When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.

This is my favorite version of the cover for this book. It looks GREAT.
Hanging out with Ponyboy Curtis!

Read with my middle school son for the first time. Very classic. Loved every minute. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“ Stay gold Ponyboy. Stay gold.” One of my all time favorite books and seasons.
I‘m Getting into the fall mood even though it‘s still in the 90‘s here in the Alabama beaches. Beautiful day!
I celebrated by making a new front door wreath and adding a little fall decor to my bike and window frame display. I thought about adding a fake book and may do that next. What do you think?
From The Oklahoman, a partial list of books that are banned or could be banned in the state of OK. And also they got Harper Lee's name wrong. Sometimes, I hate it here.
My #bookspin and #doublespin for September!
Looking forward to a great reading month! Thank you for hosting, @TheAromaofBooks

Today's pick is a classic: The Outsiders. I read this in middle school and loved it. I'm so happy my daughters have read this too. 😊

This is one of my favorite books and I‘ve never listened to the audio version, so I decided to rectify that. I‘ve lost count of how many times I‘ve now read this book!

"Of all of us, Dally was the one I liked least. He didn't have Soda's understanding or dash, or Two Bit's humor, or even Darry's superman qualities. But I realized that these three appealed to me because they were like the heroes in the novels I read. Dally was real. I liked my books and clouds and sunsets. Dally was so real he scared me."
Listened to this on our way to Nashville and we are finishing it up on our way back….

This might end up as one of my new favorite books. The characters are entertaining and feel incredibly real. Their relationships with each other make you want to root for them, and the end is absolutely heartbreaking.
I had field observations this semester and I decided to read this with the 7th graders! Watching their reactions and hearing their discussions was such a treat! I love how this book is still touching readers generations later!
Our purchases from the Lansing specialty book show! A found a Pratchett 1e he didn't already have and another fantasy novel. I grabbed one of the Gwen Frostic books I'm missing, the signed Hank Green, and the earliest copy of The Outsiders I've ever seen in person. Because I'm a functional human being the moment I picked it up off the shelf I started bawling. 😅🥰
Because, even before you get in the house you must know the residents are in love with books! 😉

Somehow, I missed this book the first 45 years of my life. I bet thousands of middle schoolers have learned to love reading because of this book. It‘s still gold all these years later.
I never read this one before, nor had I seen the movie, and I liked it a lot! Pretty cool that the author added a short intro saying SHE was only 16 when she finished this book, and that she wrote it because there was no proper representation of teenagers around that time. Wild!
I tend to recommend YA books in the fantasy genre. However, I have childhood favorites that I reread all the time & some have become my daughter's favorite.

Finally read this book and oh man, this was a flat out masterpiece! 🤤 Very rarely do I come across a book that I can say is truly perfect, but this is one. Well written, great characters, important messages, and deep emotionality. Truly one of the best books I‘ve read this year. If you‘ve never read this book, definitely check it out. And give the movie a view if you haven‘t. It‘s really good too! 🙂
Suggestion from my very surprised boyfriend when he found out I hadn't read The Outsiders. Would I still be tuff if I may or may not have cried a few times?
"Ponyboy can count on his brothers. And on his friends. But not on much else besides trouble with the SOCs, a vicious gang of rich kid whose idea of a good time is beating up "greasers" like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect - until the night someone takes things too far."
Top 3 books I've read this year:
Kindred by Octavia Butler
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett (never had read it before)
The Outsiders by S E Hinton (never had read it before)

Hadn't read this one since high school (which was 35 years ago) & we're going to a community theatre production of it tonight, so I wanted to revisit it. I didn't appreciate this book as a teenager, which makes sense. Easy to see why this is a classic.

1. The first one I remember is the death of Elvis Presley. I was 6 and had come in from playing outside with the neighbor kids. My mom was unloading the dishwasher and crying. I asked her why and she told me the King was dead. 😢
2. Bookstore 📚
3. Tagged book! 📖
If you want to play, consider yourself tagged! 🤗

1. I think I gotta give it to Ponyboy Curtis from the tagged book!
2. A sense of humor, sass, snark, but they also have to be kind with those traits!
If you want to play, consider yourself tagged! 🤗

One of my favorite movies so I thought I would listen to the book.
The complete novel movie -remade in 2017 with parts filmed in original but cut, is so much better than the original. SO much more like the book and ends MUCH better....
This ends my experience reading this book with an 8th grader until grandbaby hippie in 7 years. IF it is still in the curriculum.
I loved this! Clearly written by a young person, and the plot points/character depth could maybe be criticised if you were looking at it from a lit criticism perspective, but as a view of the world from a disadvantaged teenager and a great, fast story it‘s fantastic. I‘m going to get my teenagers to read it next.

'You read a lot, don't you Ponyboy?' Cherry asked.
I was startled. 'Yeah. Why?'
She kind of shrugged. 'I could just tell. I'll bet you watch sunsets too.' She was quiet for a minute after I nodded. 'I used to watch them too, before I got so busy...'
