In Jade War, the sequel to the World Fantasy Award-winning novel Jade City, the Kaul siblings battle rival clans for honor and control over an Asia-inspired fantasy metropolis. On the island of Kekon, the Kaul family is locked in a violent feud for control of the capital city and the supply of magical jade that endows trained Green Bone warriors with supernatural powers they alone have possessed for hundreds of years. Beyond Kekon's borders, war is brewing. Powerful foreign governments and mercenary criminal kingpins alike turn their eyes on the island nation. Jade, Kekon's most prized resource, could make them rich - or give them the edge they'd need to topple their rivals. Faced with threats on all sides, the Kaul family is forced to form new and dangerous alliances, confront enemies in the darkest streets and the tallest office towers, and put honor aside in order to do whatever it takes to ensure their own survival - and that of all the Green Bones of Kekon. Jade War is the second book of the Green Bone Saga, an epic trilogy about family, honor, and those who live and die by the ancient laws of blood and jade. The Green Bone SagaJade CityJade War

Of the three this might be my favorite. I think I has the overall best story, with the most action and the best overall flow. Really enjoyed how the war between no peak and mountain escalates and the stakes for higher.

Oh, my goodness! Definitely better than Jade City, especially the last few chapters. 🤌

Wanna start Legacy right away but it‘s already midnight where I am and last I checked, I‘m still a corporate slave. 🙄

kwmg40 Glad to hear you liked this one better than Jade City. I hope you enjoy Jade Legacy. I had a hard time putting it down. 8mo
lumbricuslibri @kwmg40 True enough. I think I‘ll finish Legacy faster than the first two. 8mo

This second book of an epic urban fantasy is excellent. This trilogy takes place in an alternate universe, with strong Asian inspiration. Our main characters are part of Green Bone Clan, a Yakuza-like family. In this world people gain power from Jade, which is viciously fought over and who controls its distribution. I will not go into details, but this is an excellent urban fantasy/family drama.😁

Nessavamusic It has genuine shock moments that kept me listening. I cannot wait to start book 3! 5⭐️ #24in4 #Readathon 12mo

#BackListReadathon

This past week I've read Jade City and now am mostly through Jade War. Great series, that I find pretty compelling. Will continue to the last of the trilogy, Jade Legacy when done with Jade War.

The first book was slow. This was a lot better as far as pacing and action. This series is starting to grow on me.

This series is so engaging every time I put the book down I am thinking of what will happen next and just emersed in the world. I get so attached to the characters that reading some of things happening to them gets quite difficult, this book is straining my heart. Really love this book and am so excited to jump into the third book immediately! I will recommend this series to anyone who likes fantasy

The rest of my February round up!

Jade War 5⭐️'s
Book 2 Green Bone Saga. So good!

Circe 4⭐️'s
I wish the plot were a little tighter, but overall a fantastic read.

To Be Taught if Fortunate 3⭐️'s
Chambers' writing is so character driven, that it needs more time to breath so that the reader can form an attachment. It was good, but if it were more fleshed-out (like her novels) it could have been great.

The #JubilantJuly readathon was a success, as I got through much of the Hugo Awards reading I wanted to do before this week's voting deadline. I finished my last 2 novels, my last novella and a bunch of short stories. #hugoawards #hugo2020

I also continued with my Aurora Awards (Canadian sci-fi/fantasy) reading with Best Novel nominee Jade War.

Thanks to @Andrew65 for hosting the readathon!

Andrew65 That‘s great 👏👏👏🙌🙌🥳🍾🥂 Thanks for playing along. 4y

I really liked Jade City and was excited to read the sequel! It dragged in some places, but overall was worth the wait!

i tried. i really tried but the continual exposition and clunky foreshadowing was too distracting. also, while i ~think~ the author might be purposefully pushing her main characters into v. dark territory (intriguing), murdering innocents (WTF?) crosses a line for me, stomping out all sympathy. 🥺 & i can‘t get past when MCs are suddenly stupid for a plot point. 👀 i know this series has mega-acclaim but 🤷🏻‍♀️ it‘s not the series for me.

starting this tome, second in the series. Jade City was really something so i expect similar gut-wrenching tribulations for the Kaul family here! 😧

Hilo, Shae, Anden, Wen, Bero, Mudt, and the rest are back. I‘ll admit to liking Jade City a bit better, but Jade War was more expansive. The clan travels overseas (Anden) and there‘s even more political wrangling. Jade and shine still play a huge role as well. Lee is great at world building and creating a complex but believable empire for her characters to maneuver around in. Jade Legacy should be interesting when it‘s released!

What a phenomenal follow-up! It was incredibly refreshing to see issues of post-colonization sovereignty & diaspora grappled with in an epic fantasy. An epic fantasy with heart-wrenching characters like the Kauls (especially Hilo 😭💔), & a stunning world like Kekon, no less. The plot moved a little fast, but all in all this is an absolutely gripping series with unforgettable characters & a world you‘ll never want to leave. ★★★★☆.

Fonda weaves together an impressive amount of threads to create a rich and colourful tapistry of a story. A tale of family and honour, gangsters and power, following one‘s heart and finding one‘s place, Jade War will leave you satisfied in ways you never knew possible... and wanting more with every chapter.

Got a visit from a favourite author at the store today (she‘s in town and came by to sign our stock of her books). Fonda is amazing as a person and an author. She even brought me an ARC of her newest book (due out July 23)!
