girl is a blogger and is writing about all the awkward things she does to avoid her anxiety and how it makes it worse. I wonder if my husband will ever find me with a racoon in the kitchen at 3:00?🤔😂

Hestapleton I listened to the audiobook with headphones on a family road trip to see relatives for Thanksgiving. I was CACKLING to myself in the backseat and I think my family was ready to leave me by the side of the road! 3mo

I don‘t like sharing “me stuff” but felt I should explain why I‘ve been slacking on Quotsy & Camp Nano. I‘ve been struggling with my mental & physical health (sza-bp+anxiety, diabetes) & trying to support my hubby emotionally & financially while he‘s off work. I‘m tired, overwhelmed & off-balance. But we‘re coping, living day by day. We know things will get better but sometimes it‘s hard to believe it. This quote hits home. I need this reminder!

I wanted to love this book and even thought I would because I love her Blog but just couldn't get through this one. And its not because I don't understand mental illness but everyone experiences it differently. I just felt there was more ramble than I could take. It had its moments but not enough for me. So I quit at Chapter 28 with 2 hours and 44 minutes. I can see why so many people love it but it just wasn't for me.

This definitely was a re-read, but I enjoyed it immensely again! Lawson‘s open, honest and very very funny style make this an easy read about a hard subject. I would definitely read more from her (I have read her first book too) as she‘s so engaging. And the kinds of tangents she goes off on are entirely relatable!

This book is amazing, but you do have to play close attention bc her stories are a bit tangential. But what I loved most about this book was that she explained mental illness with such elegant clumsiness, and decadent truth. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
