Pines | Blake Crouch
The international runaway bestseller is now a Major Television Event from executive producer M. Night Shyamalan, starring Matt Dillon and premiering May 14th on FOX. Secret service agent Ethan Burke arrives in Wayward Pines, Idaho, with a clear mission: locate and recover two federal agents who went missing in the bucolic town one month earlier. But within minutes of his arrival, Ethan is involved in a violent accident. He comes to in a hospital, with no ID, no cell phone, and no briefcase. The medical staff seems friendly enough, but something feels...off. As the days pass, Ethan's investigation into the disappearance of his colleagues turns up more questions than answers. Why can't he get any phone calls through to his wife and son in the outside world? Why doesn't anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what is the purpose of the electrified fences surrounding the town? Are they meant to keep the residents in? Or something else out? Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the world he thought he knew, from the man he thought he was, until he must face a horrifying fact--he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive. 2013 International Thriller Award Nominee

Another page turner from Blake Crouch that I enjoyed a lot. Same as in Dark Matter, he keeps finding twists and turns to keep it interesting and the action going. I didn't like everything in it but overall it's a good read, especially that I didn't guess the ending.

Hmm... this was just exhausting. Too many long, laborious scenes littered with incomplete sentences. It took so long to get to the point.

Blake Crouch never let's me down! I love his newer books and I've been meaning to grab some of his older work for so long and I'm glad I finally did.

This reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode....creepy, unsettling and completely unnerving

The Master of Mind F*ck has done it again (or already....this is an older book....whatever...you know what I mean 😂)

LibrarianRyan I really liked the first season of this tv show. The second season wasn't so bad, but left on a cliffhanger because they canceled the show. 3mo
FantasyChick @LibrarianRyan I haven't seen the show but thought I would like to try and find it. The cliffhanger ending doesn't appeal to me though....I hate it when shows get cancelled before they finish 😑 3mo

Not quite tired yet but getting there. This has been on my TBR for a long time so no time like the present to get started.

This isn't a long one so let's see how far I get before I drift off or my ereader dies. Whichever comes first 😂

Pines by Blake Crouch is a very engaging and fun read. Lots of suspense and sweating involved. I‘m excited to read the second book in the trilogy (Wayward Pines) so I guess that‘s got to be a good sign!

June of this year Blake Crouch released his new book Recursion. It was a total mind bender and I loooooved it. So I was totally stoked to find out he actually has a trilogy that revolves a small town in Idaho that is MUCH more than it seems.
I was even more stoked when I realized all 3 books are on Kindle Unlimited FOR FREE. 🤤#kindleunlimited #kindle #ereader #waywardpines

BookBumming Synopsis of the first book “Pines”
Wayward Pines, Idaho, is quintessential small-town America--or so it seems. Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in search of two missing federal agents, yet soon is facing much more than he bargained for. After a violent accident lands him in the hospital, Ethan comes to with no ID and no cell phone. The medical staff seems friendly enough, but sometimes feels...off.

BookBumming As days pass, Ethan's investigation into his colleagues' disappearance turns up more questions than answers

WHY CAN'T HE MAKE CONTACT WITH HIS FAMILY IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD? WHY DOESN'T ANYONE BELIEVE HE IS WHO HE SAYS HE IS? AND WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THE ELECTRIFIED FENCES ENCIRCLING THE TOWN? ARE THEY KEEPING THE RESIDENTS IN? OR SOMETHING ELSE OUT?

Well this wasn't what I expected! I thought this was something close to David Baldacci but it ended up more like The Maze Runner. I think this is a good book but the first part could learn something from The Maze Runner. I think it could have given the reader a bit more info and/or breathing breaks to make it more interesting right from the beginning. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series! 😊

GarthRanzz I‘ve actually done #6 in a way. I was such a fan of The Walking Dead when it started and no one was really reading it yet that I bought 25 copies of the first trade and mailed them all out to people. The only stipulation I had was that if they didn‘t like it they had to pass the book to someone they thought would. Not one got passed along except to encourage someone else to try it. 2y

Kaye Thank you for answering the questions. . I‘m not sure what book I‘d pass out . There are so many different types of books and people, it‘d be hard to pick one that everybody would like. 2y
RaimeyGallant What @ErinSueG said...what is tartan noir? 2y
SiriuslyWeasley @RaimeyGallant @ErinSueG Tartan noir is very twisted, grim crime/police procedural fiction written by Scottish authors. Stuart MacBride & Val McDermid are two excellent examples of this sub-genre. 2y

More than So-So, but not quite a Pick for me.
I did like the writing and the story — twists at every turn! I barely had time to adjust to the weirdness that more weirdness was thrown at me! Surprisingly, I liked that 😅 It definitely kept me guessing. The big reveal was a bit of a let-down to me, taking the story in a direction which is not quite my cup of tea. Also, a fair bit of graphic violence. Otherwise, good thriller — might recommend it.

emilyhaldi I thought this was a so-so too, but the cliff hanger left me wanting to read the next in the series! 2y
Elisa I didn‘t feel like it ended with a cliff-hanger, but I do see how one would get curious to see how things work out! 2y

This book is already driving me crazy. In a good way, I guess. I can feel Ethan‘s frustration and puzzlement at the weirdness and crazy amount of suckage (can‘t think of a better word for it, sorry) that he has experienced since he woke up. I mean it is positively maddening 😨😠😰😶

Questions beget delicious questions

The mystery of what is Wayward Pines keeps the pages turning without being cliche or an unfair tease. Information emerges at just the right time to quench the reader‘s thirst without being heavy handed. I I lost myself in this world and can‘t wait to read this again to see what wonderful gems I missed.

This was a mind-bending novel by a masterful writer. It was very fast-paced, and even though I was frustrated with Burke at times, you couldn't help but feel just as lost with him throughout. The ending caught me off guard and I'm still trying to figure out if I like the direction it went in, but I do plan to continue reading the trilogy, so I guess I will decide then.

I'm happy I was able to finish a third book for #24in48! This is the first book in Crouch's Wayward Pines trilogy. I loved reading about the town and how and why it was different. I didn't always love the action parts of the book, which started to feel redundant to me. The 300 pages flew by though and I'm anxious to see where the series goes.

Reggie lol I read this when I did my first 24in48 and my brain felt put into a pretzel trying to keep the time aspect of it all. I love Blake Crouch. 3y
