Enjoying the tagged book. I haven't read all three but I could see that this would be great as a tv series! Photo was my view of a historic square in Savannah.
ExcUSE ME, what gave this book THE RIGHT to break me like this?!?! This is an incredible story — phenomenally complex characters, the most incredible setting, & a deadly plot. Y‘all know I ADORE stories about bloodthirsty politics. But while you might come for the murderous, magical setting, you stay for the family, & the unforgettable characters — fierce, sweet, and all the shades in between. I can‘t wait to see where this goes next! ★★★★★.
Ugh, I just don‘t think Fonda Lee is an author for me... This is my 2nd book of hers I‘ve tried to read and bailed on. I got 150 pages into this book, put it down and have absolutely no desire to pick it back up again. I enjoyed it sort of, but it was really slow.. maybe I‘ll try again some other time 🤷🏻♀️
As for Women‘s War, I didn‘t read it yet, but I‘m returning to the library. I‘m not really in the mood to read it right now.
Starting this book today. The Get Booked podcast talked about it to fill the Game of Thrones hole in your heart. (I‘ll probably never read the GoT books, I‘ve tried to many times), but I love fantasy books.
Here is my stack of books I‘m going to be picking from this weekend. I‘ve already started a couple of them, but it‘ll be good to finish some of them.
My hubby is working at a friends house all weekend and then I‘m dog sitting, so not too much going on for me this weekend.
I‘ll be reading a lot in between exercising and probably some yard work/cleaning up trash on side of road.
I‘ve seen this in the library as I shelve books, and I‘ve finally had time to read it. So glad I did!!!! It‘s like The Godfather set in Asia, a very unique concept done beautifully. I was a little daunted by the size of this book, but it was so good that I zipped right through it. Sequel Jade War comes out in July and I can‘t wait!! #godfather #asianmafia #sogoodgirl
I don‘t even know where to begin... This one started off a touch slow for me, and just as I was thinking of setting it aside it hooked me. Wow. Nonstop action and intrigue. Family, duty, and honor. Power is in the jade and some will stop at nothing to get it, including drugs and grave robbing. Can‘t wait for book two! I can easily see this being adapted to the screen. Recommend 😊📚

Squidapus thought Jade City was pretty good! Gang warfare in a city newly free from foreign occupation with it's characters trying to find their identities under the weight of family and honor and magic rocks that give you kung fu powers! Hurt some by inconsistent characterization of it's leads and a lack of depth in it's political machinations, but with very good action and general plot. Still worth a read, Squidapus gives it 7 arms up!
This was an intense and tense filled read. Despite initial skepticism at such a male dominated world, I was won over with the character and world building. And, the introduction of Shae and Wen and how they developed made this a gripping read. If you are a fan of family dynamics mixed in with power, magic, marital arts and loyalty, this is the read for you.

I had been meaning to order this for our library but it just got donated by a patient! (I work in a hospital library that's like a smaller version of a public library)
Magic, fantasy, family crime drama, AND kung fu in an Asian inspired setting?! 😍💚
I think I know what I might be reading next❣#TGIF
If you want a story where there are easily defined boundaries to upholding family honour, respecting tradition and seeking revenge for wrongs done, do not read this book. If you want a novel about a society/family struggling for a balance whose ruling families have almost supernatural powers is upset by internal and external world influence, read this book.
I really liked the worldbuilding in this book but the plot just seemed to drag on forever. It took me four weeks to finish the book, while in comparison I read all of Obsidio in one day (in fact, instead of reading this!). It's part of a planned series and I might get the next one but...meh.
For Valentine‘s Day, we watched a film and just relaxed. He made me soup and vegetable gyoza too since I‘m still sick. However, my favourite part was the new shelf that Sir Betrothed got me for my annual TBRs. Since I keep that pile rather small, I‘m using the bottom shelves (not shown) to house the new anime I get for my anime haul vids. The shelf is also next to my regular anime shelf, haha. Seemed fitting. ✌🏽

A mix of eastern clan-wars, mixed with American gangster movies and an interesting, but not too overwhelming magic system based on Jade.
Action-packed is the wrong description, though, it is gripping, real fights are not the main focus. There were a couple of issues with pacing, but overall, I can only recommend this to anyone who likes to read fantasy that's a little different.
