Anne's House of Dreams | L. M. Montgomery

I have a much better appreciation of this book than I did when I had first read it a long time ago. I love how Anne has matured and evolved over the series but still retains much of what made so many people love her from the original Green Gables book.

There was a lot about this novel that I enjoyed: the diverse collection of characters, the pokes at conventional ideas about women's work, and even the unusual combination of first and third-person narratives.

Teenage Writings | Jane Austen

It was so delightful to read the entire juvenilia canon by Austen! One can easily tell how she builds her craft, from silly stories to more well-structured story lines. My favorite was her take on British history, as told through her bias slant of the monarchs. Not exactly accurate, but it was incredibly fun to read!

She also #BreaksTheFourthWall a couple of times in her writings, so I could check that prompt off for #52BookClub25 !

January wrap up.

I re-read a few books. The Murderbot Diaries are my commute companion and I'm still not fed up with them. Alexis Hall is another comfort read.

I'm going outside the box for one of my reading challenge prompts this year. I'm working through a book of logic puzzles. I'm still reading, but I'm also checking for comprehension. I couldn't bring myself to write in the book in case I pass it along when I'm done, so I'm using one of my MANY little notebooks to good use. Who's doing something similar?

Which tag is everyone using? 😁

AnneCecilie I bought the first volume in this series and couldn‘t get past the first puzzle. Am I supposed to look at them as a sudoko puzzle? 6d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Librarybelle Thanks! Perhaps I'll join you on that hashtag. Now, if only I could get my butt in gear to actually review the few I've read.... 6d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @InkedBookworm13 I had every intention of picking up Volume 1, but it was out of stock at the local bookstores I was visiting, so I figured Volume 2 would be a fine place to start. Good luck with your puzzles, too! 6d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @mhillis It had been so far! A little break from just straight reading. 6d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @AnneCecilie In a way, yes. You'll need to use the descriptions and clues to determine which person had which object and where they had it. For the beginner puzzles, each 9 square box should have one checkmark indicating yes in each row & column. Some clues will eliminate a pairing, so you can use an X. Then, you use your deduction skills. I learned these as a kid, so I didn't need to look at the instructions, but they seem OK. 6d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @AnneCecilie If Ms X has the necklace, I'd ✅️ her box, then ❎️ out the other two suspects for the necklace. Other clues may eliminate an option, so you have to infer based on the other info provided. If you still have trouble, perhaps I can scan one of mine & email or arrange a Teams meeting to discuss it with you. The larger ones may prove more troublesome, but the beginner ones should be easier to catch into one you pick up how to do them. 6d

Witness in Death | Nora Roberts, J. D. Robb

I think this was the best in the series yet—aspects of Agatha Christie-esque mysteries are thrown into this one. Eve, Roarke, and thousands in the audience witness a murder on stage. But, it‘s not as clear cut as it seems. Eve also continues to battle her last, and elements of the investigation do not help. I love to see the characters developing! #InDeathLongReadalong

A good historical fiction novel that showcases the glamor of Hollywood and film along the French Riviera at the Grand Hotel, set against the backdrop of the start of WWII. There‘s romance and a thriller-esque thread woven into the storytelling. The list of who‘s who in Hollywood in 1939 is staggering, and the MC Annabel (who knows photography) mingles with them all (hence my choice for #BBRC #Adult #Paparazzi ).

Great #SundayBuddyRead choice!
