I alternately read and listened to Hidden Figures and thoroughly enjoyed them both. Not only does the book highlight the work women were contributing but it provides background info on the time period and the massive barriers they had to go though to achieve their goals. Both the movie and the book are worth consuming.

If energy is neither created nor destroyed, and if your brother was here with his, his humor, his kindness, his hopes, doesn't this mean that what he was still exists somewhere, even if it's not here? Doesn't it? .... "

Gripping and raw with characters that feel like real people, this book packs an emotional gut punch. The writing is sparse and draws you in with it's solid sense of place and the community it describes. I'm pretty confident this will be in my top 10 of 2018. Highly recommend!

I've been rummaging around my shelves and have finally come up with a book stack for #24in48. I'll be starting in the morning on my own and will have friends join me for the afternoon. The readathon is all I have planned for the weekend and I couldn't be happier. Yay books and snacks and blankets!

I really thought I was going to hate this book and I ended up devouring it in two days. It was frustrating, rage-inducing and heart-breaking. Every few pages had me ranting but I'm still glad I read it. While I'm confident that I won't ever see eye-to-eye with right leaning political groups, this book humanized the people of Louisiana for me, which is what it set out to do. This is going to make one hell of a good book club discussion.
