Still my favourite Austen. I never reread but returning to this one after about 10 years has made me feel I should try rereading more often. Fanny annoys a lot of people but I love how steadfast and true to herself she is, she knows what she feels is right and never departs from it even when it would be easier to change for other people. I also find the whole supporting cast hilarious - Mrs Norris and Lady Bertram 😂 I need to rewatch the film

I‘m SO excited to reread this. I haven‘t opened it since I was 14 but it‘s always been my favourite Austen (unpopular opinion but I won‘t back down). I never reread books tbh but I want to make an effort to get into it when it‘s classic novels that I know have more to say to me than I grasped the first time.

AbigailDays I read this one while riding trains all over Europe! I love Austen's works. 2w
cosmicbutton I‘m not one for revisiting books, but I like your reasoning for doing so in this case. There are so many books that carry me away, that I miss so much nuance, so I might have to follow that advice! Also, Jane Austen is pretty much the best-another valid reason to reread. :D 1w

What a pleasant surprise to spot 4 friends while reading! 💕 I've given up on working out today, which is very disappointing as I won't meet my original #BFC weekly goal... But it did take a week that included injury, the YMCA closing for the holiday, an overnight visit from a friend, and a stomach bug to stop me reaching that goal. Instead I'll try to finish a book today before check-in! #BookFitnessChallenge #BFCr2 #BookNerdHerd @wanderinglynn

It's almost 11:30 AM, and I've managed some water and saltine crackers. Very bummed out to be feeling so poorly when I was so looking forward to a morning run, weights, and time for spiritual practice, but thankful that I can spare the time to rest in bed and read a good book. Hopefully this sickness will pass quickly! 🤞

Long, great day with my childhood best friend visiting! We hiked, we kayaked (which apparently doesn't count for Fitbit active minutes), we had a great time. 😊 Now she's back in South Carolina and I'm settled into bed with a good book! I plan on running in the morning and doing weights at the YMCA with my mom, but no long walks - I'll be rooting on the #LitsyWalkathon-ers from the sidelines! 🎉 #BookFitnessChallenge #BFC #BFCr2 #BookNerdHerd

Bedtime reading 💕 I'm reading too many books at once already but #MakeMeReadIt has given me an excuse to start one more! 😂 (Plus, this one is fun and light, unlike my other print and ebook reads at the moment!) #readathon

Scochrane26 This one is my least favorite Jane Austen, but they‘re all good. (edited) 3w
Caterina @Scochrane26 It's the only one I haven't read yet, which is why I decided to throw it into my MakeMeReadIt pile. I was surprised when it got so many votes! I thought it wasn't as beloved. The votes are in for the #MakeMeReadIt #Readathon! 🎉 I'll be starting Mansfield Park very soon! For the sets of ties, I'll decide when I get to them what order to read them in. I'm very excited about An Orchestra of Minorities, which is near the bottom of the list (thanks @Emilymdxn for voting for it 😘), so I'll try to at least read until I get to it! I'm moving to California on July 31 and not taking any books with me... Let's get reading!!

I continue to love this book as much as ever. No one creates characters or makes fun of them as gently as Austen. This is probably her most subtle book, and I‘m so glad I have the Bonnets at Dawn Facebook group to discuss it with me and make me think about it in new ways.

You #takethelongwayhome when you travel by horse and buggy, which is why Austen‘s novels always include months long visits with family and friends.

I‘d love to know what everyone‘s least favorite Austen is. Mine is S&S so it will be the next one of hers I reread I think. I‘m hoping it was just a timing issue and I love it the second time around.

I started this book in 2013 or maybe 2012? It makes much more sense now why I never finished it. Although miraculously I now can say I finished it! I picked it back up for the shop's book club and because of my reading system selection was to finish a book I had put down. I'm still amazed I finished reading this story. This has also taught me I no longer will be ashamed of not wholeheartedly loving Jane Austen's writing.

Seems fitting to spend Jane Austen‘s birthday reading this book. I saw a theater production of MP last night so it‘s interesting to see the differences in the stage adaptation. I needed to take a few notes at the beginning to get the family straight. Why doesn‘t Miss Ward have a first name? 🤔 And her married name of Mrs Norris keeps pulling me out of the story and into Harry Potter land. Thankfully Severus has been mentioned only once (so far🙃)

It's impossible not to enjoy Austen's wit and observations, but this went on way too long, and good god why even have a love story if it's gonna be like that? I felt for Fanny and would have liked it much better if she just kept silently (or loudly, if she found her voice) being more sensible than everyone else without a rushed and tidy resolution. But then I guess it wouldn't be Austen.

readordierachel @readinginthedark How interesting! I love how a book can give us such a different experience when read at a different time or in a different context. I've found that to be true for some books I had to read in school. Was there anything in particular that struck you the second time around? 6mo
readinginthedark I think the complexities of the characters and relationships just stood out to me so much more this time! Fanny, for instance, I could always just dismiss before as a bit too perfect and not very brave. But you see her struggles come out more when she sees Edmund stray from his own ideals and when she's sent away to stay with her family. She has to balance a lot between her personal feelings and her sense of familial duty--to two families, also. 6mo
readinginthedark Anyway, that helped me to reflect more on the other characters as well and appreciate Austen as I usually do. It's just not as quick or easy a read as her others, I think. 6mo

readinginthedark So...Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey are my least favorites...but they're still up there on my list, because Austen! Mansfield Park is often overlooked because Fanny is not as strong, pretty, outspoken, etc, etc as other Austen heroines, and the love story isn't very satisfying. But I've found a lot of really great stuff in there, reading it as an adult. Northanger Abbey is love/hate with people because it's so different from Austen's other... 10mo
readinginthedark ...books and it's kind of like a YA novel. Catherine is really naive and gets herself into unnecessary trouble. I used to let my frustration with her get in the way of enjoying the book as a whole, but since I've gotten past that, I've liked it a lot more. You really can't go wrong with any of them! Even her juvenalia and letters are fun to read! 10mo
readordierachel @readinginthedark Thanks for the insight! I def see what you mean about Mansfield. I'm about halfway through and I feel like I don't know Fanny at all, but I still think it's quite clever and funny. I'm really looking forward to Northanger, it sounds like a lot of fun actually! 10mo
