I was planning on doing a nice few hours reading tonight, but fell down a rabbit hole of The Hoof GP on YT. So for five hrs I‘ve been watching a bunch of garrulous Scotsman grinding cows feet & getting covered in shite. I wanna go to Scotland, it‘s the home of my ancestors whom actually come from the same area of south west Scotland so it feels like home. Maybe one day before I die😮💨🇦🇺🏴
Can‘t seem to settle on a book at the moment, so I thought why not? Let‘s start a reread of a seventh series!🤷🏻♀️So my poor battered 35yr old copy of the 1st book in The Wheel Of Time is getting another, very careful, read. I REALLY need to put my originals on a special shelf & replace them with new hardcovers. I‘d love one of those special edition sets that cost a bomb but I‘m too poor💸 #JumpStart2025
It would have been helpful to know from the start that there was a glossary at the end of the book. Though I would have preferred some in-story explanation of the lore. It felt like it was well-developed world building, but the main characters already knew what an Aes Sedai was, for example, and why people hated/feared them, but the rationale was never really explained to the reader. Just so-so, but I plan to eventually read the whole series.
@RaeLovesToRead has questions, y‘all! #IHaveQuestions
Spring - “The Eye of the World” by Robert Jordan. There is even a theme of rebirth throughout. @Branwen approves of this choice! 😁
Summer - “The Golem and The Jinni” by Helene Wecker. A perfect summer story of two strangers finding each other… except that an evil magician is hunting them!
Fall - “Clown in a Cornfield” by Adam Cesare.
Winter - “Winter Witch” by Elaine Cunningham.
I bought the first two box sets (books 1-6) of The #Wheel of Time several years ago & have yet to read a single one. This is the most intimidating series I own. Not only because of how long the series is (14 books) but I always hear about the slog, which seems to vary. Some people say it is one book & others say it's two, or three (& in the same breath say “but it was worth powering through“ lol). I do want to read it, or at least attempt it.
Working my way slowly, but surely through both of these audiobooks. 👍🏽🎧

#two4tuesday @TheSpineView @MoonWitch94 Thanks for the tag! 😄💕📚
📚 Ooooh this is a tough one! 🤔 There are SO MANY female characters I love! Okay, I'm going with Nynaeve from the Wheel of Time series!
📚 I would absolutely LOVE to transport her to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe...mainly because I want to see her take out the White Witch! 😂🤣
Jumping back and forth between coloring and reading the tagged book this evening 🖍📖 It feels comforting to be reading a really long fantasy book again!
Wasn‘t my cup of tea. Which is weird since I typically enjoy fantasy.
I liked this book, but didn‘t love it. I don‘t think I like it enough to want to continue on with the series.

This one is the 1st book in the Wheel Of Time series & is one of the best out of the 14 books it encompasses. Setting up the magic system, the main players & the world that is one of the most intricate & involved out of all the fantasy series I‘ve read. I highly recommend reading this if that kind of story told well is what you‘re after.
The first book in The Wheel of Time series. This is one of the books I‘ve recommended the most.

@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
A book you‘d recommend whose title starts with the featured letter.
@TheAromaofBooks I belatedly decided to make a #bookspin list for August (but did not look at the numbers first!) I took a break from the challenge in July and I'm excited to jump back in this month 😊

I'm a day late! Oops! 🙊
☀️ I would love to live in England, preferably somewhere near the coast, like Dorset! I have always felt like I am British at heart!
☀️ I love the end of Return of the King, when Sam returns to the Shire after bidding farewell to Frodo!
☀️ The first Wheel of Time book, The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. After spending so much time with those characters they feel like family to me!
If you need another series to binge through HERE IT IS!
Finally starting this series.
great start to a great series. can‘t believe i hadn‘t heard of this series before…
Bk2 of April & #AwesomeApril #Readathon was done Wednesday. Another reread, this was a mix of both audio & print book. One of my fave comfort reads when I‘m not feeling great, the world building, characters & story is fantastic(and much better than the tv series!!)Yes there could‘ve been better female characterisation & has no lgbtq rep but it was written over 30yrs ago. Still recommend #bookspinbingo #seriesread2022
Forgot how great this was 30 years ago. 😂😂😂 loved the TV series too!
For publishing year 1990 I chose this title. Although this is really not my cuppa reading wise I wanted to branch out during this reading challenge and try new author. I can appreciate why people enjoy this author as this was a fantastical world and it is inhabited by a colorful cast of characters. Will I read the rest of the series, probably not but I did enjoy this title #19822022 #100readingchallenge @Librarybelle

