Jasmine Guillory ❤
Full on Romance novel- not my usual read, but liked it. A lot of PG-13 scenes in this one. Gushy, swoon- worthy love story.
Opened my #Swoonathon package today! Thank you @Kshakal for the lovely gift!💕 I can‘t wait to read the books you selected and enjoy the candy🥰
Thanks to @kimmypete1 and @MidnightBookGirl for hosting!

1. I have never received books for Valentine's Day, is that a thing?? 😳 I'm making it a thing now, I want a book bouquet 😂
2. I mean, any romance will do and there are so many great ones to choose from. I'm tagging one that was recommended to me recently 💕
Book Swap is one of my favorite Saturday morning activities. It‘s such a fun, clever idea and it introduces you to books in genres you may not normally read. Everyone draws a number (that‘s on a bookmark for you to take home) and after everyone talks about the book they brought, you go in order and choose a book to take home to read. If there‘s a book you really wanted but didn‘t get, the person can bring it back for the next meeting. #bookswap
So, look, the blurb on the cover says this is a “warm, charming, sexy gem of a novel,” but for whatever reason I wasn‘t expecting it to be quite so sexy. But, whew! It was! And, you know what, reading this book made me happy. I think I‘m going to start reading more romance novels from here on out.
I really enjoyed the first quarter of this book, but it feels like the entire plot happens in that first 25% and the rest just drags on. I wish there was more character development, because I like Alexa (the MC). Overall it was a cute story, i think I just had higher expectations for it.

1. None at all, very small bedroom!
2. Oh my god, all the books! Every book that I want to read at the beginning of the year!

4.Finally getting my second vaccine dose!
Great prompts!!
July books 9, 10, 11:
The Wedding Date by Guillory
The Midnight Library by Haig
Pride and Premeditation by Price
🤔 I‘m pretty lukewarm about all of these. WD was a simplistic romance, the beginning of ML was faintly triggering and the end extremely predictable, and P&P took too many liberties with the time period for a Pride & Prejudice retelling, even if it was marketed YA. 🤷🏻♀️Oh well. But am really the only one who didn‘t adore ML? Really?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was another reread - I love Guillory‘s books, and Alexa is probably one of my most relatable characters that she‘s written. There are some moments in this one that get a bit frustrating with how little confidence they have in their relationship, but it‘s also pretty realistic (which may be why it‘s annoying haha), so that‘s why it‘s 4 stars. But this one is funny, sweet, spicy - just so good!
This was a fun romance story and maybe the first I‘ve read with a Black main character in an interracial relationship. I liked all of the characters and that it was set in California, both San Francisco and Los Angeles. I don‘t want to say much else for fear of spoiling, but I‘m definitely going to read The Proposal which is next in the series.

✔️ And now I‘ve reached my first goal for #JoysOfJune with @Andrew65 !
Time for the #JoysOfJune Readathon!
My goal is to read
💍 The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory and
🧙🏻The Witches Are Coming by Lindy West.
✏️ 45 more pages of Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire
👻 finish Phantasmagoria and Other Poems by Lewis Carroll
Thank you @Andrew65 !
So far very cute. I have been having a hard time this year with my reading. Just can't seem to find the right book. Hopefully this will be it.
After reading Olivia‘s story, I went back to read Alexa & Drew‘s meet-cute. A sweet, sappy romance. I related to Alexa with the overthinking but not speaking up.
3.5⭐️ I had heard really good things about it and had planned on taking this to Mexico last May but Covid happened. I really wanted to like it, but felt that there were way too many sex scenes and not enough of Drew and Alexa just doing regular date things. Also the 4th of July party was super awkward and took too long to get through. #2021 #bookreview #bookstagram #romance #fiction #contemporary #litsyatoz #w #litsyatoz2021
Moving on to a lighter, hopefully more fun read, with The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory.
I've been reading a lot of true crime and nonfiction lately. This romance was a great way to break up the hard subjects and get lost in a different world for a while! Now, like Alexa, I want all the donuts and coffee.
I really have enjoyed the other books by Jasmine Guillory, and I am looking forward to this one!
It was a super cute book for what it was a cheesy little love story. Something very vanilla (with a bunch of sex scenes but even then they were pretty PG). Anyway it was a good impulse read for the season :)

