This year hasn't been the best for me so far, and its showing in my reading/writing habits--or lack of those habits lately. But when all else seems to fail, I can turn to my books for comfort 👍😊

Here are my #top6reads so far for 2019. A review for the tagged still to come--one of the most beautiful pieces of literature I've ever held in my hands 💙 Thanks @Cinfhen for the idea!

Fabulous magic realism/fantasy about an immortal crow and the lessons he has for humankind. Have loved Crowley from Engine Summer and Little, Big. He can do no wrong!

Dar Oakley is a crow and this is the story of his life. You could call it fantasy but it's a world you're familiar with. You could call it magical realism and you'd be right but mixed in are real details about the nature and habits of crows. It's actually a story about life and death and life after death and sometimes no death at all. The Audible was brilliantly narrated by the author. I loved this book. 4.5 ⭐️s

If you told me that master fantasist John Crowley had written a book about Keynesian economic theory or Germanic agriculture in the 1600s and it had a cover this cool I would probably buy it.

Luckily this book is about the life on an immortal crow named Dar Oakley so it was absolutely worth preordering on sight. #bookmail