Today's card is the Two of Cups which focuses on our past and how we got into our current situation.
For this prompt, I'm choosing a whole series; specifically the Wheel of Time series. Because of the things Rand got into in his past life (*cough* Lanfear *cough*) he has to deal with a lot of trouble in his current existence! 😁
It‘s been years since I last read this, but I decided to reread the whole series. I still enjoyed it, though maybe not as much as I did years ago.
This was the first book series I ever had the joy of experiencing. Not many books give me a sense of nostalgia like these books do. I remember forgotten memories as I once again turn the pages twenty years later.
To return to this series after so much time has passed is a strange sensation. It's almost like reading it for the first time. I have no clue what's going to happen, and yet it's all so familiar.
I know it‘ll be a couple more weeks before I can officially start this (once I finish all the books I‘ve started this month) but I‘m going to dive right into The Wheel of Time series! I was originally going to just watch the show, but I think I need to read the books first ☺️📚
While there may be nothing new under the sun, fantasy novels certainly seem to be called out frequently for being derivative of those that came before them.
Yes, Thee Eye of the World has some derivative elements. There is a “chosen one” and a quest trope, as well as other well-worn tropes sprinkled throughout.
If you hate those tropes, then this novel isn‘t for you.
However, if — like me — you actually like these tropes, consider picking it up.
#ItHadToBeYou Day 7: been reading the tagged book since late December, it is such a chunkster, so it is slow going.
Reading our #NYRBBookClub pick for March, and the other three for our #DecolonizeBookshelves2022 reading theme. I thought I better get my fantasy fix from a POC author, and what better author than Ken Liu, of course.
If you love epic fantasy like Lord of the Rings or The Sword of Shannara, you'll probably enjoy this book. It took about 400 pages for this book to start developing its own character, or for the characters to stop being as flat. The girl never stopped being flat, though. Overall, not a bad book but it just didn't stand out to me. #Fantasy #EpicFantasy #HerosJourney
This book is AMAZING! It's very confusing to start with because it jumps right into the story and the world the author has made but once you get roughly 100 pages in, you're hooked.
The only thing that I disliked a little bit was that the main character was a little bit dense sometimes.
Got the whole series for Christmas cause I felt the show had a lot of gaps, I'm gonna try to read it all by the first half of the year. This was a good start, very typical high fantasy book: a quest and reluctant heroes and a magical guide. I like there's more of a gender balance in this and I loved Moraine, though I might be biased cause I love Rosamund Pike. 4.5 ⭐
What a wonderful intricate fantasy! This book has everything! The world is deeply layered and rich, the characters are unique and interesting, and the plot kept me turning the pages late into the night. I don‘t know why it‘s taken me so long to start this series! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
2022 BOOK 3 ~ The Eye of the World - Robert Jordan

Today ends the #JoyousJanuary #readathon and I almost met all of my goals! Finishing the tagged book was a little too ambitious considering it's a ~30 hour audiobook.
Finish The Red Scrolls of Magic
✅Start The Eye of the World
🎧Finish The Eye of the World (70%)
✅Finish The Heart Break Bakery before it returns to the library
🎧Read a graphic novel or manga (70%)
Bonus goal:
✅read 3 national geographic articles
@Andrew65
I‘ve finally started reading the Wheel of Time series, and OMG it‘s so good! Why did I wait so long to read this?! Also I love a good #BookMap ❤️
I enjoyed the Amazon series so much, that I hunted the first two books down. One of those rare instances when the series seems more impressive than the book. But will still wait and see.
I did some audiobook crafting this evening while my husband was out of the house. I was collaging some old calendar and discarded book pages to make a backing for a slightly damaged poster that's too small for the frame I had. I'm not sure that I like how this improvised poster backing turned out. #AudioCrafting
Long overdue for a Wheel of Time re-read. My fav series!

Just finished book 1 - so heading over to the TV series to see how it holds up…… interesting casting, scenery is magnificent but everyone is at least 10 years older than I imagined! #booktoscreen
Its amazing! Intricately plotted, a hugely immersive world and a cast of characters - both fringe and central - that just leap off the page. Intersecting time lines, arduous journeys, fantastical quests, special powers, epic battles and a host of intelligent cats - it has it all. With so so many fab books in the world - im not sure I'll read the next 13 in the series - each at 800+ pages.....but I might!