Found this one on Libby. Needed a commute book :) anyway I‘ll probably finish this today (it‘s a quick cute listen) — lots of sex (maybe too much to listen to at work but... that‘s why we have headphones!)
3.2 🌟
Waaayyy to many sex scenes in this book, I could do some chapters without Drew and Alexa salivating one another. But hand up for the non typical protagonist!! Love colored, curvy, smart and successful women 💚

This is a pick if you're into romance because the main characters are cute and very relatable. I read this for Malala's book club and was expecting something not quite this light. But the premise while contrived was set up well.
Just finished this on audiobook. It was a cute, quick listen. It‘s your typical “pretend to be my girlfriend for this thing, then we‘ll fall in love” story. Perfect for right before Valentine‘s Day...if you‘re in to that short of thing. ❤️💘💝
The film The Wedding Date (2004) has a special place in my heart, so it was the title alone that had intrigued me, how the romance would play out, and if there would be any similarities to [16-year-old SPOILER] Debra Messing & Dermot Mulroney‘s whirlwind love story. Readers, Guillory is great, and she made sure this book had a little bit of everything. It was difficult to NOT immediately order the rest of the series. Looking forward to more!
Definitely between a Pick and a so-so! The characters felt super relatable, especially their inner monologues, the way they were constantly misjudging each other, assuming the worst, and getting in their own way. That felt like a mirror. I also liked their banter and their best friends. Ultimately, it felt maybe a little too uneventful, and I found myself skimming some parts to cut to the chase. Maybe I‘m just jaded right now, too 🤣
A classic story of miscommunication that frustrates the reader to no end. An enjoyable read, though not my favorite of characters.
Have I read romances that are a wee bit funnier, sexier, & better written? Yes, but that didn‘t stop me from enjoying the hell out of this book! I loved how absolutely, 1000% relatable both Alexa & Drew were, and the situations they grappled with felt really realistic without being overplayed or boring. Their scenes together were also so sweet. So while this book had its faults, I‘m glad I got to spend time with these adorable characters! ★★★½.
#currentlyreading | one day I may get sick of fake-dating romance novels but today is certainly not that day!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 okay so I LOVED this one. It was so sweet and cute and just a feel good story! I loved that the main character was such a powerful black woman with an amazing idea for her community. Loved!
It was fun. Unless I‘m reading an historical fiction novel, I‘m not expecting much realism. I think we‘re drowning in reality anyway.
There were a lot of parts of the story that were glossed over or unrealistic - but about what I‘d expect for a “romance” novel. Was fun & breezed through over a weekend.
Parts of this novel were cute, but there were too many parts that just made me cringe 😬 I really liked Alexa‘s character, and would have loved more about her life. Alas, this is a romance novel, and there was not much of a plot beyond the two main characters having sex, eating, and having more sex. Granted, the romance genre is not my thing, but I was hoping for more from this one. I also found the writing a little too basic. ⭐️⭐️
Getting close to a bingo! This was a quick read. I liked it for the most part but there was a middle chunk where it felt like nothing was happening. The plot was a little weak but it was a fun concept. Wedding date after getting stuck in an elevator, obviously a good idea! 🤣 #bookspinbingo
Sometimes you need a doggie snuggle and a #palatecleanser. This one fits the bill.
I really wanted to like this. There are aspects that I liked for sure. Meet cute ✅ Good banter ✅ Sexual tension without any bad descriptions ✅ but then also two people with no emotional intelligence at all. Honestly just have a grown up conversation, this book would have been 50-100 pages shorter and I probably would have loved it. I‘m reading more romance this year to support women authors. #blm #readblackauthors
So far it‘s cute but honestly let‘s stop using the word panties. Just stop!! 🛑 Unless you are five, it‘s gross and childish and I hate it! Just say underwear.
Ok rant over. For now. 😉
A cute, quick read, although I thought a lot of the relationship issues were glossed over and the steamy scenes were kind of meh. I‘m not sure I‘ll ever be a big fan of contemporary romance though - historical is the way to go for me. I‘m lucky I got to read most of it by the pool in this hot weather in the northeast US! #romantsy
I love a fake date trope. This was a cute romcom that also dealt with real issues.
