Nope. Not for me. The audiobook made me dislike the book even more. Terrible narration. It's so hard to find authors that can write children's voices well. The dialogue was so cringy. I gave up after chapter 4.

Honestly, I need some serious time to recover after reading this psychological horror! Palpable with tension in a throat-gripping, edge-of-your-seat kind of way, this book is darkly desolate, purposely ambiguous, propulsive & almost suffocatingly foreboding. The readers' scepticism over the potential collective psychosis or apocalyptic scenario was as inconclusive as it was thought-provoking. In all the controversy over the ending, I LOVED it!
Honestly this was
So fucked up and I don't know
If I'll recover

Just too bleak for me…I say as I just finished a gothic horror novel that I loved. This one just wasn‘t for me.
What a weird book.
It might take me a while to form some cohesive thoughts on this. Great characterizations, some motivations are left open to interpretation of the reader, which is fascinating but makes it feel a bit undone. A quick & intense read.

I loved this! The beginning was so palpable with tension that I didn‘t realise I was clenched up until I got cramp. 🤣 disturbing and bleak, whilst touching on many relevant modern day topics. The whole narrative fit together nicely, whilst not being predictable. Will definitely look out for more of Tremblay‘s books.
Usually I don't listen to audio books because I end up doing a million things while playing them and I don't pay attention. I listened to this one on audio for my commute to work and the reader was atrocious. The story itself was good though. Do yourself a favor if you decide to read it and get the physical copy. I know I wish I did.
If you write a book and follow all the rules that you were taught, it might not work out. Here it didn't. I could feel the writing teacher, instructing “and here you have to do this, followed by that.“ That might be the reason why there's no atmosphere, no believable characters and no tension. Things were mentioned but no explanations were given at any point. I did not care the least for any of the characters. I was just glad it was over.
Home invasions and a cabin in the middle of nowhere are two of the scariest things I can imagine. That said, despite the extreme violence, this was a bit slow. It sort of had that slow tension-building common to '70s horror movies, but something was just missing for me.
I am struggling a bit with rating this book. I loved Wen, and the premise was intriguing. However, I did not enjoy the brutality, and the ending was very unsatisfying. #litsylovereads #marchmadness #marvellousmarch
I read this today as a book that‘s been on my shelf TBR for at least five years for #LitsyLove It was good. Not great but definitely held my interest as I read it today in one sitting. After reading it I don‘t think I‘d want to see the movie.

It‘s hard to believe #LitsyLove has been around for five years. Although I was gone for a year, the LitsyLove bunch has been wonderful! For this weekend‘s five year anniversary fun, I‘m reading the tagged book, which has been hanging around on my TBR for quite a while.
Tackle the TBR 🤓📚

What are you reading? 😊
Really liked this adaptation of The Cabin at the End of the World. Love this kind of movie.
My second favourite film with the word cabin in the title.
Did something I‘ve never done before: Stopped reading this book at 60% and went and saw the film. Unbeknownst to me,until I saw the film & went back to the book, I‘d paused at the exact spot the film & book change direction. The film finished better than the book which started off really well then lost steam. The book is good but where the film wins out is keeping the lives of the invaders ambiguous. Not knowing too much about them is more scary
Saw this one with my husband. I feel like it‘s best when you aren‘t expecting it to be exactly like the book. (But we all know books and movies don‘t end up the same). Either way, I liked the movie for what it was —- and Batista is such a great actor :) #BookToMovie
I saw the movie based on this book, Knock at the Cabin, yesterday and was so dissatisfied with the ending that I immediately downloaded the book and spent all morning reading it. Eric and Andrew are on vacation at a remote cabin with their daughter Wen when four strangers arrive, insisting they make an unthinkable choice to save the world. Both movie and book are heartbreaking and violent, but the book asks questions that the movie oversimplifies.
An engrossing read about decisions to be made in a pre- apocalyptic world. Eric, Andrew and their daughter Wen are faced with decisions and questions on what and who to believe. Are the voices in their heads real or is this just a home invasion gone bad? Dark reads are my genre and this fits right in. I would‘ve liked to know a little more with the ending, but it‘s probably better left to the reader‘s own imagination. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It‘s premier day for Knock At The Cabin!🎥
Based on the tagged book and produced by M Night!🖤

A week off Litsy for a trade show in Las Vegas but things are back to normal now.

