First read this ~50 years ago. Never forgot it. Bought it recently to induce my 14-y.o. daughter to read. She loved it, so I had to read it again. From my now seasoned perspective I may even appreciate this book more. I can see parts of almost every character in me as a youth (good and bad). This book took me back in time. So well written. So true. I look forward to “That Was Then, This Is Now“.

I know I read this at some point growing up, but damn, this packs a punch! A simple story on the surface, a slice of life look at a group of greasers, is told with such an honest, clear voice. Powerful characterizations, beautiful insights, I can't believe it was written by a 15 year old, but it totally makes sense that it was. I hope at least some schools still use this as required reading...

We have a couple trips planned for June, so I likely won't read everything I'd like to, but I am excited for V.E. Schwab's new book, as well as S.A. Cosby's.

Okay, I get it now. I never had anyone assign this, so I just never got around to it. Now I feel all sorts of wrecked. What an incredible piece of writing - and SE Hinton was 15 when she started it?! Okay, brb, need to go track down her other work.

1. There was little good about me at a young age but this would be one. It started when I think a Second or Third Grade teacher pulled me aside; told me I shouldn‘t be getting B-s in school. And I never did again save for Math & Mathish Hard Science.

2. Characters in book, PonyBoy & SodaPop Curtis. I adored this book as a child. Less so when I had to read it twice in different schools. I‘d told my family (in jest!) I was set to marry Rob Lowe.

I listened to this while my stepdaughter reads it for English class….I was shocked that I loved it. There was a lot more compassion and tenderness than I anticipated for a book about a gang of teenage boys. I see why this is considered to be the start of YA fiction, even though most of what I‘ve read in the genre pales in comparison. My stepdaughter, she‘s still working on it, but she read ahead to the ending (what‘s with young people today?).

This book is so well written and real, one of my top reads from Febuary!

It‘s been 10 years since I read this book and I was glad to drive back in. Every laugh and every tear. Stay gold ⭐️

I have read and re-read this book and can say that it will always be a favorite. My own copy has definitely seen better days but the love I hold for this book is deep. I think everyone should read this book at least once in their lives and then stop to think about the message the author was trying to convey.

It looks a bit worn because it has been used a lot in our school - I never did so far, but I definitely will. I really liked this coming off age story and it doesn‘t feel like being old at all. I really like the way of fast-paced writing and enjoyed the somewhat hardened character of Cherry very much. She‘s definitely seen it all. 💪💪💪

Reading The Outsiders for the first time because we have a class set in school. It seems somewhat familiar even thogh I never read or watched it. Reminds me of all those underdog 80ies movies. 😊

Reading the second half of The Outsiders by S. E Hinton was an emotional rollercoaster. In the first half of the novel, we are introduced to the characters and their characteristics, as well as the outrageous rivalry between the Greasers and the Socs. However, the second half of the book is an entirely different book. the excitement of the book constantly left me transfixed, as the more I read the book, the more engaged I felt.

The Outsiders by SE Hinton is a superb book choice for practically anyone, and you can almost entirely guarantee they will enjoy it. This book is written In the first person perspective, where we see the view of the main character, Ponyboy living in a rough neighbourhood where the greasers and Socs have a teeth-gritting rivalry. Those who enjoy non-fiction drama, realistic fiction, or social issues books will find The Outsiders a perfect match.

1. My grandma passed away in 2021 so I have her crochet threads and hooks and I have her jewelry box too. I‘m trying to figure out what else to crochet with the thread. She used to crochet doilies but I want to do something different. I did crochet some tassels for some bookmarks I made.

2. Tagged! I enjoyed this book. I liked the friend group in here. My mom told me that the movie is really good but I haven‘t seen it.

amazing really let me see how messed up our society is but this book is so raw i love it so much its in my top favs

First time reading The Outsiders and I‘m conflicted. At times, the fact that Hinton was 14 (or 15 depending on your sources) when she wrote the original draft works to its advantage.

At other times, Hinton‘s lack of experience is evident and it pulled me from the story in a big way.

Still, I liked it for the most part. I do question, though, that if it hadn‘t basically made the YA genre would it be as pertinent and beloved today?

Time for a reread.

Another modern classic. This book always reminds me of my dad and his brothers. I can see why so many middle schoolers love this book bc it deals with (very sensitively and lowkey subtly) living in circumstances that you want to rise above. Even tho it‘s sad as shit I think this book makes middle schoolers more sensitive

This is my new favorite book, so raw and really made me take a look at how messed up society is and I have begun looking at the world and people in general with a new view. Love it so much and for once the movie was almost exactly the same as the book which made me happy. Also Dally is the best character by far.

Movie: West Side Story

I believe this is the fourth time I‘ve read this book. I finally got my own copy. I loved it as much as the first time, many years ago in junior high. Now to watch the movie again.

Wow, I just finished this book yesterday, and it was probably one of the best books I have read this year. This book shows the constant battle between the Socials, the higher class, and the Greasers, the lower class, in the 1960s through the eyes of a 14 year old “Greaser” named Ponyboy. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author!

This might end up as one of my new favorite books. The characters are entertaining and feel incredibly real. Their relationships with each other make you want to root for them, and the end is absolutely heartbreaking.

The outsiders is a book about a 14 year old boy named pony boy. It talks about his struggles with the right and wrong and society, and he happens to believe that he is an outsider he is in a gang called the greasers, and they have a problem with the socs I really liked this book because it was fun to read and easy to understand it tells a good story as well The main theme of the outsiders is identity versus group identity.
