SciFi/Creature/Cosmic Horror. I didn't know anything going into this, other than it was suggested for a summer horror read. A low pick. War of the Worlds, meets Predator, meets Castaway. Very suspenseful.

Once the story gets going, which doesn‘t take long, this is one helluva ride. Take two people who have a chance meeting of sorts, whose lives are already on a destructive path, and put them in a life-or-death situation; throw in an awesome dog, because obviously dogs are awesome, and that‘s the basis of this story. My experience with this could have been better if I had liked the characters a touch more than I did🤔.
When I first read the description of the book, I wasn't that impressed, How can two people trapped on a beach be interesting enough for a whole book. Well, I was wrong, because this was a great survival story of two virtual strangers banding together to survive an apocalyptic event. This is an end of the world book unlike any other I have read. It was tense and exciting. I enjoyed this book.
I went into this book without any idea of the subject matter other than horror- but suffice it to say, this would be a good read for #TeamMonsterMash. I really enjoyed this one, and could identify with both the main characters, who both feel like hopeless screwups. Sometimes we just need real monsters to make us realize we aren't that bad after all. #TeamSlaughter #Scarathlon @Clwojick
5pts for the read, 15pt because of the photo prompt word!
My first #OminousOctober post- the prompt was black and it just so happens this is the book I started today, which also opens on October 1st! #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter @Clwojick @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
Beth is house sitting near the beach when her and Mike have a one night stand. The same night, meteors fall and nothing will ever be the same. They wake up to humanity under attack. They make their way to the beach where they get stranded and their circumstances Just. Keep. Getting. Worse. There‘s humor, there‘s suspense, there‘s evil vines, but the win here is how Jones makes you like and root for these deeply flawed and human characters. Pick!
Was listening to the Summer Horror Reads episode of The Books in the Freezer Podcast and this one came up in passing. It‘s really good so far.
Beth, a burnout trying to get back on track, is housesitting on the Oregon coast when she meets Mike, a man at the bottom of a pit of depression. They hook up and wake up to a world changed in bizarre and disturbing ways. And then, they get trapped on a beach with an assortment of bloodthirsty monsters.
I liked this a lot. I knew all the places they talked about and felt the characters were relatable/likeable. The creatures sounded cool/scary.