In anticipation of the 02/2023 release of M. Night Shyamalan‘s movie adaptation, we‘ll be starting this this weekend.

I really liked the idea of this book and most of it had me needing to know more. But the ending.. a bit of a let down.
I think I need a Nick Cutter version of this book😂 although there‘s a chance I wouldn‘t be able to a stomach it🤢🤮😂
Thank you so much @MoonWitch94 The books sound fantastic and I can't wait to try the chocolate bombs 👻

📚📚📚📚 Quick paced and suspenseful read; apocalypse plot with pseudo-religious undertones (clues described in exposition but never outright declared) small twist. I didn‘t like the ending but understand the “why” of it
I didn‘t love the book - I found it lacking, but it‘s one of those stories that I think works better on screen, so I‘m excited about this!

And now this super terrifying book is a movie from M. Night Shyamalan.

dnf at 40%, i battled through bc i thought i would like it at the end but i couldn‘t anymore, this book just stressed me out thinking something was going to happen to Wen
It‘s interesting to hear about what scares certain people and what doesn‘t. This book gave me bad dreams! It wasn‘t exactly what I was looking for when I picked it, but it definitely hit the spot for scare factor, violence, and gruesome-ness. The author made some…interesting style choices that did take me out of the story a little.
I‘m still thinking about this. A very different horror book that was genuinely scary and I could not stop listening to. There were a few sections that got chaotic and hard to follow, though that may be the so-so narration of the audiobook. Definitely going to check more of this author! 4⭐️
#NSR22 - Horror Thriller/Supernatural? Maybe?
#AwesomeAugust #Readathon - book 3!
I chose this book on a whim. My brother and I were at a used book-sale and they had two copies. It was a joke purchase to read together, because it seemed like a corny end of the world story. But so far I‘m 100 pages in and I‘m actually into it. Anyone else read and like? No spoilers please!
It‘s best to know nothing about this book before going in. Even the summary on the back doesn‘t give you anything past the first chapter. But I will say this so you know what type of horror this is: home invasion.
The author noted he re-read Lord of the Flies before writing this, not so much for content, but for atmosphere/mind-set. And yeah, I can see that.
The writing was really well done. Perfect to keep you guessing what the reality is.
While my past experience with this author had me expecting a heavy dose of visceral horror, that's not quite what I got. I'm not sure how to describe this book. There's definitely some horror in it, & parts are horrific, but the frightening bits took a backseat to what seemed to be the focus of the plot, which was, perhaps, a study in existentialism in terms of horror? This was a weird one. I enjoyed it, but it was strange & a tad unruly.
Could someone tell me how this horrible book ends? I‘m at 68 percent of the audiobook and I just can‘t make myself finish it but I want to know how it ends. Choices have to be made.
Gay couple & their adopted daughter are enjoying a holiday in a cabin with no mobile phone coverage (alarm bells ringing?) suddenly 4 strangers turn up (alarm siren yet?)strangers believe that the couple have a role to play in saving the world (never ends well does it)
A tense novel & I could see it being made in to a fim & that ending is perfect. Yes in some ways I hated it but in other ways to try & clear things up would have been a let down.
Thank you @MaleficentBookDragon for the great box!

159 of 2021. I liked the premise of this book. I don't think it was executed as well as it could have been. Overall, a decent read. ⭐⭐ ⭐

My increasingly grumpy fur baby, Dresden, spent a good ten minutes grumbling about me not being in bed yet before finally settling down by the fireplace. It's obvious he's only tolerating my continuing to participate in the #readathon 🤣
One of my #readathon buddies finally made an appearance. I suspect he only showed out of interest in the warmth coming from the fireplace.
It's only a small fire, since it's already after 8, but it's the first in our new house and I absolutely love having a real fireplace instead of watching one on Netflix 😆 #readathon
I was craving comfort food, so the boyfriend ordered way too much food (the family pack) from Bob Evans. I love him because we now have food for several dinners and it's perfect for the cold gloomy weather. #readathon
I loved A head full of ghosts but this was so disappointing. It starts as a good premise, family in the woods get attacked by doomsday extremists but then it shoe horns every social debate you can think of and none of it really lands. I should have bailed! 🤦♀️
This was an audio book and the narrator was 😬😬. The plot was nonsensical to me. 3 hours into it & no suspension of belief at all.
